Electric Hot Water Tank
Teken: My electrical knowledge/aptitude, if distilled, would easily reside in a thimble! Thus, I do not understand the terms NOS, N.O. and N.C. If the potential exists for the unit to fail, cycling nonstop then that is a non-starter since the location is 325 miles from my home and I can't intervene. Currently, no pun intended, I throw the breaker when we leave that location. The only downside to that approach is that hot water is unavailable until it is heated when we return.

Electric Hot Water Tank
Thanks. Does the 240 controller normally fail in the On position? I ask because that mode of failure would allow hot water to be used until repair/replacement of the controller. Failure in the Off position is entirely unacceptable.

Electric Hot Water Tank
I have an electric hot water tank at a remote location that I would like to turn on/off remotely using an ISY 994i IR Pro. Any advice based on experience good or bad will be appreciated.

KPL Reliability
Thanks, Teken. I tend to agree with your assessment. My KPLs are all doing fine but then again, they are not very old.

KPL Reliability
I have decided to add a few more KPLs but when I saw the reviews for the 2334-232 and, especially their longevity, I became concerned. One could have substituted PLM for KPL in the reviews. What's the deal?

Mini Remote vs. Dualband KPL Dimmer & Tabletop Enclosure
Sounds like a mini remote and another fanlinc is in my future. Thanks, again.

Mini Remote vs. Dualband KPL Dimmer & Tabletop Enclosure
The feedback is much appreciated. Your feedback has raised my confidence in the mini remote thus making my decision all the more difficult. I suspect I will go with the mini remote so I can gain experience with it. Do any of you use it to control an overhead fan/light combination?

Mini Remote vs. Dualband KPL Dimmer & Tabletop Enclosure
The reviews I have seen of the Mini Remote are not very favorable whereas a KPL situated in a Tabletop Enclosure seems very workable. Any advice/recommendations?

Recognizing I'm home using Wifi connection
Xathros: I see that as a potential option as well.

Recognizing I'm home using Wifi connection
I am curious why. The wife can come in and drop things off and close the door with no problem. The son can come home, open and close the door and, if stays, and moves about the desired action will take place.

Recognizing I'm home using Wifi connection
Would this be a good fit for a door sensor? A program which first noted the door open, then closed then followed by MS a couple of minutes later.

Insteon 2441ZTH Current State???
I haven't had to do this but once and it has operated fine since. Strange thing is I know there have been power outages at the location. Go figure. It is working and I occasionally confirm that by repositioning an Insteon camera so I can see a thermometer. The thermostat and thermometer are always in reasonable agreement. As I posted earlier, all I expect of the thermostat is for it to alert me if the propane heating system has failed at this remote location.

Xathros: Can you recommend a book on networking, email setup and the like?

SMTP Settings
Bingo! Xathros. Using Port 587 and TLS worked.

SMTP Settings
I am definitely doing something wrong. I changed the outgoing port to 465 and SSL enabled in Apple Mail. I then checked the authentication box and selected Password. I entered the User Name and Password. I then tested my email account by sending a test message to myself. It worked fine. However, when I entered the SMTP Settings in the ISY and tested I got the message Mail Server Failure (Server not responding). I apologize for the inconvenience, but I am a novice where networking issues are involved.

As best I can tell, given the message I receive, the problem has something to do with authentication. Do you know if the ISY requires something in this step in order to accept my entries?

SMTP Settings
I am trying to set up my SMTP settings in the ISY so I can stop using the default. Although all my settings appear correct, when I test the settings I get the message [unsupported Authentication Method]. When I checked the authentication settings in my Apple Mail setup I have “none” selected. Is this my problem? What should I use for authentication in my Apple Mail settings in order to have these settings accepted in the ISY setup? Mac OS 10.9.5; Apple Mail 7.3.

Http and Https Port Numbers
My question was improperly phrased, reflecting my networking naivete. I will do some more research to better try to frame what I am trying to do. Thanks.

Http and Https Port Numbers
I am trying to complete Network Settings so I can stop using the NTP Server. I have all the information except the Http Port Number and the Https Number. I am using a Mac with an Airport Extreme router. Can anyone tell me where to find these port numbers?

Insteon 2441ZTH Current State???
I agree, but my programs run w/o me being aware and I now have a product that meets my needs. More importantly, for me, I have ceased "chasing my tail" in a hunt for the perfect thermostat. I

KPL Status Display Problem
IndyMike: Thanks. That was the problem. I learn something new routinely from you guys.

KPL Status Display Problem
I have 3 devices in a scene; all are designated as Controllers in a scene. The scene controls fluorescent lights in the garage. Two devices are ToggleLincs and are used to control a 3-way circuit. The third device is a KPL which is located in the kitchen at a point less than 5 feet from what I will call ToggleLinc B in the garage. All 3 devices will turn the lights on and off. If any of the 3 controllers are manually activated, the KPL button displays its status correctly. Sometimes I forget to turn these lights off so I wrote a program that says if ToggleLinc A is on, wait 5 minutes and turn off ToggleLinc A. The program executes as designed and the lights turn off. The problem is that the KPL stays lit despite the fact that it and the other devices are all controllers in the scene. Strangely, if I use ToggleLinc B in the program instead of ToggleLinc A, the program does not execute despite that ToggleLinc B fact is nearest to the KPL. I have restored ToggleLinc B, and it still does not run properly in the program. I have added a LampLinc dualband in the garage and included it in the scene as a controller and ToggleLinc B still will not work in the program. The fact that ToggleLinc B cannot be used successfully in the program leads me to believe it might somehow be the the culprit in the KPL not ptroperly displaying its status. However, in every other respect ToggleLinc B functions as it should. I am at a loss. Any help will be appreciated.
