Is there any consequence to having another Insteon device in-line with my PLM. It's not piggy backed in the sense that their plugged into each other (they're separated by a 3ft cord) but whatever the PLM sends out over the powerline must "go through" an iMeter Solo before reaching the main elec panel. Would I get better/same/worse communication in a different configuration?

I presently have one of the insteon LED bulbs in my daughters bedroom. She has a habit of falling asleep with the light on. I programed it to shut the lamp off at 11:00 pm, and turn on again at 7:00am the following day. If she happens to shut the lamp off with the lamp switch before 11:00, then the isy has a communication issue, but the bulb stays in the on position, and she can then turn it on when she wakes in the morning. An issue arose last night where the light would not turn on with the lamp switch, and was in the off position as shown in the isy. I couldn't turn it on from the isy. I assume the isy would not communicate with it until the next query at 3:00 am. I th…

I was checking device links tables using a KPL to generate traffic in an attempt to troubleshoot an intermittent comm trouble spot in my kitchen area. The area comm can vary from hops left 2 down to 0 depending on the time of day or the alignment of moon and sun - not sure what exactly. For fun I did a compare while I was there and it showed a couple of record mismatches. I went through and checked other KPLs and found only one that didn't have record mismatches. For the mismatches I checked, they were not insteon addresses I could find under My Lighting, i.e. not devices on my network, according to ISY anyway. I religiously follow the prime directive and link all my…

Hi, I recently converted my Thermostat over to an Insteon thermostat and got it all set up and working with an ISY-994i. Then, I added a wireless Thermostat 2441ZTH. I can't seem to figure out how to control the wired thermostat with the wireless via the ISY. Is it possible yet? How do I switch which controller is master via the ISY? Thanks, Chris

I have a program that sets the On Levels for switches twice a day - lower at night. Every switch (or button) I want to adjust has a line in the program as follows: for a load carrying switch: In Scene 'Loads/Switch1' Set 'Loads/Switch1' 75% (On Level) or for a switch that doesn't carry the load: In Scene 'LEDs/KPL2(Switch1)' Set 'Loads/Switch1' 75% (On Level) Everything is fine - except the dropdown list is missing two load switches that are in my system. When trying to add another line to the program, "Adjust Scene"..."In Scene"...dropdown --- the switches aren't anywhere on that list. Any ideas on why - and what to do about it? Is there a way to make th…

Here is what I would like to do: if its between sunrise and sunset and the kitchen motion sensor is violated and the kitchen light is not on then turn the kitchen counter lights on for 2 minutes. if the kitchen light is turned on and the kitchen counter lights is on then turn the kitchen counter lights off. Does someone have an example of how to do this. Thanks Bob Moore

Hi, I purchased a 2441th Insteon thermostat. Have it all setup properly and working well with ISY. I was looking into remote sensor options and see the recommendation is getting an Insteon wireless thermostat and a waterproof temp sensor. From what I am reading there appears to be issues with the wireless thermostats going to sleep and not waking up properly. My question is, are there any known ways to pass data to the 2441th in the remote sensor field(s)? Have several remote devices that read temp/humidty pushing info into HomeSeer. So just wondering if that info could be pushed to the thermostat to display outdoor temp on there. Thanks for any infos!

Hi I had a ISY26 for many years and I am now upgrading to ISY994i to support new insteon devices (dual band, micro). Since my old PLM (2412s) is supported by the ISY994i, I did not buy a new one. But ISY994i boot in save mode because it cannot communicate with the PLM. When I plug back my ISY26, the PLM is working fine. PLM V61 reported by ISY26. Somebody can help me? Thanks you Jonathan

The "Darkness Sensitivity" of an Insteon Motion Sensor (2842-222) can be set via that device's "Set Options" dialog of the ISY's Admin Console (when the sensor is in linking mode, of course). The range of settings is from 0 to 255. I understand that the Darkness Sensitivity setting determines just how dark it must be in order for the sensor to be in "night" mode -- the lower the setting, the darker it must be. At a setting of "0" the sensor will always be in "day" mode ("OFF"), while a setting of "255" will cause the sensor to always be in "night" mode ("ON"). Question: Does anyone know if the Darkness Sensitivity range is linear? In other words, does "64" represe…

I'm struggling with the program logic for the ISY and spend a lot of time with trial and error when it comes to more complex functions. Is there a software solution for the less technically inclined? I would prefer something that will download to the unit so the computer does not have to run all the time. When I was using x10 there was a program that fit this description. Alternately, is there a set of pre-written programs that could be copied that would satisfy most standard functions, like thermostat setbacks, lighting on, dim, off times, etc? I have looked through the forum and have not found a collection of these in one place. I am otherwise very happy with the ISY wi…

Good day all, newbie to the forum, and to UDI / Insteon. I have an ISY994i running 3.2.6 and a 2487S V4.1. If I turn a scene off or on using the button on the KPL...the LED indicator turns on (or off) as the case may be. However, if I control as a scene through the ISY, the LED indicator never changes...so I cannot tell, looking at the KPL if a scene is off or on. Is there any way to have the indicator work, even if controlled through a scene? (ON when the scene is on...OFF when the scene is off?) Thanks, John

I have my house set to go on "vacation" mode when none of our Motion Sensors are tripped for 12 hours. Today, for the third or fourth time, despite us being home, my house goes to "vacation" mode and I realize that my ISY has no idea what is going on in the house. My solution (each time) has been to do a "Restore PLM" and this fixes the problem. It seems as though my PLM is "forgetting" everything. When this first happened about six months ago, I replaced my PLM and it has happened two or three times since I replaced it. I tend to want to blame my ISY for this. Any ideas as to what may be causing this or how I can sort it out?

I've recently built up a setup in my house during a kitchen remodel with a few Keypadlincs (2486DWH8), some Togglelincs (2466DW), and an ISY-994i PRO. I'm trying to integrate now a 2842-222 Insteon motion sensor. I had it in my kitchen, where it was working well, but then moved it to an entry hall which is farther away from the ISY. It seems like the RF signal is not making it to the ISY (which is a bit shocking; it's not a big house by any means). I've heard mention that in order to get the RF signal repeated properly, you want dual-band devices. I guess the above units are NOT dual band (I'd assumed they were). What's the cheapest way to add a dual-ban…

Ok I have a situation where I have an Outletlinc that turns off power to my TV when I am not at the house. In addition I want to put a SynchroLinc into the mix (TV into SyncroLinc and Syncrolinc into controlled outlet of the Outletlinc). The goal is to save power when I am not there but still get SyncroLinc events when I am there. My concern is that while I am gone the SyncroLinc will cause 'can not communicate' errors in the console when the startup or nightly query runs. Is there a way to tag a device as 'dont warn on this' since I know failure to communicate here will be common when I am not home. If I disable a device I presumed I couldn't query it, but wou…

Let's say I have two scenes, each containing the same dimmer switch and nothing else (so the ISY is the controller). Can the ramp rate in one of them be 0.3sec and in the other 30 seconds? Basically there are times when I want the light to be turned off with a long ramp rate but turned on with a short one but with this setup I seem to be getting unpredictable results. Do I need to make it one scene only and use adjust scene commands to swap between the on/off ramp rates? To be clear, I'm talking about the light being controlled via programs, not the physical switch. Basically, I have some motion sensors that are used in programs where after a certain period of ina…

With a little effort and a Unix-Like OS, I've come up with a simple solution for Text-to-Speech without relying on going out to an Internet website every time. You'll need the Networking Module and the following FREE software, installed on some sort of Unix machine (one that is always up, I use a VM): [*:17f7atcm] espeak [*:17f7atcm]sox [*:17f7atcm]mplayer (or madplayer, or any other MP3 player) [*:17f7atcm]Perl (usually built in) [*:17f7atcm]rtunes (if you want to use Airplay, only on OpenBSD) The attached script uses the above tools to run a listener on UDP/15157 on your Unix box. With the UDI Networkinh module, you can create a UDP resource, use the IP …

I thought I was finally over the "hump" in fully understanding this but it turns out that's not the case. I think my issue is understanding how various actions trigger or don't trigger control and status. These are my questions: 1) Which of the following will trigger an "if switched" condition to trigger? a) physically pressing a switchlinc or load button on a KPL? physically pressing a non-load button on a KPL? c) a program turning the light on or off d) a program turning a scene on which the light is a member of e) a linked sensor or KPL button turning the light on via a scene which both are members of 2) Which of the above scenarios wi…

In the Admin Console, why do some device names appear in Italics, while others are non-Italic? Periodically a device name format changes from Italic to Non-Italic depending on where you're clicking within the Admin Console. Why? Sometimes a device name will be Italic within the ISY folder, but the same device will be Non-Italic when listed within a scene. Why? Thanks

I have 16 thermostats installed (Venstar 1 day thermostats connecting to a ISY994i) they control the electric baseboard heaters throughout the house. I setup two scenes, one for turning them on when I am coming to the house and one for turning them off when I leave the house. When I trigger the scene the thermostats in the admin console will all show the setpoint as having been changed but when I right click and query the thermostat (or go over to the thermostat and look at it) the setpoint never changed. I ended up creating a program that will set the mode of all the thermostats to Heat and then setpoint to every thermostat to what I want it to be. When I right c…

Am stumped (again) by an IO Linc that's going on unexpectedly and that ISY doesn't even see going on. I push button 6 on KPL 20.43.49 to turn off a scene that is supposed to turn off IOLinc 15.B9.70 and IO Linc 1F.50.CA as well as button 6, 7 and 8 on itself (the KPL) Here's the event viewer when I turn the scene off using either the admin console or the KPL button (same exact thing happens every time - have done it about 10 times now trying to figure this out myself): Sat 01/19/2013 01:08:44 PM : [iNST-TX-I1 ] 02 62 00 00 1B CF 13 00 Sat 01/19/2013 01:08:45 PM : [iNST-ACK ] 02 62 00.00.1B CF 13 00 06 LTOFFRR(00) Sat 01/19/2013 01:08:45 PM : [ …

I'm using an I/O Linc and an ELK-930 to detect when someone presses the doorbell. I have a program that runs when the button is pressed. I would like to only run the program once if someone presses the button 3 or 4 times in a row. Then after 5 minutes or so it would reset and recognize the next time someone presses the button. The simple program that I have now runs every time the button is pushed, even if the button is pushed several times back-to-back. I couldn't think of a way to use variables to solve this issue. Any ideas? Thanks.
