Thanks for all of the help and I will be posting more stuff as we go along. Clarence

I will be there and look forward to meeting all of you. By the way I sent the other ISY device back to you and I hope that you received it.

So, if I need to see my ISY I can always use the external address. Does this address change if the DHCP Address changes? If it is the same at all times, then I don't need to worry about a DHCP Lease expiration. I won't worry about the lack of an Icon for My Lighting om the Desktop at this time. Clarence. PS are you going to be at the EHX in Long Beach next month?
-
Yes. Not a problem. Clarence

That is all set up. Are there any other options that I need to set; file Sharing, Public Folders, etc?

OK, I feel dumb... I was trying to log on using the Logon to My Insteon ISY. I was lso trying the Beta address given before. I thought I tried using the IP Address before - but to no avail, but I must have done something wrong - It now works just fine. How do i solve the No Icon problem, any ideas?
-
it works! Isn't that the Internet Access address for the ISY?

Parallels Desktop 3.0
-
The software is called Parallels. Sells for from $60 to $80, depending on where you buy it.
-
no, when you run Parallels, you create a virtual machine that allows you to run multiple OS's on the Mac. You can run Vista, XP, Linux or or any at a time. See what I mean by Cutting Edge?

My Device Manager comes up about 90% complete....I have most of what I need. 1. No Logon window 2. No exit option under the File Menu.
-
Also, don't forget I am running Vista under Parallels on the IMac.
-
That's how I had to run the ISY program - My lighting does not show up on my computer.
-
Just Windows firewall

Michel, I ran Java on the Vista and removed the Universal-Devices Certificate. I got the Admin window for ISY but No Logon Options. When I went back to Java again, and the certificate was back.

I noticed that when I enabled My ISY to have internet access that it was assigned an IP address. Where does this address come from and is this truly the IP address for me to access my ISY from the net? I guess that I need to have my router put this IP on the DMZ or maybe forward all request for that IP to that port via my router??? I'd appreciate any help on understanding this... Clarence

I think that I discovered the problem when I was working on the Mac side of things. The Mac ask if this is a trusted site. If you say no, the screen opens in an inoperable state. This is the same thing that happens in Vista. So, I suspect that I need to look into how Java interacts with ISY (permisiions and so on).

Michel, doesn't the above code continue to set the backyard light off every 2 hours? Is this used just in case someone turns the lights on, and this will automatically turn them back off?
-
Thanks Michel, I now have the Mac working. Interesting situation though - When the Mac downloads the file, it automatically unzips the archive. To solve the problem- I actually re-archived it so that the manual update could unzip & load the update. But the Vista running under Parallels is aother story. I will keep you posted as I try different options. Is there a possibility (in a future release of the ISY) that the serial connector will be replaced with a USB port? Serial ports are just about obsolete in our industry.

I am re-posting this . I posted it in the wrong section - Sorry! OK... I live on the Cutting Edge of Technology. I have decided to go to an IMac and have installed Parallels with Windows Vista. Believe it or not I have real legitimate reasons for this tehnology strategy. I do see a real convergence of technolgy in the Near Future and I need to be there, if not first, close to first. First - I can't get Safari to open the ISY correctly. I do get the Admin Screen but it is missing the tabs for the Programs and Program Details. Running ISY has been spotty at best. Do I need to use a different Browser? - I have no problem with that - I really don't like Safari. Second - Under Windows Vista I get much of the same results, but with BIG logon problems. I also can't see the MyLighting Icon on the main window (this may be a tough problem to solve). I have downloaded the latest Java for Windows. And I have the latest version of Java for the Mac also. Under both OS's I use the Logon to My Insteon ISY.url Any advice to solve my problems would greatly appreciated. By the Way - My experience into this arena has been pretty good. I do get good fuctionality with Vista - some MS Applications have graphics issues. I am still testing other applications that require DirectX support.

Intersting. I will try emptying my cache.

My experiences with Universal Devices......for what it's worth! I purchased the package from UD and I don't regret it for a moment. Their support has been phenominal. I can't say the same for other Insteon Product manufacturers (who I won't name at this time). My philisophy is this: "Their product revolves around the PLM and the ISY working together, so I think support issues with the PLM are best served by them". I realize that the PLM is a Smart Home or Insteon Device and they are ultimately resposible for support. I also believe that the greater number of users of the ISY technology gives UD tremendous leverage in getting Insteon to keep the PLM technology where it belongs. Since I bought my PLM from UD, Smart Home would not upgrade my PLM -since they have no record of my purchase - and I understand fully. I just checked with Smart Home's Tech support people yesterday and finally convinced them that they actually had an upgraded PLM with version 5.?? They do have the newer version of the PLM's in stock. Good Luck.

I tried logging off and on again several times, but no luck for me. I have actually reverted back to 4.9 for the time being.

I downloaded the 2.4.11 beta and found a problem. On Program loading, all of my programs were disabled. I had to manually enable programs. In the Program Summary window, the Program Enable Button has no effect. After manually enabling my programs, in the Program Details Window, when I returned to the Program Summary window the Enabled field Status shows Off. The progam Enabled field does not show the true program status, along with the fact that the new release disables all of the Progams.

Michel, I just talked to Smart Home and they finally told me that they have upgraded the Firmware for the PLM. It was like pulling teeth. They will not upgrade my PLM because I bought it from Universal Devices when I bought my ISY (as a package). They cannot return an item that they don't have an order for. They "kind of" dropped it your lap - Sorry. What's the next step? Thanks, Clarence
