  1. I get what your saying and it would be nice. However, they have no control over zwave at the protocol level. It would take OEMs either supporting what the device class is capable of or removing the unnecessary code. It may potentially be possible if they only supported a few devices. Then they could program around the code limitations however, that would leave users with minimal choices in devices they wish to use.
  2. That's because all of that information is in the zwave device at the firmware level. The mfg of the device just codes not to add support for it
  3. What do you mean look more like insteon does?
  4. Yes. Zwave is a different protocol and has its own board.
  5. Depends on ones perspective. There are lots of companies still in business that UDI doesn't support. One could argue that by focusing on building their own brand outside of the Isy by focusing on new customers, they give themselves the best chance to grow. At one point, the Isy was dependant on insteon. By branching out and supporting zwave and other stuff, the isy has been able to grow and stand on its own. The new line allows insteon to do the same. Grow their own name without the Isy. That way, should UDI choose to not support them, they'll still be ok. They can always come back later. Let's be real for a minute. Half hates insteon and the other half are already entrenched in their systems. While some may try a few devices, you won't find many ripping out their whole system that's been working for them.
  6. The new version will not be out for quite some time. The new line will be built out before that's released
  7. It wouldn't work with insteon but would for zwave if you got the zwave version
  8. The USB plm has always been around. It is not compatible with the Isy. Polisy is able to make use of the USB plm
  9. Looks like you're having issues communicating with that kpl. I'd troubleshoot first to ensure communication is good. Next, I'd add a few seconds delay between each line to give time for the commands to process
  10. Overheating may cause devices to fail but would not cause any signal degradation. Especially since each module would still be repeating the signal. With X10 they would degrade since they do not repeat but the insteon signal itself gets repeated so any potential degradation would be a wash. In addition to that, he said plugged into the same outlet not necessarily stacked on top of each other. I used a plug in module stacked on top of an iolinc as an example of Insteon being in close proximity to one another not causing issues (in addition to switches in the same box). Insteons own test stations often have setups on their carts where modules were either stacked or combined in some way. While anything is possible, I highly doubt proximity would case an issue.
  11. It wouldn't . If that was the case, people would have issues when they put range extenders on top of iolincs or switches side by side in the box
  12. I doubt 2 plms together would cause any issues since the one being used would be processing any commands at any given moment. If anything, i could see the software's causing conflict since both can run commands concurrently causing collisions. With him using the Isy, I would take @MrBilladvice, get rid of houselinc, and move everything to the Isy
  13. Post your programs. Also firmware and UI of your Isy
  14. The process has changed. That's the new process. Creating a portal account is free, quick and simple
  15. You'd need to upgrade your Isy firmware to 5.0.16c to use that device. Make sure you read the full instructions should you decide to upgrade before starting to avoid any issues
  16. No there is not. Zwave doesn't work like that. Even if there was, you'd be spending more time trying to avoid the issue than it would take making a back up and restoring
  17. They have an ID and qr code that can be scanned
  18. There's a whole debate/discussion on another thread about this and the path they are taking at this time. It's not a lack of brains but a decision to take a different path
  19. You will have to use their hub. I explained in an earlier post what happens with the Isy
  20. I don't think he realizes it's more of a licensing thing than actual ownership
  21. Who says they can? Additionally, larger companies typically have more buying power than smaller companies. It's why you'll see Amazon carrying stuff that your local dealer may not be able to get right now.
  22. Post pictures of your programming. No one can tell you definitively with so little information.
  23. None of them are supported by the Isy. While they will add as an unsupported device, you will not receive device status from them or change modes ie: the dimmer will not be able to become a relay and the relay will not be able to become a dimmer. You can send basic commands from the Isy but that would be it. Your suspicion would be incorrect. UDI has already stated their stance in regards to these devices and no, they will not be supporting them AT ALL without full documentation and support from smartlabs which will not happen anytime soon. There is a much bigger divide between these devices and standard insteon devices than you realize. The only similarity between these and standard devices is how they communicate. UDI could reverse engineer the protocol for basic support. However without the API and access to insteon servers, most of the differentiating features would be left out
  24. I think syntax. Wanting to say open or close instead of on/off
  25. No. At least not in the near future
