The beep fields have never worked in most Insteon devices. Those devices do not support the beep length but UDI provided whatever was specified anyway.

What fields display zero when your start the admin console? My admin console is always up to date when it allows me to operate it. (unless my java times out and locks it up) What am I missing here?
-
Opening the admin console does not cause any querying of devices, only transmission of currently known statuses inside ISY. Insteon Queries do not ask for any particular information, only that devices send their current status for their nodes. Battery devices do not typically send much or anything. Ramp speed wasn't included in the packets either AFAICT. Since ISY is the only source to set the LED levels there would be no value in the devices to respond with the status change. The other nodes in devices can be changed by other Insteon devices. This may not be true for ZWave device technologies. IIRC backlight levels for Insteon SwitchLincs were never available in any ISY version. If they were discontinued old programs would stop functioning. UDI never does that intentionally.

IIRC I read in a post back some time that the low battery status for MSes can be reset inside ISY by using a query line inside a program. I have used it in my system and I believe it works. Since MSes do not send Low Batt = Off, ISY has to create the status.

You may have to clarify what a "backlight level" is.

Possibly not, but I would do my best to upgrade everything first. It may save you a lot of time/grief later. It's always free.

Always select a hardwired stat for HVAC control. Monitoring and remote control is secondary. I tried various stat brands and ended up with two ecobees. Ecobee isolated it's sensors very effectively from the smart electronics. This is extremely important for good home comfort. Sent from my SM-G930W8 using Tapatalk

As much as I have constantly heard about the evils of enabling uPnP, anytime I have disabled it in my router, many things stop working. I have a few conflicting articles but hardly any discuss any problems with it being used. Sent from my SM-G930W8 using Tapatalk

Just move the controlling stat sensor further from the heating source. It's hard to prevent waves of heat and cold but easy to create them. Alternatively block the air circulation to the stat sensor with a shelf or piece of furniture underneath to slow down the circulation causing the stat to have a slow response. Turn off circulating fans in the stat room. Sent from my SM-G930W8 using Tapatalk

You would need a modem and Internet access to send email. Emails are sent through a service that converts your emails to sms. Your ISP or mobile service (if you have a modem for your mobile device) usually offers this service.

Excellent so far. That is the usage I am looking to do in the near future. I have searched for that "live update" option in the ISY Portal and the Alexa app to no avail. I was sure it was at the top right of the ISY Portal main page before. Grrrrr.....

hmmmm.... I have never used this feature from ISY to Alexa. I could never understand the point of it, duplicating ISY's functions, and preferring ISY to have total control over everything and trying to avoid cloud and especially double cloud methods. I have only used the Alexa Routines from vocal in to vocal out, so far as I only discovered this about a week ago. I only use it to amuse my wife with compliments.

I have not tried these triggers from ISY yet. Did you Discover the new devices in Alexa? Does the result show in the admin console variable? Sent from my SM-G930W8 using Tapatalk

Sorry.. I misunderstood your question. You can create sync programs to transfer the statuses to programs or variables and use them in Alexa.

The mini remotes are programmable for many different styles. My 4 rocker key mini remotes produces 16 different Insteon codes. Fast on, on, brighten, dim, off, fast off, for each of the four rocker switches. The ISY Portal is not required or used for mini remote to ISY communications. Sent from my SM-G930W8 using Tapatalk

I have coloured lights in my Gathering Room and my Master bedroom. GH confuses certain colours every time and has for at least a year for me. Hey Google! Turn On/Off Red Bedroom lights will turn on/off two units.....Bedroom Red Headboard and Red Lights. For some reason certain colours do it and some don't. I gave up and Red Lights, and Red Bedroom Lights. GH would turn on/off every light in my bedroom as well as the Red Lights in my Gathering room, so I substituted Headboard in there instead of Lights. Google still has problems making assumptions trying to create Artificial Intelligence (guessing). Now I use Red Lights and Red Headboard but certain colours are assumed to be All X colour lights, while others aren't. No room aware is used. I can;t make GH work reliably with a single room construct. I have contacted Google support several times only to be ignored, told they have never heard of ISY Portal, or told to contact my provider. I use Alexa mostly now.

They may have changed the codes sent. So some devices only send on. You cannot use status in those cases. Control/switched is the only logic that can detect the same signal as there is no change in status. Sent from my SM-G930W8 using Tapatalk

The ISY Log only records changes in status sent from devices. Scene commands do not respond and therefore have no record in the Log. I once found an OnOff plug-in, totally involved in any scene, sending out "scene on" messages in response to Off commands from ISY. The error Log showed some bad messages from it at the approximate times when it happened. Simply unplugging the OnOff module stopped it. Been good over a year now.

Mine always seem to get through despite always having that error message, since Google decided to upscale all it's security game.. Many posts complaining about that have been posted here. I don't find any action that can be taken inside the google home app, ie. update or synching...but it does it just fine from ISY Portal. I have completely deleted my google apps, rebooted my phone, created a completely new google account and relinked it, multiple times, and it still complains that Google rejects the security provided. I suspect that Google has gone to two level security authorisation rejecting Bots, and now ISY Portal cannot ever support it, looking and being a Bot style login. Aside from my GHA minis being useful for Internet research information, I have mostly given up on Google's ownership attempts on my life, and avoid them as much as possible now.

I find the admin console does not remember settings for each browser. One desktop needs about Font = 16pt and another needs Font=12pt. Any usage of one nullifies the size preset for the other system.

None of them stick with double sided tape. You require clips shown in other threads, or stuff track channels as Mr. Cold White (Scott above) used. My 230 feet of cheap RGBWW led strips work fine and other than the orginal section of bad red elements that were replaced, I have never had a problem with them at about $35 per 5m section. I do have some white 18 inch hard tube ones purchased for about $40 each I wish I had never seen but then I can hardly see anything with them How the technology changes from last week. The mounting quality is in the B holder. Sent from my SM-G930W8 using Tapatalk

Like most interpreter/compilers these days, the programs will be tokenised and not take much space at all, especially in this day and age where the kBytes term is seldom heard anymore, and MBytes are like crumbs on the floor. Sent from my SM-G930W8 using Tapatalk

I think everybody has got that error for the last six months. It doesn't seem to make any difference to operation. Sent from my SM-G930W8 using Tapatalk

Your IO/Link can only do the same thing your GDO pushbutton does. Each time you push the button the direction alternates. It could be determined with the status of the door, used in an ISY program though.

First. ISY programs do not actually "test" anything. ISY programs are event driven by changes of devices sent from the remote devices. ISY then remembers what the position of the devices are until told differently. Programs only run when a line causes them to "Wake up" from those events. You can try something like this in another program and develop it further by adding more lines. If Garage door sensor is switched On AND I am not home <------------ if you have a method of knowing this in ISY Then Wait 2 hours Close garage door Else ------ WARNING! This could be dangerous to close a garage door without having a visual of the opening and most will not recommend it. Prepare for some flack here possibly. Newer garage door operators do this on a timer but warning beepers are used before closing. This doesn't help a toddler that could get killed by the door or a toy that could damage your door and/or gasket seal.. Your conscience!
