  1. Ok I read and tried what you guys wrote and each time I had the same results as before! It didn't matter in which order (I tried them all!)! So I did another "Forget All" and deleted V2 and V3. Then I went into the Portal and first, turned off Live Update, then secondly I went into the Portal "My Profile" and selected 'Unlink Amazon account' and 'Save'. Then I returned to the alexa.amazon.com app (on my PC) and enabled the v3 skill and went through the authorization to link the account with the Portal. Finally, I did "Rediscover" and I now seem to have the right things in the right order with no duplicates. On my phone, everything looks right... the Device tab only shows actual devices each with light bulb icons and the scenes and programs are showing in the Scenes tab. Not sure about the usefulness of this app though because the Office Light still shows as Off when it really is On and the screen still has the warning "There was a problem"... and as I stated, in my earlier post, Mobilinc is a better tool to see the status of my lights. If the key purpose is to modify the set up for Alexa (new skills...etc) then I will stick to the browser on my PC! Am I missing something about this app?
  2. I tried to read through all of the posts in this thread... but I'm sure I am missing something! I am having issues but I am trying to determine if this is what I should expect... Here is what I did: On my PC, I went on to the Alexa.Amazon.com and logged into my account; I disabled the ISY v2 skill ; I then went into Smart Home/Devices and clicked on "Forget All". Then when I checked all Devices/Programs/Scenes were no longer showing. Interestingly, when I clicked on Discover, even though the ISY skill was disabled, it reloaded all of my Devices/Programs/Scenes! Is this because my Portal Profile has the Amazon account linked? Should I change the Profile to 'Unlink Amazon account' and let the linkage only happen when I enable the ISY v3 skill? Next, I enabled the ISY V3 skill which opened up the screen to authorize the linkage to my Portal account; after 'Submit" and closing the browser page, I was asked to 'Discover Devices'. Then all of my Devices/Programs/Scenes were found and all show up as Devices, but only the Programs/Scenes show up as scenes. However, I also see that each of the Devices discovered show 2 entries on the Amazon site on my PC! Example... Office Light is a dimmer light switch with one Spoken "office light"; when I look at the list of Devices I am seeing 2 entries - first, Office Light, ISY Dimmable device address 1A 58 5F 1, and a second one, office light, Office Light. This is repeated for each device I have set up in the Portal. It does not happen for scenes, programs or my thermostat. Is this what is expected? One of my points of confusion relates to everything being in the 'Devices'! I think Benoit in one post said that they would all be there... Not sure I understand the logic in this! My next issue is the Amazon app (iPhone)... in the Portal I clicked on the "Live Update" button. and then logged into the app on my iPhone. When I open up the Smarthome section in the app, I see all of the same things in the Devices section as on my PC. However, my Office Light (from example above) is showing one instance as a device (with the light bulb) and the other with the icon of a little house with the wifi symbol inside (is this the icon for a scene?). The 2 instances only show in the Devices section of the app! When I click on the Office Light device (the one with the light bulb icon) it opens up and has a message "There was a problem" and shows the light as off, whereas it is on! When I click on the icon in the middle of that screen it first shows "Waiting for UDI" and then shows "Device was unresponsive". If I click on it a few times it finally recognizes and shows that the light is ON but shows the percentage as 0% whereas it's at 100%! If I move the slider at the bottom it does brighten or dim the light and then shows the correct level of brightness. Despite this the screen still shows "There was a problem". Is this the same experience others are having? I'm not sure that I am seeing a lot of value in using this app on my phone... Mobilinc does a better job of showing me the status of my lights!
  3. I just received this email from Amazon.ca: Dear customer, Alexa is now available in Canada. Alexa provides a set of skills and features specifically for Canada, including Air Canada, BMO, TD, Telus, Sportsnet, theScore, CBC, The Weather Network, and Yellow Pages. Some skills and features available in other countries, including Amazon Music Unlimited, Audible, iHeartRadio, Pandora, Sirius XM, Uber, Jeopardy, IFTTT, and Recipes, are not available in Canada. In addition, Canadian English and Canadian skills are not supported for Amazon Echo (1st Gen), Echo Dot (1st Gen), Echo Show, or Amazon Tap. You can change your country settings on supported devices to switch your device to the Canadian Alexa experience. Customers who chose to change the device country settings on their Alexa-enabled devices to Canada may not be able to access content from unavailable services based in other countries. Customers switching countries may lose access to content purchased from other countries on other devices. If your country settings are already set to Canada, you can enjoy the Canadian Alexa Experience without changing your settings. To find out more about changing your country settings on supported devices, visit the following help page: https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=202205900 Note that changing your device country settings will not change your Amazon Music account’s country setting. If you want to do so, you will need to contact Customer Service. Sincerely, Amazon Alexa team Interesting... Well since I have the Echo 1st Gen this explains why I could not get the English (Canada) to work!
  4. Further to my posts above, today being December 5th the day Alexa comes to Canada (officially) I decided to log into my account and see if the English (Canada) was now an option... Nope! So I decided to try what Amazon.ca support suggested.... I went into the app on my PC and changed the address to a US address (my sister's in Oklahoma). After this change the system took me from alexa.amazon.ca to alexa.amazon.com!! Then I went back in and changed the address back to my correct Canadian address. I am now back to where I was last week!! I now have access to the skills section once again and my weather is the local weather. It probably means that I don't have access to the new Canadian skills... I haven't looked at this yet! I wonder if they simply went through their records and changed anyone who had a Canadian address to amazon.ca, from amazon.com as a one time change per account! Otherwise why was I able to go back to where I was using amazon.com but putting in a Canadian address!!
  5. I'm just glad that I don't use Alexa for anything more than making it easier to open blinds or turn lights on (and, of course, my coffee machine!!). Now I have to go back to the old fashioned way...using a switch!! Update: While I was struggling with Alexa and the inability to get at the skills section, I realized that my ISY Portal was no longer 'online'. So I went through a bunch of things to get the portal up and running again (rebooted my router and then the ISY). Now that the ISY Portal is back Online, I tried asking Alexa to do a few things and 'Voila!' she did them!! So Alexa is once again doing my bidding! However, I still cannot get into the skills section due to the language thing! Once again hopefully the English (Canada) will be available later this week.
  6. The default has been English (United States) and it still doesn't work!! Here is the reply I received from Amazon.ca... really helpful!! I guess I will have to wait a few days to see if the Canadian version is in fact available. Hopefully, at that time, they will provide the English (Canada) language which will then allow me to access the skills! Reading the Amazon.ca reply does cause me concern because they make no mention of the December 5th date! Hopefully they know about this!! Talk about a nice transition plan! 'Let's force the early adopters over to the Canadian portal, but not provide them with tools that actually work at the time of this transition'!!
  7. I just tried with the IOS app and I am having the same problem!
  8. I would if I could! However, I cannot get into the skills section at all!!
  9. I have been using the Echo for some time now with my Canadian address and getting local weather...etc. However, this morning when I asked Alexa to turn on a light she told me that the light "isn't responding"! So I tried opening my Amazon account and found that I was forwarded from alexa.amazon.com to alexa.amazon.ca! Then it wouldn't accept my password, so I had to go through the 'forgot password' routine. After resetting the password I was able to get in (on the .ca site) but when I tried to view the skills I got the same message as Larry posted some time ago "I get a warning that my language does not match my account. Click continue to correct it to English (Canada)" When I click on 'Continue' I end up on the 'Settings' screen. When I try to to change the language I am only given 3 choices: - English (United States) - English (United Kingdom) - Deutsch I am not seeing the English (Canada)! Any thoughts on how to proceed? Do I have to completely delete the account and start all over? I just sent an email to support asking them a similar question...
  10. You have assumed that the OP has an old 99i whereas he referred to it as an 94i! I'm guessing that he meant a 994i. If my guess is correct, I would suggest Mobilinc which works well with IOS and allows control on the LAN as well as outside the LAN.
  11. I set it up on my PC and not an iPhone app.
  12. When I tried to set up my Canadian address last night, after reading Pooch15's post, Alexa initially rejected it! So I wondered if it only worked for larger cities ( I live in a somewhat rural area!). So I then tried Mississauga's (Ontario) City Hall address... and it worked! Then I went back and tried my address again and it now worked! I also just tried the Waterloo City Hall and it works too. In fact, when I only put in the address, without the country or postal code, Alexa came back and suggested the correct postal code! (see attached pic) Note that after Alexa accepts my address she changes the Device Time Zone Region to North America and the Time Zone to Eastern Standard Time (Atikokan) which is not the correct time! I manually changed the Time Zone to Eastern Daylight Time (New York) to get the right time.
  13. Nice... Thanks. It works nicely
  14. Interesting question... I had no idea so I counted them... I have 297 programs!! 77 variables and 177 network resources. I'm using a 4 core 3.2GHz processor.
  15. LOL... I guess I wasn't specific enough... that was 9 seconds and 42/100 of a second.
  16. I was curious so I just timed my backup... It took 9:42 seconds to load the Admin Console, from the point where I entered the userID and password. To start from scratch, it took 20:50 seconds to start the Admin Console, bring up the ISY Finder, choose the correct ISY, open the Admin Console, enter the userID and password, and load the nodes. This can obviously vary based on my speed to select the ISY and type my credentials... The backup save to file took 2 minutes and 54 seconds. Not a lot of time to avoid recovering unsaved changes!
  17. I just saw this on the Locative site... the site will be shutting down by mid May 2107!! https://blog.locative.io/bye-everyone-df01871fe949 Are there any other options out there?
  18. I also have the Somfy blinds with an Autelis controller... I have a program, called "Blinds"; the THEN statement closes the blinds and the ELSE opens them . In both cases, like Stu, I am using the a network resource. What I have found works is "Alexa, start the blinds" which causes them to close. "Alexa, stop the blinds" causes them to open. The "start command works reliably, but the "stop" command sometimes needs repeating. What I have found is that I have to say it like "stoptheblinds" with little or no pause between the words... otherwise she hears "stop"!! At least, I find this command more intuitive than "turn on the blinds"...
  19. In blueman2's post #31 he stated Actions include: ask begin do launch load open play resume run start talk to tell use give me can you give me Has anyone been successful in getting "Give Me" to work? I have tried numerous times (similar to intelihome's experience - post # 80) and cannot get Alexa to respond to "Give Me". Despite having deleted the "Tell Me" skill that I originally created and creating a new skill "Give Me", Alexa only responds correctly to "Alexa, tell me the inside temperature"! Edit: corrected the post # reference
  20. An Update... Realizing that Alexa wasn't understanding "tell me" in the first place I went back to the basics of the setup... and when I asked her "Alexa tell me what is my id" she gave me a different id key than I previously had!! I thought that the id key only changes if I delete the skill but presumably it changes for other reasons, not that I know what I did to change it!! Now my using "test" on the network resource and asking Alexa for the inside temperature works... yeah!!
  21. "Clear as mud" Yes it is... If I read your comment correctly you are now saying that "test" runs the network resource the same way that a program does but that you are assuming that the value of the variable is zero and therefore I am giving nothing to Alexa to work with (she doesn't like zero!). However, I explained that I populated the variable with a value 74.5 and therefore my running "test" should pass that value to her regardless of whether the variable is invoked from a program or "test". Does this make sense or is there truly a difference between running "test" and calling it from a program?
  22. I don't want to beat this thing to death... but are you saying that the "test" function does not in fact run the network resource and that invoking that same resource from a program does run it? If so, is there some documentation you can point me to that explains the difference so I can understand this better? My program that I tried had the >= operator and still yields the same result.
  23. I'm still confused on this... if my THEN statement is simply calling the same network resource that I tried "test" on then why do I need a program at this stage? I fully understand the need to use a program, going forward, to make sure that Alexa is aware of temperature changes but I cannot see a need for it now... unless running it from a program does something different than the "test" function! As an aside, I ran it from a program and I still have the same result. I think that somehow Alexa hasn't picked up the "tell me" skill! I am using a "state" variable. You can see that in my network resource ${var.2.20}
  24. Ok I will try doing this... but am I wrong in my understanding that the "test" function doesn't send the current value to the cloud hosted service? In any other use of the network resources I have always used the "test" to see if the resource actually works! Isn't "test" the same as actually running the resource?
  25. I am using a state variable and I gave the variable a value of 74.5 manually, so this should avoid the zero value issue. However, as my last post seems to point to, Alexa doesn't seem to understand the "Tell me" command!
