  1. The ISY is either Zigbee (and if it's energy monitoring Zigbee, that's different than device Zigbee) or Zwave. The alpha testers have Zwave working with insteon. There are some enhancements teased about 2 way ip communciatons which should open up, by theory, the possibility of wifi control like the network of things concept. Alan

    Tasker

I've noticed better response with 4g most of the time as well. I wonder if I gave my phone a fixed IP on my wifi network if I might solve the issue of when it connects and drops and connects and drops, having a fixed ip would hopefully get rid of that problem for that network. A second access point arrives on Wednesday, which will allow me to get a better signal in a few more places around the property. I think one more after that and I should be good to go. My house has aluminum siding, and the shop steel, they don't let signals travel far for wifi! Alan
  3. And check out with Tasker the Zoom app, I understand it may allow you to make your own "application" with what ever icons and layout you would like. Alan
  4. So you want to set up port forwarding a such with your router so you can not use the Mobiconnect subscription? There is a write up in the wiki for port forwarding so you can access your ISY from outside your local network. Alan
  5. Now that I have your attention LONG on my wife's list has been an "Ozzy Ozborne" remote control. Those being VERY expensive, and me being a purist with my tivo remote, I've been on a long, long quest to find a way to make watching tv or a movie a simplier process. As you all know, teaching the baby sitter, or mother in law, or even the wife the proper order to use this remote to turn on the TV, use this remote to set the receiver and change the input, use this remote to control the blu-ray player, use this remote to make the kids mind, is a constant battle to remind them "you have to do it this way, remember?" Along this line I have invested in a Raspberry Pi, Iguanaworks ir transceiver, and a couple of ir emitters. Total cost would be around $125 or so I imagine. On the journey I also bought, the first time, a Global Cachi IP2IR device, which if you wanted only 1 way control, is a great and simple item to use with the network module for the ISY. Listening for the remote and getting the variables updated in the ISY was pretty straightforward using the rest interface via lirc and it's various little daemons. I use this to tell how many times I hit a particular button to set both some lights on and to set occupancy for the basement as my motion sensor is flaky at this at best. Using software from Jeffrey Hoenig, who wrote the very capable ISYUTIL module, and a whole lot of head scratching while I deciphered his fine piece of perl programming, I have modified his module to let me listen to variable changes on the ISY and react to them by executing scripts which tell the lirc irsend to control my equipment. So to the point of the post here. How are you guys setting up your remotes, keypad lincs, etc for the various functions of tv, movie, radio, etc listening? Current functionality for me: press play 3 times in 5 seconds on either the blu-ray remote or the tivo remote sets a movie scene to slowly fade the lights down and out between the three zones I have in the media room. any remote press on the receiver, or tivo remote causes occupancy to be reset press pause 3 times in 5 seconds on either the blu-ray or tivo remotes causes lights to come up instantly Press tivo button 2x, turns on the tv with a discrete on, the receiver with a discrete on, waits 2 seconds and reset the input to the proper hdmi port. With the discrete on commands I don't have to worry about toggling anything by accident. Press the Movie Scene keypad button once and the tv turns on, the receiver turns on and set the input to bluray. I don't currently turn on the blu-ray player because the act of opening it causes it to turn on. Press the Movie Scene keypad fast on and the tv turns on, the receiver turns on and sets the input to the Tivo. Since the TIVO is always on, I don't need to set that either. Press the Movie Scene keypad off and the componts are told the turn discrete off, currently I lave my xbox alone as occassionaly like to leave a game running for instant access back into it. How can I make all this easier for the wife or what have I not thought of? Alan
  6. Final success. I have now completed a testable amount of code that allows me to set the input on my ir receiver to hdmi 1 whenever the Panasonic remote is pressed. I can make an arbitrary amount of commands to be executed by arbitrary variables and their specific values. Using the process::background module, I just fire off an irsend command and Jeffrey's module keeps humming along. I will strip some more of the verbosity out of his module in the coming weeks. Now to start some sort of new thread on the best practice to handle all this capability and find out how you guys do it. I think I would be best served making a script that actually runs the ir commands in sequence. Thank you all for your assistance. Alan
  7. Or how about with the remote, using the Ir capabilites of the ISY994ir/pro unit and have it control the scene when it sees the IR? On a totally different direction, I've successfully deciphered enough of Jeffrey's excellent perl module for the ISY that I can have two way communications from my Pi to the ISY. No reason you could not interface your pronto serial to the Pi and have it update variables on the ISY to trigger your scenes and such as another angle. Alan
  8. Having survived parties, furniture making, and such, I was able to spend a few hours this morning working on this. I now have a successful hook into Jeffrey's isyutil module so I can watch far particular variable names to come across the subscription with the --monitor command line. Eventually, I will add a more sophisticated checking from a simple if to a hash of variables I want to monitor, and what action I want to occur. So far I have occupancy being updated on any remote control press via irexec command running a wget to use the rest interface to set a variable. Other specific IR buttons like play three times or pause 3 times in a five second span cause the lights to come up for slowly fade out to a movie scene I have set up. The plan for the monitoring of the variables is for the Pi, with the iguanaworks module to now send ir codes to turn devices on or off in particular sequences. This ultimately will give me two way communication via integer values with the ISY and the Pi. Alan
  9. Dennis, write up the testimonial and tell us the story of your ISY and your journey into home automation. Anything unusual you control with your ISY? How is the wife and kid acceptance factors?
  10. What are you hoping to accomplish with computer control that you cannot do via the isy's own programming and ability to interact with the insteon network itself?
  11. To my knowledge there is no public IP API available. https://ecobee.zendesk.com/entries/20444728-Linux Please post a link if it exists. You are correct that it is not "public", however, their beta access group does not appear difficult to be included on. You need to own the thermostat before you can get in. A simple email to their technical support as a developer should get you invited. I confirmed on the phone with two different engineers that full access to the commercial stat, with access to the ems data, was available via the api before I made the decision to buy compatible sensors and plan on running wires. Alan
  12. send us some screen prints of how you have the scene controllers and responders set up. I know you can do this because I have my keypad buttons turn on and off with other scenes around the house. Also post your program(s) that time the house fan so we can see those as well. I often make the buttons controllers of the scenes, unless they are just informational and I just want them to display not control. Alan
  13. They have had a large number of requests for Ecobee support form the ISY and it's on the roadmap, I'm hoping by year end. There is an extensive API available to communicate natively with the Ecobee over IP even, not just zigbee. Here's hoping it lives up the wait as I too plan to go Ecobee, in my case the full blown commercial unit since I can control my shop hydronic radiant heat in a different building, my bathroom radiant heat via electric mat, the normal house heat pump, the second phase gas furnace, and the humidifier. I have to add the EMS module and run some cables a long ways, in the case of the shop, and install a relay or two, which will probably end up talking to insteon, or maybe I will just use the isy to directly control the devices based on what the ecobee is telling me. Excited about that integration.

    My ISY console

What anti-virus software are you running? Which browser are you running? Do you have the 'http://www.universal-devices.com as a trusted site if you are using IE? Never use IE myself, unless it's required by the website to function properly. Once Google came out with Chrome, I even moved from Firefox instantly. Never, had any issue with the admin console on Chrome. If your problem is browser independent, than there is an issue further up the food chain here.

    Tasker

Actually didn't think about it when I put that up. However going through Mobilinc adds many, many seconds of delay compared to the rest interface. It's an issue with my phone dropping the radios fairly often, but Verizon said it's not a replaceable issue. I may try dropping curl just on the sd card and point to that to use the plain rest interface. Currently the delay is 5 seconds from request to execution manually doing it with Mobilinc. My ping time is 123 milliseconds. Compared to the rest interface, that's like 5x as long. Often I pull out my phone in the driveway, hit open garage door in the mobilinc, put my bag in the truck, walk to the garage door, key in the code to the keypad and have the garage door open, BEFORE mobilinc executes the same command. Maybe the next samsung won't have the radio issue, or I will root the phone and see what happens with some other ROM on there.

    Tasker

Got it working that way. Need to play with some sensitivity a bit. So next task is to see if I am on local wifi or not BEFORE I have it go into the auto voice. Anyone solve the HTTPS issue yet?
  17. That did the ticket, Lee. I deleted the old scene, re-added the bathroom switch and made sure to make it the controller this time specifically. I'll check out if running the Then allows me to set the proper on light level after midnight. Thanks again Alan
  18. a bit stumped here. I want to have the bathroom_oh light come on at 15% level after midnight. I read that I was setting up the program incorrectly, but I don't have the option to chose the device as the device I want to set the scene level too: If From 11:50:00PM To 6:00:00AM (next day) Then In Scene 'Night_Bathroom' Set 'Bathroom_OH' 15% (On Level) Else In Scene 'Night_Bathroom' Set 'Bathroom_OH' 80% (On Level) This program if I click on run the Then the lights still come on at 80%. According to a post I found, the In Scene should be "Bathroom_OH" set 'Bathroom_OH' 15% (On Level) But it's not a device I can choose, many other devices are, but not that one. Alan
  19. so what is causing the variable to change and cause the if clause to evaluate and then be false so it runs the else? Alan
  20. you probably want some sort of wait after you run the bell from the button. But you have to have something AFTER the wait like a query or else the ISY will ignore the wait since it's waiting for nothing. Wait does not work like sleep does in other languages.

    Tasker

Thanks to this thread, I have an autovoice in tasker that lets me turn a couple of lights on or off with a simple voice command to my phone. Will parse this out in a few days to control all the lights when at home so I don't have to go into mobilinc each time I want to do it. The video on youtube had a gester on the home screen to bring up the autovoice, but I may just live with the icon for now. Be pretty cool to use my tablet, or phone to just say, turn off the kitchen lights!
  22. went the opposite route on my end, I wanted my regular remotes to be able to control the lights for certain things, so with a PI, ircmd and some variables I can cause the lights to fade or turn on with the regular tivo remote and hitting certain buttons 3 times. Next I'm getting back in about 3 weeks to subscribing to the ISY so I can have 2 way variable conversations with a perl script and issue other IR commands from the Raspberry Pi to control the components themselves.
  23. The ezflora itself becomes disabled by the rain sensor if you configure it that way with the ezsuite from their software program. The ISY cannot program the ezflora directly as to maximum run times on the zone, if the value zone it is NOT a master you can use it turn on a sprinkler zone just like the other 7. You COULD use an IO linc to get the rain sensor as a on or off value, maybe with a bit more electronics on the line as I am not sure how the io linc would handle the rain sensor's on or off without some experimenting. This would allow you use the state of the rain sensor in your custom program. If you use the wiki to make up the calendar programs you can use those variables to every other day, every three days, every four days etc. It is great being able to control the sprinklers from the phone, wife thought the front yard looked a little dry during a hot spell, so I told her to pull out her phone and turn them on then! Alan
  24. I migrated from X10 to insteon over the last couple of years. I ran the x10 with misterhouse, added houselinc into the mix for a while with insteon, found it too limited and went back to misterhouse with the insteon plm. I never really got the system I wanted until I went with the ISY994i last fall. THEN it became very reliable, simple to program, simple to set up scenes, etc. Mobilinc lets me control my whole setup from my phones and tablets. SO I would completely skip the hub, smarthome puts out some buggy stuff for a while, UDI supports their product better and you have a fantastic community here. Alan
  25. why don't you change the time of the notification to 6:00 am and see if they match better, what is magical about 12:00 midnight vs 6:00 in the morning? Personally I run my sprinklers early am, one as early as 3:00 am and most others at 4:00 am. They say wet grass over night can lead to extra grass diseases, but I have not seen mother nature decide oh, it's night so I cannot rain! Alan
