  1. That's another argument in favor of installing a hard-wired bridge. Without one, extended messages are single-band.
  2. But the removed devices won't. They'll have to be restored one-by-one. Why not wait until you use/need them?
  3. Which specific SwitchLinc dimmers? No Insteon device that's designed to control a load needs to have the load connected to function.
  4. Electric devices require line and neutral. The line is switched so that the device can be turned on and off (or dimmed). Connect the dimmer load (red) wire to the line side of the transformer.
  5. If the transformer is not expressly designed for dimming using a leading-edge dimmer, then you may destroy the dimmer, the transformer or both. A fire may ensue.
  6. If you mean that the type of device is 5-button, but all 8 buttons are available, then that's OK. What you changed was the mode of the device and not the type of device it is.
  7. I/O Linc
  8. Try an Ethernet crossover cable.
  9. Click on the outletlinc. The right hand panel shows every scene that the device responds to.
  10. None, but Lee probably does. OTOH, a poor connection can take weeks, months or even longer to manifest. Except for the labor, it's a no-cost check.
  11. Try selecting the device from the drop down list using the Insteon ID instead of the discovery method (click on the light bulb icon). Double check the wiring for good, tight connections.
  12. If anything (e.g., device, schedule, etc.) or nothing* Then Set 'scene' [choose something] *if nothing, then you can use another program to run the "Then' part.
  13. Yes. a program can turn a scene on or off or even modify the brightness level(s) of some or all devices in the scene. Action, Insteon Set 'Scene Name' [choose an action]
  14. The garage door operators are triggered by an On signal to open or close the garage doors. In fact, most garage door remotes have only one button, press to open, press to close. The driveway gate motor operates in the same way. The walkway gate uses an electric lock and buzzer which is also controlled by an on-only signal, just like a doorbell push button. So, in each case, off doesn't do anything. Moving away from the Mini Remote, Keypad buttons have the options of Toggle, non-Toggle On and non-Toggle Off. I use some Keypad buttons non-Toggle On for the same gates and doors and use non-Toggle Off to turn lights off only. For example, I have a button in the bedroom that turns off all interior lights except those in the bedroom. I do not have a need to turn those lights all on at once.
  15. Yes. I use non-toggle On to control both garage doors, the walkway gate and the driveway gate.
  16. Double-tap is Fast On, so it will turn the scene on. If you want devices to turn off to a Fast-On, then you'll need a program for On and another program for Off.
  17. You'll need to use programs. A scene cannot send an off in response to a Fast On.
  18. The 8-scene Mini Remote has two modes, toggle where each tap alternates between On and Off and non-toggle On where each tap sends an On. An Off signal is never sent in non-toggle On mode. You can accomplish what you want using two programs, on for On and one for Fast On.
  19. A program can turn off the button LED. Create a scene with only the button(s) as responders. Then write a program that turns the scene off about 2 seconds after the Scene-On command is sent. The 2 second delay avoids signalling collisions.
  20. Yes, you can use a Hub on the same network as the ISY. If you use the Hub only for the camera, then it will not affect the ISY. But, if all you need is an iPhone app to view the camera, then you have many choices. Some free apps have been mentioned and there are other apps that are a few dollars.
  21. The camera includes the manufacturer's WAN access. Info should be on the included disk. But, the free viewers that Jimbo listed will work, too. Here's some help with port forwarding: http://portforward.com/
  22. So, when you said, "Z-Wave support would be a deal breaker for me," did you really mean lack of Z-Wave support?
  23. Mike, If you really do need a security system, then relying only on Insteon devices is not a safe solution. Insteon is meant to be a home automation system and attempting to use Insteon instead of a real security system is false security. OTOH, if you only want/need fun notifications when everything is operating correctly and power is uninterrupted and you never experience internet difficulties, then Insteon devices will suffice
  24. I don't get how adding support for something, even something you don't need or want, would be a deal breaker. Also, how are you able to compare ISY Z-wave support with something Joe hasn't even implemented yet? Disclaimer: I'm only commenting on the statements, not the merits of the ISY or app.
  25. The most common cause for a button to blink is a half-link. That means that the button is linked to a device that has been removed or that it can't reach. Any device that is a responder to or controller of the scene is a link. Run a scene test. Does any device not respond?
