Having some problems

After loading 70+ Inseon devices and many sceens. The 99i seems like it is messed up. I did some back ups along the way but now it errors out right at the end of a back up. Could not create back up bad file/ Conf/131.und.

Also when I click on the program summery and program details tabs the nothing comes up in the tabs. It did before but not now after the back up error. I rebooted the 99i but the same remains. It will run and turn on/off lights fine I just cannot add or configure any programs.

I am thinking of restoring to factory defaults and then restoring from my "good" Backup.

If there is something else please let me know.

I have done that and rebooted my computer, I telneted into the 93I and I get this with a VE command:

Product ISY99i

App Insteon_UD99

Platform ISY-C-99

Version 1.0.0

Build Date 2007-12-17-22:37:34

Other Services:

- Programs Enabled

- IR Enabled

It seems to me maybe I need a firmware update?? I read the current is 2.6.2???

Also I dont know how to clear my Java Cache. I cleared my IE7 stuff.

I did a factory reset and this fixed everything. Although when I restore my backup that has all my links it fouled it up agian. I did another reset and now am re-adding everything again. (ug) it seems to be working good so far and I am testing and backing up after every group of Insteon devices.

I could of been some corrupt file or possibly a problem when I get as too many links or devices programmed in???? Not sure yet.

I got about 1/2 of my devices loaded and now it is giving me many communication errors, while making sceens they error out too. I am not sure what is going on. I am giving up for now after 2 days of messing arround with this thing. I am restoring everything from my house link desk top to get my family off my back. I hope it doesent fail.

It seems like after I get 30 or so devices loaded it starts to get flakey. I added another 10 devices and did a backup and it failed on the back up. Then the Tabs did not work again. I did a factory reset and reloaded my 10th back up and it was OK until I started loading new devices. While doing so I kept getting errors.

My PLM is a version 2.75

Very frustrated...

Just to confirm... You used option 1 to delete existing links when you added your devices to the ISY right? Reason I ask is you say things get messed up when you factory reset your devices and then restore the links. If you told the ISY to retain Houselinc information when you added the devices then any incompatible data would have gotten added to the ISY database and that data will always get put back into your Insteon devices when you do a restore.

Maybe that is not the issue you are having but the symptoms sound like what would happen if HouseLinc data was retained in your Insteon modules.

Yes I did choose option 1 while adding devices. Funny thing though some of the devices must not of been cleared because after they were added but not assigned to a sceen they would still work as a virtual 3 way as they were programmed as before. So then I did go through and do a factory reset on the individule devices and after reloading them I still got comm problems and such.

Other that these few devices all the factory resets were to the 99i to bring the program tabs back.

Does anyone have more than 30 or 40 devices? I have 85 and want to install a few more. I was hoping for a controller that can handle my whole house. I have a disability and am mostly in a wheel chair and I wanted to do my whole house so things would be easier for me. Up until now everything was done manually with keypad links and such. I was looking for a device that I could program timers and such.

raypanic,

I am so very sorry for the issues you've been experiencing. I suspect that you had a corrupt file (node 131) which should never happen. I am glad that you have your latest backup as we are going to fix this problem using manual intervention (telnet). Please do be kind enough to create a problem ticket (http://www.universal-devices.com/contact.htm) and a good time to call you on Sunday the 9th after 1:00 PM PST. I shall personally call you and fix this issue.

Before the call, please do be kind enough to restore your ISY using your last good backup.

Again, please accept my apologies,

With kind regards,

Michel

I used the link calculator and it comes up with 619 links. in the calculator it shows the max for the PLM is 417.

Now what else can I do?

raypanic,

I wouldn't worry about it since, based on your date of purchase, I assume you have the latest PLM (v 2.75) which supports 2000+ links. All you have to do is to verify the label on your PLM.

Even if you have an older version of the PLM, you should still be able to backup your configuration unless there's something wrong. I already sent you an email with the possible next steps.

With kind regards,

Michel

Michel took care of all my issues and the 99i is working fine now. UDI has gone above and beyond with my issues. They even called me on Sunday to diagnose my problems.

GREAT JOB!!!

Ray,

Thanks to you we found two very important bugs which are going to be in the next drop:

1. Backup would fail in less than optimal network conditions

2. Programs Details would crash if the Address of any Node was less than 8 characters long

Thank you so very much! I do appreciate all your help, support, and patience.
