  1. Would not a harmony hub and associated node server be better (and more reliable) than this Rube Goldberg contraption... Sent from my SM-N9500 using Tapatalk

It's not quite ready yet but you can track the progress here: https://support.rainmachine.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/115005924527-Ethernet If you can, also voice your support for an Ethernet option in that thread. Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk

Rainmachine is also working on an Ethernet option (swap out USB WiFi stick and plug in USB Ethernet adapter) for those hardwire junkies like me. Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk

    Help Needed

I like this as skunk/racoon deterrent: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nTs7VRFV36c Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk
  5. Portal is a good to have but not absolutely required if you know how to port forward. That being said, if you want Amazon Echo integration you need it. Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk
  6. You're all nuts Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk
  7. I guess it's a good thing I'm not religious? Not trying to start an argument, just offering my (superior) point of view In all seriousness though, to each their own. As long as you make a good connection that's what counts. Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk
  8. Yeah my brother turned me onto them about 5 years back when rewired 75% of my then new (to me) house. He's a master electrician and now an ESA inspector so he'd never let me get away with just using the wire nut to twist the wires. The wire nut is really just there to insulate the connection, the real mechanical strength and electrical connection comes from pretwisting the wires together. I can't tell you how many times I've pulled of a wire nut to have all the wires instantly pull apart. Granted the Can-Twist are better than regular wire nuts in this regard but I still wouldn't rely on them for that. Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk
  9. With wire nuts, you're supposed to twist the wires together with a pair of pliers, and then trim the end, before you put on the wire nut. Gives you a much better mechanical and electrical connection, and makes it easier to put the wire nut on. Be sure to observe fill limits. My particular favourite is the Ideal Can-Twist (the blue one - http://www.idealindustries.ca/products/prodSelect.php?prodId=CAN-TWIST&div=0&l1=twist-on_connectors&l2=Can-Twist). I'd never use push-in wire connectors Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk
  10. I use Gentle Alarm Clock and Tasker on my Android phone to communicate my alarm time to my ISY using REST calls. That way I can run programs to coincide with my alarm time (or a certain amount of time before or after). It automatically adjusts to my alarm time, so as long as it is set properly, the program runs at the proper time. Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk
  11. I wouldn't recommend Insteon for locks due to the lack of security. Z-Wave is a better choice for this use case, and Yale and Schlage are both excellent options Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk
  12. Larry note that the Philips Warm Glow bulbs qualify for an instant rebate from Hydro One. It's only a few bucks off but may help with the cost a bit. http://www.hydroone.com/MyHome/SaveEnergy/Pages/Coupons.aspx?utm_source=Radio&utm_medium=Radio&utm_campaign=Coupon_Event_Fall_2015#lighting-coupons Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk
  13. Which ISY do you have and which version of code is it running? Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk
  14. If your ISY can't reach pool.ntp.org, then it sounds like your ISY doesn't have Internet access (or can't resolve DNS), hence why the portal isn't working. I'd probably give your router, then your ISY a reboot and see if that resolves your issue. Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk
  15. Your ISY is presenting a self-signed certificate. If you want the error to go away, you can add it to your browser's trusted certificate store, or you can just continue to get the error and proceed anyways. Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk
  16. Yes. You can have Insteon + one of the following: Z-Wave (Zw) , Zigbee PRO (Z), or Zigbee SEP (ZS). The Z and ZS aren't very useful for most residential applications. You can also add an IR receiver to any of the models (regardless of protocol choice). Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk
  17. Michel, Thanks for your help. I added a second username and it connected successfully. For those who may run into this in the future, the username (email address) is limited to 32 characters (FYI the one I was using was 35 characters - not exactly what I'd call way too long, but too long nevertheless). Would it make sense to maybe have the portal enforce a 32 character limit since the ISY can't handle longer than that anyways?
  18. I get an error when I try to configure the ISY Portal Node Server. I logged into the portal, and then selected Tools > Node Server > Configuration. I click on the "Configure connection" button, get prompted with a popup that says "This will create a new ISY Node server connection using your current ISY Portal credentials. Are you sure?", I click Yes. I then receive another popup with "HTML error 400" (see attached screenshot).

    BACK UP your ISY

It took you almost 10 minutes to load the admin console? Are you running it on a 386 with 4MB of RAM? I'm not sure what other peoples' experience is like, but takes about 20 seconds on my 4 year old laptop... Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk
  20. George I'm contemplating the Doorbird myself; and if I might ask, what didn't you like about it? The cloud independence (local API), standard protocols (SIP, RTSP), and wired Ethernet connectivity (I avoid wireless where at all possible) are all very appealing to me, so I'd love to hear the downsides... 21. Somfy SDN (RS485) DC Powered + Autelis Shade Control for Somfy SDN (SDN > IP gateway) + ISY is what I'm planning on putting in shortly. Of course you can do SDN AC-powered as well. If you want to be able to control from Somfy RTS remotes, you can get an RTS to SDN gateway that you put in each area/room. Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk
  22. Can't answer that as I don't have Mobilinc. I know it's exposed under a different API than normal devices (it's not considered a node), but eKeypad can definitely see it. Agave for Android currently can't, though I hope that will change. Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk
  23. Another option since you have the Elk is an Aprilaire or HAI thermostat. I have the Aprilaire, and while it takes a few components to get it all hooked up, it's pretty robust and you can control it either from your Elk or the ISY (assuming you have the Elk module). It's connected via RS232/RS485 and is pretty robust, with zero cloud dependencies. Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk
  24. Would just buying a plug-in dual-band module be an acceptable solution? You could put it near the thermostats, and as long as it's on the same electrical phase as the PLM is, should extend your reach wherever you need it (within reason) Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk
