Braq Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 I need help as I'm having major trouble adding 2 new switchlinc 2-wire dimmers (RF only) - model 2474DWH (v1.0) to my ISY 99i. I tried everything I can think of, but cannot get ISY to finish adding them. The switchlincs are controlling the loads (ceiling lights) fine so the install is good. I tried adding them both with "new insteon device" and "start linking", but every time the progress bar quits abruptly after "writing 0 bytes to devices" and my ISY no longer sees any traffic come through so I have to cut the power to both the ISY and PLM (2413S) to get them working again. I have many other switchlincs/in-linelinc/appliancelinc/lamplinc dual band/fanlinc that I've been using for several months without any trouble and I just installed a few new keypadlincs that I was able to add to the ISY on the first try. Should I be doing something special for this to work? ISY and UI are v3.2.6. Here is the output from the event viewer (level 3). You can see the ISY is able to communicate with the device, but stops after "LNK-BGN". LeeG Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 Click Network to display summay of devices. Click Address column header to sort by Insteon Address. Look for 1E 62 A3
LeeG Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 Look at the ISY Error Log for something like Open failed for [/CONF/1E62A3.REC] or Init failed, etc
LeeG Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 The RF SwitchLinc did not complete the exchange with the PLM. See the message in red from a device add of an I2CS device. This message is missing in the posted trace. Suggest moving an Access Point closer to the RF SwitchLinc. Be sure not to lose phase coupling in the process. Braq Posted September 2, 2012 Author Posted September 2, 2012 Thanks. Power cycled the PLM and put 4 dual band lamplincs around the switchlinc and tried again. Same story. Here is the output from event viewer. Each time I do this I have to power cycle the ISY and PLM as the ISY is no longer able to communicate with the PLM. If I try to turn off/on a light it doesn't go through anymore, but after power cycling it works again. Feels like the PLM is not sending/receiving the final command and freezes somewhere in the process. LeeG Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 I am seeing an unusual response to the 02 64 command. In one case there is a 03 response, in another a 01 response. Note the 06 response in my trace entry which is the standard response from a PLM when the serial command is accepted. Is there any possibility the PLM is full, not being able to create a new link. The command sequence being executed is trying to establish a link between the new device and the ISY PLM. This is a requirement of I2CS devices before the PLM can create additional links or control/configure the new device. Braq Posted September 3, 2012 Author Posted September 3, 2012 LeeG, thanks again for your help. The count came up consistent as 26 links (count 38). I don't think this is the issue as I successfully added 2 new keypadlincs after trying to add the switchlincs.
Michel Kohanim Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Hi LeeG, thanks so very much for all your help and precise instructions. Hi Braq, as LeeG mentioned, the main issue is that the device is not responding to Link Begin. All I2CS devices require this method to link. The reason you can no longer talk to other devices is because the PLM is in Linking mode and will not get out of this mode for about 4 minutes or till ISY hears a Link Response. Quick questions: 1. Do you have any Baby Monitors around? 2. Do you have any thermostats around? With kind regards, Michel
Braq Posted September 3, 2012 Author Posted September 3, 2012 Michel, LeeG, I got it to work! I do indeed have a baby monitor (angelcare 927MHz) and a thermostat (Z-Wave 900 MHz, but far away), and I also recently installed a few Aeon lab multisensors (Z-Wave 900 MHz) which I assume are all causing interference. I also have an AT&T microcell (850 and 1900 MHz) in the same closet as my PLM. I turned all of them off, but it didn't help. I then took a closer look and at my lamplincs and by chance it seems they were all on the same phase. So I moved one around (using the method described in http://www.insteon.net/pdf/2443.pdf) and that did it. I was able to successfully add the 2 new switchlincs, and now it all works even with the other RF equipment on. Thank you both so much for your help! These 2 wire switchlincs are a life saver in our old house. Brian H Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Insteon is 915 MHz. ZWave is 908.42 MHz. You can look up the frequency used by each of your devices in the FCC Database. If you are curious. http://transition.fcc.gov/oet/ea/fccid/
Braq Posted September 3, 2012 Author Posted September 3, 2012 Thanks Brian. Are Insteon and ZWave close enough to cause interference?
Brian H Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Is the microcells power supply on the same circuit as the PLM? Some wall wart switching supplies can be a power line signal problem. I don't know if the ZWave and Insteon frequencies are too close to step on each other. Is the Aeon Labs unit always sending sensor data? If there is no ZWave transmissions when the Insteon Signals where being sent. Then I would think it could not be a problem.
Braq Posted September 3, 2012 Author Posted September 3, 2012 I tried adding a third switchlinc (less than 6 feet away from the other one and on the same circuit), but have the same problem again. It's replying back in the beginning, but not continuing after "link begin". I turned everything off again, but no luck. I will try again tomorrow morning, maybe there is a noisemaker on the line somewhere that was off by chance this morning when I was able to add the other ones. Brian, yes, the microcell's power supply is on the same circuit as the PLM. Don't have another filterlinc lying around unfortunately. With the 2 switchlincs I added this morning I've had no problem so doesn't look like the zwave sensors are interfering. I take out their batteries / remove power when I try to add the switchlincs.
