I had an issue adding my existing echo devices to speaker groups when I picked up a couple of the latest dots. I traced it down to wifi issues. Even though all devices were on the same wifi they could not be added, Removing the devices that could not join groups from my sccount and then re adding it solved my issue.

I have noticed similar issues with Hue lights when using ISY programs to control using a series 1 Hue hub. It appears to me that the Hue hub can’t keep up with the commands coming in.

Thanks apostolakisi.. You must have been writing your reply as Inwas posting mine.. You are 100% correct as stated all is working fine now.

I am so sorry for wasting everyone’s time on this... It was a case of user error and over thinking the problem. Turns out they are two normal threeway circuits, what thru me initialy was I knew the power was entering on box 1 and couln’t undersant why box 2 was hot. This got my head wrapped around all kinds of wild ideas of californis wiring etc... Once I started following oberkc’s advice and documenting the wiring I found out although the power entered into box 1 it was then routed to box 2. So from there it all fell into place. Have the Z-Wave switches in and working great. Thanks everyone who offered ideas. Trevor

Actualy they are not outlawed if there is a neutral in the boxes which there is, at least that is what I have read.

Sorry for the delay getting back to everyone had something come up. After further investigation I think it may be wired as a California threeway. The reason I say this is because with all four switches removed (2 upstairs, 2 down) all 12 wires are hot.... Don’t think I can add a smart switch now... Any and all input welcome.
-
Thanks for the input. I will investigate further given all your input and reply back later today.

Thanks for your reply. This is a threeway setup the pictures show both switch boxes, both the live blacks and white neutrals of the 4 lights are wired together as shown in picture one. Picture two shows that the second switches in the threeway setups have one cable ( 3 wires red, black, white) connected, this cable does not come from the first switch as far as I can tell. The threeway switch setup as shown works just fine.

I posted this in the ZWave forum but thought I would post it here also for help from non ZWave folks. I bought a couple of ZWave Dimmer switches to add to my 3way foyer and staircase lights. When I opened up the boxes was not what I expected. If anyone can give me advice on the wiring in the attached photos I would very much appreciate it.

Good news Google Home now uses the Room when issuing commands and no longer switches all lights off when asked to turn the lights off. A lights off/on command will only effect the lights assignrd to the same room as the Google Home or mini etc. To switch all lights off/on you have to state all lights and only devices assigned as lights are effected. This is a major improvement.... Also their music capabilities have been greatly improved, my albums that I have uploaded now play without problems.

Thanks James that solved the problem...

When I ask Google home to turn anything on I am getting the reply “universal devices unavailable right now”. The ISY is working fine and I can access the portal with no problem, any thoughts on possible issues and solutions.

I have a feeling that this will be comming in a future Home release. Everything I read and see points to this being direction Google is heading.

Philips Hue 3rd Generation coming October 4th!

Several points made in this thread are right on with my experience and overall thoughts on automation and Hue lights in particular. 1) The color rendition on the original Hue bulbs suck, I use mainly the shades of white or very subdued colors in scenes. 2) A light must be able to be switched on and come on at either full brightness or a pre set level of your choice from a wall switch. This is an absolute requirement for the WAF in my house. I also use insteon switches to control the two rooms I use Hue lights in, these trigger network resources to set The Hue lights as required. I agree that the Hue lights should have an option on this point, but because of the above it doesn't bother me. 3) The Hue api has been getting better with every release for the diy home automation fan, the addition of scene control has greatly reduced the amount of network resources to create complex color schemes that change quickly and smoothly. 4) The ISY is the tool that has enabled me to automate diverse technologies together so that they appear seamless to other people. -
I like Lizzy also... have called the Navigation system in my car "Betsy" for years so I would put that forward also.

Or the age in me say's HAL.... The above, the above above that and this one should all be ignored (INMHO)

Alexa told me how she likes to hear it today. After asking her several ways she replied " Tell me what you want to set and what to set it to". So I did " Set the kitchen to 50%" She gets it every time now. This also turns lights on to the desired setting if they are off. One other thing I have noticed is, I need to give a slight pause between the device name and the "to" or she concatenates them and replies she can't find that device. @Barry Gordon Hey Barry good to see you active on this forum, We have exchanged posts an emails several times over the years, the last time was on an ip remote forum a couple of years ago. Still use one of the tools you developed to test ip commands and capture feedback. See you settled on Commanf Fusion. I went with Demopad and have not regretted it. Like you have several iPads and iTouch devices throughout the house controlling things. Just setup your Bridge device and seems to be working fine except I can not get it to bring up scenes. If I use the custom and add my own scene it works from the test button, but Alexa reports device is not working and check connections. Also noticed you do not have a close/exit button on the app (whoops just found the big red exit button)

Thanks btreinders Got the other half of my brain back just before you posted and tried the configurator... It does work but in my initial tests it is leaving the ISY password info as admin:admin, this is a configurator issue that I need to check into.

Does Ha bridge work with the isy or only vera? I downloaded the latest Bridge 4.2 and have the bridge running on my Windows server, but nothing is populating from the isy. Did change the ip address in the jar launch to the isy address. What am I missing ? ( Other than half a brain this morning)

Alexa can dim lights or switch on at x percent with the hue lights. "Alexa dim kitchen lights 25 percent" or "Alexa turn on Kitchen lights 25 percent" So the capability is there just needs to be included in the ISY interface when developesd
-
Have not reached that limit yet, only have 12 at the moment as I am using mostly scenes and programs, so I am not using individual lights.

Run into one small issue using the ISY and Hue emulator as a bridge to other systems. I am using variables to trigger commands to a Demopad Centro that controls all Devices in my home and visual feedback to iPads and phones. I have the Insteon lights working fine as I can subscribe to the ISY and feedback is automatic. However I can not get the variables to provide status this way. Is this my lack of knowledge or an ISY limitation.

Added the Hue emulator today and have it working pretty well. Found out thwt if you update a command Alexa will get confused and say there are more than one device with that name. Solution is to wipe everything out and rescan, no big deal other than I have a Hue setup and it wipes out any groupings I have created. Have been able to set Alexa up to turn on/off the TV, Receiver, security cameras and lights so far. This is a blast....
