  1. Smarthome is making a huge mistake by not supporting and/or working with Universal Devices.
  2. This is scary. I have a lot of customer homes with ISY and serial PLMs. If I have a failure, I will be in real trouble. I will now try to source them out Ebay and such. Scary.
  3. Caseta does allow 74 devices for their hub. You can use multiple hubs and or program the pico remote point to point since they do not need to be in the router.
  4. Insteon or Lutron Caseta would be his realistic options. I would avoid WIFI switch and use wired mesh routers if he can.
  5. So have you decided to buy more Insteon?
  6. Most people are Insteon users so we want to know what is going on. P.S. I am impressed with the 80+ Z-wave devices. I have issues trying to get it up that high.
  7. Lutron stuff does work through almost anything. I do not think I ever had an issue. Insteon also does this by using the power lines when RF is unavailable. No one can beat Lutron's RF it is best in the industry period.
  8. You can also link a switch to lamp module.
  9. Control 4 (C4) is a fancy high end lighting system. I do not like it at all but many high end homes have it. It uses its own version of Zigbee. https://www.control4.com/solutions/smart-lighting/
  10. You are mistaken about Caseta; you can link a wall switch or a pico remote to a lamp module. You can do it through the hub or point to point. The pico remotes can be mounted in electrical boxes and look just like a switch. You can also buy different colors and that is use for all ON/OFF applications. They also have blinds that work nicely with the remote. My main objection is the lack of serious programming and it is not instant on and off.....though the closest to Insteon.
  11. That is sad.
  12. They had quality issues and think they resolved them as far as I can tell. A new Insteon switch has lasted a lot longer than the old ones.
  13. If this is a rebranding of Insteon they will want sell to their base. Most of their base uses the ISY. They would be stupid not to give you guys the information. I let them know and hopefully they will listen.
  14. I just recommended to Smartlabs to give the information to Universal Devices. Hopefully someone will listen.
  15. I have done a few homes entirely with Caseta. Very reliable and I do not think I have ever had a switch failure. Also they do not seem to have distance limitations that I have found with Z-Wave. I do agree that RadioRA does not feel premium and it is just way to expensive for what you get so I never did an install with it. To me it is nothing more then Caseta 3 times the price. Where I like Insteon over Caseta is the instant on and off and where I like the ISY over other hubs is that it does not need an email account to work like cloud solutions......people do sell their houses and it needs to work for the new owner right out of the box.
  16. I have no idea how well it will work. I will try it and see. I suspect it is a fancy version of the existing hub. I eventually try everything.
  17. I do wish someone at SmartLabs had some brains and sent the information to Universal Devices considering that they have supported Insteon from well over a decade.
  18. As stated it is definitely Smartlabs that is making the devices. It has not stopped me from pre-ordering and I will use the new Hub if I have to.
  19. I just preordered them from Nokia. I know Smartlabs make them but Nokia is selling them right now. I will try their hub if the ISY does not work but I suspect they will support it fast because there is not much of a stretch between these devices and other Insteon devices. I think the switch and dimmer might work out of the box but the 4 switch (Kepadlinc) style switch will not.
  20. I did one Crestron install and I regret it. I have installed Lutron Caseta and wired Lutron Homeworks (wired). Though I have avoided RadioRA because it is Caseta with triple the price. I do like both of those systems but their control hubs are much more limited than the ISY. Nokia switches are made by Smartlabs (the owner of Insteon) so they will be the same as the other SmartLab switches but with nice Nokia designs. I have used insteon in most of the homes and it has been quite successful. The customers seem to like the instant on/off more than anything else. The look is slightly dated so I am excited about the new Nokia look; which is very modern.
  21. You have made the point exactly. If I need to install a reliable home automation system in a high end house with a user that does not understand anything but pressing a button the last thing on earth I would do would be to hack a bunch of WIFI devices that may or may not kill his WIFI system.
  22. WIFI devices are a bit of a joke. They are almost all Tuya based and they do things like disappear and need to be reinstalled. They kill WIFI networks if you have too many of them. They are also cloud dependent which also adds to the reliability issue.
  23. I have to say that I am not giving up on Insteon. I build very expensive houses with home automation and the biggest problem that I have with Z-wave and Zigbee is that the popcorn affect (one light off at a time). The number one use of a lighting system for "normal people" is to turn all the lights off. I have had many negative comments about the popcorn affect when I used other products. Nokia is now going to make beautiful Insteon devices and I will start installing them in these homes. The only other product that comes close is the Lutron Caseta system but it does have a much more minor popcorn affect. Here is a link to the new Nokia Insteon devices; they look really high end. https://nokia.smartlabsinc.com/collections/nokia
  24. I will check it out.
  25. That is a shame.
