Settings->Polisy Configuration hangs and System->Check for Polisy Update problem
JTsao replied to JTsao's topic in Geek Batch
I just checked the Polisy again and the problem has resurfaced. I checked all the obvious things - cleared browser cache, rebooted the Polisy, logged out, logged in,etc. The strange thing is that I have not updated the Polisy since applying the SSH fix a few days ago. Anyone else seeing the two issues again? -

In my case, I was in my house, on a PC on the same LAN as the Polisy I just opened an SSH session to the IP address of the Polisy I had to use the default username: admin password: admin -
Settings->Polisy Configuration hangs and System->Check for Polisy Update problem

Michel K. helped me to fix the problems - I hope he doesn't mind me sharing this here - you have to be somewhat technical I use the program Putty for SSH - procedure is below: 1. Ssh to Polisy 2. curl -s https://pkg.isy.io/script/update121.sh | sudo bash Then I followed the instructions to reboot after the script completed, performing a "sudo shutdown -r now" (script will tell you what to type, I am guessing from memory - may be different) This appeared to be an alternative means of updating the Polisy and it fixed both issues -
Settings->Polisy Configuration hangs and System->Check for Polisy Update problem
JTsao replied to JTsao's topic in Geek Batch
Hi Michael, Thanks for the reply - I did try clearing the cache and 3 different browsers but no luck - this problem has me stumped -
I've had the Polisy Pro for quite some time now and it is generally working well, but recently, I have noticed some generic problems (in the title) - (1) When I go to Settings->Polisy Configuration, it says "Please wait, getting configuration..." indefinitely. I honestly forgot what the menu is supposed to look like if it ever updates, but I am pretty sure its not supposed to hang- Also (2), when I go to System->Check for Polisy Update, it no longer displays a message indicating if an update is available or not. It does display the green box saying that it "Sent upgrade check command to Polisy..." but there are no subsequent boxes displayed. I was in the process of documenting my Polisy setup by pasting screen captures into a MS-Word document when I noticed these issues. Running 10 nodeservers. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Forgot to mention, running V2.2.9-5 on the Polisy and V5.3.0 on the ISY

I have also upgraded from the 300 to 500 series module and upgraded from v5.1 to v5.2 - everything went extremely well with the 300 to 500 upgrade and the v5.2 update, except 1 z-wave device is not working at all - any suggestions (link below)? https://forum.universal-devices.com/topic/30585-aeotec-gen-5-siren-not-working-after-z-wave-module-upgrade-to-500-series/
-
It looks like UDI is going to offer a discount on a 500 series module to those of us with the 300. Looking at UDI's online store, they also have an external z-wave module - I am wondering if that is also a replacement option that could perform better than the 500 series. Anyone know about this? EDIT: not an option - found this: https://forum.universal-devices.com/topic/28001-new-external-zwave-module/ I would also be very interested on the time frame for moving the ISY to the Polisy and the future Polisy z-wave module - can anyone from UDI comment on this?
-
Completely understand. Ironically, a couple of weeks ago, after encountering 5.1 upgrade issues, I did a factory reset on the z-wave dongle and re-enrolled everything to get it working with version 5.1.0 - and since then, z-wave operation has been noticeably improved vs. the previous few years.
-
+1 - I am hoping UDI makes this right - first the Climate Module goes away and now my z-wave module along with z-wave locks, sensors and switches - if someone finds out what they are offering - please post
-
Well, I tried synchronize all and it deleted all of my z-wave equipment; so I went back to v5.1, did a factory reset of the z-wave dongle and re-enrolled everything and now it's working - actually working well so far... fortunately I don't have a lot of z-wave stuff - I would not be happy if I did
-
Complete disaster over here - I upgraded and the few z-wave devices that I have stopped working (3 locks, 2 repeaters, 2 sirens, 1 motion detector switch) - I backed up, then tried to synchronize, didn't work - went back to v5.016C and restored the backup, tried multiple resets and still nothing works - any suggestions? errors below: at 08/08/2020 03:06:26 PM : [n003_harmonyctrl] DON 0 Sat I had the Ring working via ISY Portal and the Cloud Nodeserver + Polisy Pro but today I noticed a blue prompt on the dashboard saying "Please click here to authorize access to your Ring account". Strange, because I already had authorized access to the Ring account and it was working. So perhaps some update that I did to the Polisy Pro broke it? Not sure what happened, but regardless, when I put in my valid credentials and the code for 2 factor authentications that I get on my phone it says "invalid e-mail or password" - yet I can login to the main Ring page this way. Long story short, I had it working; I did nothing to change any settings and now it doesn't work (won't authorize). Any suggestions here?

Can someone elaborate on how to create fake Hue bulbs? I want to be able to run a program when the dedicated harmony companion home control buttons are pressed. I can do this right now using a real physical light (scene). Basically the button (via the hue emulator) will turn on/off a scene where a light is set to 10%. When the light is set to 10% brightness, a program gets triggered - but it would be better to not have to modify a real scene, rather a fake bulb or something. So, can someone explain how to create a virtual/fake hue bulb?

What do I lose by creating ISY nodes with DSC motion sensors?
JTsao replied to ISY Newbie's topic in ISY994
One issue is the battery DSC motion sensors like I have have a built in delay of something like 6 seconds - if that is not a problem then they could be used. The security MD batteries last a long time. An in-wall solution, if you can wire power to it, is to use a GE enbrighten Z-Wave motion sensor switch. -
Received an e-mail that the Polisy ship date was delaying until 11/19/2019 - you can get it earlier (after 10/21) if you opt for the "Polisy Geek Batch" which, I believe, includes you as kind of a beta tester.

This is an example of a brand of ceiling fan capacitor I have used: https://www.amazon.com/Podoy-Capacitor-CBB61-4-5uf-Ceiling/dp/B07FB8VL3F/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=Podoy+Ceiling+Fan+Capacitor&qid=1571084072&s=industrial&sr=1-3 It contains 3 capacitors with a common lead at one end (2 gray wires - use either one or both) and 3 individual leads at the other end. Connect the block in-line on your hot wire going to the ceiling fan motor, using the common lead, then one or more of the capacitors together on the other end (so that they are in parallel). Add value of connected capacitors to determine total capacitance. More = faster. Only works with the most common type of ceiling fan motor which I believe is called an inductive AC motor. Could potentially switch in one, two or three of the capacitors under remote control with the right device - certainly a mechanical relay could work.

Thanks for the replies - so it looks like when my Polisy shows up I should set up the Hue Hub Emulator, which will allow me to use those dedicated smart home buttons on the remote. Seems like unnecessary work if Logitech would just allow me to assign the ISY IR codes to those buttons, or if they would support IP to the ISY994 directly. (I have the network module).

I am in the process of setting up a Logitech Harmony Companion remote + hub and it seems that Logitech limits the yellow home control buttons (light bulb or socket icons) to a small list of devices that doesn't include the ISY. Does anyone know how to assign ISY infrared commands to those buttons? Or is it possible for the Harmony Polyglot 2 Nodeserver to be added as a home control device such that those buttons can be used? (I currently don't have an RPi, but have pre-ordered the Polisy Pro) Thanks in advance for any replies.

Sorry, just noticed the replies - I usually only check these forums when I have some kind of project/update going on - my conclusion about modifying the fanlincs is basically to not do it. Instead, I have done something else, but it may not apply to others depending on your wiring. In my house I have separate fan and light switches going to all ceiling fans except for one that I installed myself. For some locations, I have just purchased a fan capacitor block from Amazon (about $10) and used it to dial in a single speed that works well and I just use the Insteon On/Off switch to control the fan on and off. These fan capacitors are inexpensive and have multiple leads that you can use to connect up to three capacitance values in parallel. More capacitance = faster. This is a simple, low cost method that works well if you don't really need 3 speeds.
-
Can someone tell me if either of these (Homeseer or GE) are compatible with higher end ceiling fans that come with a remote control? I have been using Insteon FanLincs and they aren't very good. One failed, and the others don't seem well matched to the fan as far as the 3 speeds go. On one that failed, I just wired in a ceiling fan capacitor in-line to the wall switch (Insteon On-Off switch) and was able to dial in a good speed, effectively making this a 1 speed fan. My understanding is that these fans change speeds by changing capacitance values in-line to one side of the AC motor. Higher capacitance seems to make it go faster. So my concern is that these z-wave devices might be trying to control speed via voltage or some other means, so I am not 100% sure they would work. One specific fan model that I am referring to here is the Casablanca Piston ceiling fan. Thanks in advance for your help.
-
To get multiple speeds in the ceiling fans compatible with FanLinc's, you would need something similar to the devices above, but with 2 or 3 AC rated relays that could be used in conjunction with a ceiling fan capacitor. I can't seem to find anything like that. The devices above could only switch a single inline capacitance = 1 speed. I suppose you could use 2 or 3 of the devices in parallel but that = $$$. (By the way, sometimes when a FanLinc fails, I replace it with a capacitor and configure it for a good speed - that is a low cost option that works well if you have separate light and fan wiring).

I placed a dual band on-off module within about 3-4 feet of the door sensor. There was already two dual band dimmer light switches nearby about the same distance and the wireless access point was within 10-15 feet as well. Never received a heartbeat. I even replaced the battery and performed a factory reset. In the meantime, the sensor continues to report closures and openings properly but 6 other heartbeat devices are reporting a heartbeat about 1X per day. Strange problem.
-
OK now I see what you mean I’ll give that a try when I get home thanks
-
Yes I have a lot of dual band equipment - range is not an issue - I started a series of programs to count when heartbeat on or offs are received and definitely no heartbeat in 5 days from the door sensor in question but it works fine for open and close
