  1. I’ve been an Insteon and ISY user for 13 years so I’m no stranger to the technology. What I am a stranger to is polyglot as I haven’t had the need to go in that direction yet. Up until the present, I’ve used Insteon thermostats. They are very basic and if we seen a surge in power, it would definitely fry the unit. While it was a no frills unit, it integrates very well with the ISY and using geo fencing or motion from elk for example, it could do just about anything any other stat could do. My question is we are building a new home. While the Insteon stat is functional, it’s not as pretty as the WiFi versions. My question is how well do these new WiFi versions integrate with the ISY through polyglot? Is there a noticeable lag? Any thoughts?
  2. I hate to hijack this post but I’m not nearly as active as I used to be. 10 years ago, Somfy shades were the way to go. I’m building a house and I’m thinking about going with motorized wired shades, is Somfy still the big player, or is there a less expensive yet good quality item that can work with the ISY?

If your lights are getting dim at the end of the strip, it’s more likely due to the size of the power supply. Take a look at the current capacity of the one you have and get one that’s bigger as they are generally inexpensive. What i I did in my home to reduce the number of power supplies, I ran an independent wire run for each strip of led lights to a common location where there, I used one 12v 5 amp power supply controlled by a outletlinc. Works great Good luck.

Thanks for your input guys. For the short term, I'm going to stick with my Insteon thermostat and try the Zwave module which leads me into a couple questions. KeviNH, I have seen the Trane color stat but I believe it was zwave that only worked on the proprietary Nexia bridge. As far as the Honeywell color stat, I have yet to see one. If you do happen to know which model, please post on this thread. Also, I recall back about 8-10 years ago or so, Steve Lee was still with Smarthome Pro and he sent me a new driver that was never officially released that would give the Elk the ability to send and receive temperature feedback from the ISY. Again, this is prior to the Elk module. This would be useful for anyone with a Elk Navigator. Sadly though, I never proceeded with it. Does anyone recall this driver or better yet have tried it?

I'm a fan of things that just work and work well. I use the Insteon thermostat because it integrates well with the ISY. A lot of users have been using zwave for better variety but when it comes to just plain aesthetics, I have yet to see a zwave thermostat with even a color screen that's compatible with the ISY. I'm really not interested in thermostats that are cloud based that can't communicate directly to the ISY or ELK directly. So when I recently walked through the thermostat section at of all places Home Depot, I found some of the coolest looking "WIFI" thermostats but of course none were zwave or insteon compatible. Has anyone been able to easily and more importantly reliably integrate one of the newer thermostats?
  6. Do you have an Elk alarm system. If so, you could use one of the one inputs for feedback. Then you could keep the plm where it is but move the ISY power supply to the UPS.
  7. Those were my thoughts as well. I've experienced similar issues with the I/O linc as far as unexpected behavior. With the reliability of the M1, I'm looking forward to making the switch.
  8. While I'm sure most of us use the Insteon I/O for garage status and control, has anyone used the Elk M1 as one for an interface. On an M1 board, output 3 is an available dry contact that could be used and I like the idea of eliminating an I/O linc for more reliability. Thanks.
  9. So I had a similar issue where all of my led lights connected to any Insteon switch would flicker when my home was powered by a portable 8k watt generator. I am now looking to purchase a standby backup generator and it's important to me that I do not experience a similar issue. Does anyone have a generac, cummins, kohler, or Briggs standby generator? Any flickering issues? Thanks
  10. Since the Isy and Elk can control it, will I also see the temperature off of mobilinc similar to an Insteon thermostat?
  11. I recommend that you try a different method. Most furnaces 15 years old and newer have a EAC (electronic air cleaner) set of contacts on the board. Anytime the furnace blower is on, EAC contacts are energized with 110v. Get yourself a $20 relay w/ 110v coil and wire the coil to the EAC terminal screws. Then wire your relay accordingly with separate power with enough capacity to run the blower.

My Elk module has always worked with no issues until i accidentally cycled power to my router. Doing that changed my IP address of the XEP but no big deal, I connected to the admin console, refreshed typology and performed a save. That restored the ELK plugin on mobilinc and I am now able to control my alarm as usual. The issue is in the ADMIN console, there is no ELK controls such as arm/disarm on the top of the screen under the tool bar. But obviously its communicating because I am able to control it from mobilinc which uses the ISY as a bridge to the elk. Any thoughts?

Now there is this link that explains the event viewer in wiki: http://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=ISY-99i/ISY-26_INSTEON:Using_the_Event_Viewer But it doesn't show the definitions such as LTMCON (DOWN) LTOFFRR (00) LTONNRR (00) Thanks

I have a problem with all the devices in a scene not displaying the correct status. I have a program that when a specific button on a keypad is pressed, it turns on 4 banks of hallway lights. Then I have a wait statement for X minutes, and then shut all the lights off. Here is my problem, The lights come on when I press the button, then shut off after X minutes. But, in the ADMIN console, the correct status for that entire scene isn't displayed. Instead of off, it shows they are ALL on. In addition, a couple switches are still on (these switches aren't connected to a load, 2007 switches). Lastly, the button I first pressed on the keypad doesn't turn off either (Yes, the button is set to a scene to turn off, part of my housekeeping folder). My other scenes work just fine, which I think rules out the PLM. I do notice that all the devices I am having issues with are older devices, maybe back from 2007. Not sure if that could be it but I am just throwing it out there. Any thoughts?
  15. While looking at the Smarthome forum, someone mentioned that the new nest thermostat is compatible with the hub. Any chance we can see this supported in the near future?
  16. From my experience, I've learned that telling people about home automation doesn't always get their full excitement or attention. Being a electrical contractor, I decided I would have better luck making a video explaining some of the features that are possible. None of this would be possible without the help of the Michel Kohanim and the Universal Devices team. I hope this video can be of help to people that are wondering what exactly their system is capable of. Thanks also to Wes the creator of Mobilinc for creating an outstanding interface.
  17. How long will this special promotion be available for?
  18. So has anyone ever found out what the default settings for Off/On levels? I've played with the settings on one keypad and I would like to put it back to default to match other keypads without having to delete and reprogram. Thanks

In addition to the standard topology the ISY offers for devices and scenes, is there a option for programs? It would be nice to have a hard copy of all my programs instead of just a file that I can import/export.
  20. Just tried upgrading and i am having a couple problems. 1) When trying to backup my ISY, I receive an error - "Could not create a zip file." 2)When I try the manual upgrade without backing up, I get an error "Socket Open Failed java.net.sockettimeoutexception" Any suggestions. Also, even after Michel reactivated my Elk module because I installed it before upgrading, the ISY is very sluggish when I am in the Security section. Is anyone having these issues. Is the ISY as responsive in the Security section as it is everywhere else? Thanks
  21. Have you looked and verified the exact amp draw of the dishwasher (it should be labeled on the dishwasher or you can look it up online with the model #). From my experience, most dishwashers are installed on a seperate 15 amp circuit while only using 8-11 amps. If indeed you do require a 20 amp circuit, you can buy an inexpensive 20 amp contactor & use a standard insteon relay switchlinc to control when the relay comes on/off.

My ISY-99 does not show the "Current State" of any of my devices. I have tried to reboot the ISY and query all to no avail. If I turn on one of my devices, it responds correctly but the ISY doesn't update the status. What to do guys?
  23. Are these the only ways to now log on? I had a 99i Administrative Console icon in my Start Menu that now does not work? I get a java error saying unable to launch application. If I use the methods above, they work fine. Any ideas how to resolve that issue? Thanks.
  24. Unrelated topic: Can you have seperate scenes or seperate programs controlling the same lights but at different ramp rates or different on levels?
