  1. While I'm sure most of us use the Insteon I/O for garage status and control, has anyone used the Elk M1 as one for an interface. On an M1 board, output 3 is an available dry contact that could be used and I like the idea of eliminating an I/O linc for more reliability. Thanks.
  2. So I had a similar issue where all of my led lights connected to any Insteon switch would flicker when my home was powered by a portable 8k watt generator. I am now looking to purchase a standby backup generator and it's important to me that I do not experience a similar issue. Does anyone have a generac, cummins, kohler, or Briggs standby generator? Any flickering issues? Thanks
  3. Since the Isy and Elk can control it, will I also see the temperature off of mobilinc similar to an Insteon thermostat?
  4. I recommend that you try a different method. Most furnaces 15 years old and newer have a EAC (electronic air cleaner) set of contacts on the board. Anytime the furnace blower is on, EAC contacts are energized with 110v. Get yourself a $20 relay w/ 110v coil and wire the coil to the EAC terminal screws. Then wire your relay accordingly with separate power with enough capacity to run the blower.

    Elk Module

My Elk module has always worked with no issues until i accidentally cycled power to my router. Doing that changed my IP address of the XEP but no big deal, I connected to the admin console, refreshed typology and performed a save. That restored the ELK plugin on mobilinc and I am now able to control my alarm as usual. The issue is in the ADMIN console, there is no ELK controls such as arm/disarm on the top of the screen under the tool bar. But obviously its communicating because I am able to control it from mobilinc which uses the ISY as a bridge to the elk. Any thoughts?
  6. Now there is this link that explains the event viewer in wiki: http://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=ISY-99i/ISY-26_INSTEON:Using_the_Event_Viewer But it doesn't show the definitions such as LTMCON (DOWN) LTOFFRR (00) LTONNRR (00) Thanks
  7. I have a problem with all the devices in a scene not displaying the correct status. I have a program that when a specific button on a keypad is pressed, it turns on 4 banks of hallway lights. Then I have a wait statement for X minutes, and then shut all the lights off. Here is my problem, The lights come on when I press the button, then shut off after X minutes. But, in the ADMIN console, the correct status for that entire scene isn't displayed. Instead of off, it shows they are ALL on. In addition, a couple switches are still on (these switches aren't connected to a load, 2007 switches). Lastly, the button I first pressed on the keypad doesn't turn off either (Yes, the button is set to a scene to turn off, part of my housekeeping folder). My other scenes work just fine, which I think rules out the PLM. I do notice that all the devices I am having issues with are older devices, maybe back from 2007. Not sure if that could be it but I am just throwing it out there. Any thoughts?
  8. While looking at the Smarthome forum, someone mentioned that the new nest thermostat is compatible with the hub. Any chance we can see this supported in the near future?
  9. From my experience, I've learned that telling people about home automation doesn't always get their full excitement or attention. Being a electrical contractor, I decided I would have better luck making a video explaining some of the features that are possible. None of this would be possible without the help of the Michel Kohanim and the Universal Devices team. I hope this video can be of help to people that are wondering what exactly their system is capable of. Thanks also to Wes the creator of Mobilinc for creating an outstanding interface.
  10. How long will this special promotion be available for?
  11. So has anyone ever found out what the default settings for Off/On levels? I've played with the settings on one keypad and I would like to put it back to default to match other keypads without having to delete and reprogram. Thanks

    Program Topology

In addition to the standard topology the ISY offers for devices and scenes, is there a option for programs? It would be nice to have a hard copy of all my programs instead of just a file that I can import/export.
  13. Just tried upgrading and i am having a couple problems. 1) When trying to backup my ISY, I receive an error - "Could not create a zip file." 2)When I try the manual upgrade without backing up, I get an error "Socket Open Failed java.net.sockettimeoutexception" Any suggestions. Also, even after Michel reactivated my Elk module because I installed it before upgrading, the ISY is very sluggish when I am in the Security section. Is anyone having these issues. Is the ISY as responsive in the Security section as it is everywhere else? Thanks
  14. Have you looked and verified the exact amp draw of the dishwasher (it should be labeled on the dishwasher or you can look it up online with the model #). From my experience, most dishwashers are installed on a seperate 15 amp circuit while only using 8-11 amps. If indeed you do require a 20 amp circuit, you can buy an inexpensive 20 amp contactor & use a standard insteon relay switchlinc to control when the relay comes on/off.

    No Current State

My ISY-99 does not show the "Current State" of any of my devices. I have tried to reboot the ISY and query all to no avail. If I turn on one of my devices, it responds correctly but the ISY doesn't update the status. What to do guys?
  16. Are these the only ways to now log on? I had a 99i Administrative Console icon in my Start Menu that now does not work? I get a java error saying unable to launch application. If I use the methods above, they work fine. Any ideas how to resolve that issue? Thanks.
  17. Unrelated topic: Can you have seperate scenes or seperate programs controlling the same lights but at different ramp rates or different on levels?
  18. I have a sump pump in my basement that is being monitored by Insteon. Using a $3 float switch from ebay, a standard i/o linc, and a stand off to mount the float switch to the PVC pipe for the sump pump, I am able to send an email/text notification when water hits a predetermined level. It works like a champ and everything cost around $50. What I'm trying to work on now is find an inexpensive water moisture detector that will sense any type of leak. Does anyone have any suggestions?
  19. If I have a device set to a be a responder and decide I want to make it a controller, or visa versa, can that be modified? Or do I have the delete the Scene and add it again? Thanks
  20. Yes I manually linked it to a keypad button. It has always worked without an issue. After I manually linked them, I had the ISY crawl for my links. Its worth a try to use the RED wire. Afterwards, I'm going to delete them from the ISY and use the ISY to program it. When you restore all your devices, does it wipe out the memory & rewrite the scene over again?
  21. Well my Insteon system is 99% reliable. I've been very paticular about everything I have done so far. You bring up a good point about incorrectly wiring it. I wired my garage door i/o linc via directions from Smarthome and manually linked it. I did not use the Red wire as states in these directions. This probably is the reason why.
  22. Why is it that everytime the Query all program runs, it changes the state of my garage door sensor from OFF to ON? Even if I manually query just the Garage door sensor when its off and when it is physically off, it still changes to show that its on.
  23. I was reading in a Smarthome forum that it is recommended to use Houselinc 2 to manage links, and ISY to create scenes. So I actually have them both hooked up but only use houselinc to look at links. Problem is, its causing these weird things to happen with my ISY. So I eliminated the houselinc all together and ISY is working like a champ. So, does anyone use this combination without causing problems? If so, how do they use them? Thanks
  24. I think I just found something called Paren Lines that answeres my own question.
