Possible to move Zwave usb dongle from IoX to HA?
asbril replied to DaveStLou's topic in Home Assistant
I just succesfully installed the Zooz 800 stick in HA and also included a Aoetec 700 series plug. It is a different procedure than IoX but I will experiment with it. -
Possible to move Zwave usb dongle from IoX to HA?

What triggered me was the "Use with Home Assistant" and in fact the 800 is a few dollars cheaper than the 700. -
Possible to move Zwave usb dongle from IoX to HA?

I tried.... On the one hand Simplicity Studio clearly shows the Zooz USB, but on the other hand anything I do gives me an error message. I ordered a new (800) USb which is due to arrive tomorrow. Hopefully a new stick will work. -

This is the first time I moved my Zooz stick (previously used on Polisy) to HA. I am not sure what mqtt is but I will remove and re-install. -

I believe that HA recognizes the Zooz stick but I don't know what the problem is and how to resolve it. -
I do not have Insteon, so keep that in mind However, it should not matter if you go through IoX and ISY Portal account. Others may chime in. While I have both Google Home and Alexa, so far I have only implemented Alexa routines.

Yes, I do the same, but the IoX folder system is way more practical. I mostly order my IoX programs by room.

I am trying hard to get a better understanding of HA programing, by watching YouTube videos and other online HA tutorials, but I still find it very complicated. Also, in IoX I can group programs in different folders and I have not found a way to do that with HA Automations. HA's Blueprints are in theory a genius idea, but to find what I look for is not easy and, with my limited understanding of HA's logic, applying a Blueprint using my own Entities has been a challenge. Furthermore, the HA forum, as well as Discord, has been for me far less responsive and helpful than this UD forum. Here when I ask a question, I have a 99% chance that someone will guide me to what I want, but with HA that has hardly been the case. Right now, I am very comfortable having IoX as my core and HA as a complement, but also as a front UI on my computers, thanks to @shbatm 's UD Integration, but for sure I'd like to be more proficient with HA.

I just received this email from Google and I wonder what this means for Nest and IoX. There is a glimmer of hope as it says that they will work with "partners" on replacement integrations. Hi Thank you for being a valued customer and a part of the Nest family. Works with Nest was created in 2014 as a way for other smart home device makers to take what Nest knows and personalize your experience with their products, such as turning off the device maker’s smart lights when Nest detects you’re away. The connected home has evolved significantly since then, and we’ve implemented numerous updates to enhance how you interact with and manage devices with Google Home. In 2019, we made the decision to eventually retire Works with Nest to unify our efforts around third-party connected home devices under a single platform for developers to build features for a more helpful home – with a focus on compatibility, security, and privacy. The goal is to simplify the developer experience and give you more control over how your data is shared. We’re reaching out to let you know that after extending support for Works with Nest for the last few years, it will wind down and no longer work as of September 29, 2023. What this means for you. Through September 28, 2023, all current Works with Nest connections will remain active, and you can continue to use Works with Nest as you do now. In the coming months, you’ll be able to use a script editor to create advanced home automations that will offer new features and capabilities. We’re also working closely with our partners to provide replacement integrations where possible. Learn about the changes and options available to you. Starting September 29, 2023, the connections will no longer work and you will lose access to them. We’re committed to helping you and minimizing disruptions. If you need help, our support agents are standing by.

I find IoX superior to HA as far as programming. Furthermore, other than their forum/Discord, there is no support, so I am not considering moving my Zwave to HA. As long as the integration works, I am very happy with the combination of IoX and HA, getting the best of both. My concern is that apparently the integration largely depends on one person ( @shbatm ) but that is also the case of most Nodeservers.

One way is to create a program without IF and in THEN set variable X to 1, ELSE set variable X to 0. When you have guests you run THEN and when guests leave you run ELSE. In my case, I have a few programs that act on a condition in my Google calendar (using Holidays Google Nodeserver) . In your situation you would create a calendar named " Guests" and in that calendar you would create an all-day event on the days that you have guests. In the Administrative Console, IF Guests Calendar is True THEN Variable X = 1 There are other possibilities.

I have seen two different issues. Initially after migrating to eisy, it happened a few times that eisy would not recognize the Zwave usb. Usually this was resolved after a eisy power cycle. Fortunately I have not had this issue for quite some time now. The other issue that I have seen, including recently, is that after a reboot some Zwave devices show empty in the Administrative Console and then also do not react on a program command. When I click on Query or ON or OFF on these devices, they come back.
-
No.
-
Same as me. I have not had this issue in a while and I don't remember how it was resolved. Sorry not to be helpful. I am sure that UD will follow up on your ticket and get this resolved.
-
Are you on Polisy/Zooz/ZMatter or eisy ? I have had this a few times in the past but not lately. What version are you on ?
-
or you can go to Polisy without Zmatter board and just the Zooz 7 series dongle.
-
Most of us are partisan to our existing setup. The real question is what would we recommend to someone starting from zero.
-
This is an ongoing debate and the concensus in this forum is that Insteon is better than Zwave. I don't dispute this from a technical view point, but as someone who ditched Insteon 9 years ago to switch to Zwave, I disagree that "zwave is a nightmare" . It has its issues but there are many more products and my system works well. We have seen what happened to Insteon recently and we still have to see whether the new ownership will succeed, though I wish it all the success of the world.

@gduprey (1) All tech products have a eol and not surprising that it now happens to isy994i (2) Polisy is still being serviced for time being and upgrade to eisy or ZMatter on Polisy is not (yet) required . (3) Is it not commendable that UD gives us the option of a product with Matter compatibility as well as more power ? If change from ZW to ZY is that big of an issue, then simply stay with Polisy without ZMatter.

The change from ZW to ZY is for everybody. Which 3rd party integrations are impacted ?

For fun I asked Bard (Google's AI) what is the optimum home automation system ? The answer (remember it is a machine's answer) but it is simple and quite well explained : The optimum home automation system is one that is tailored to the specific needs and preferences of the homeowner. It should be easy to use, reliable, and secure. It should also be compatible with a wide range of devices and appliances, so that it can be used to automate a variety of tasks around the home. There are many different home automation systems on the market, so it is important to do your research and choose one that meets your specific needs. Some factors to consider include the type of devices and appliances you want to automate, the features you need, and your budget. Once you have chosen a home automation system, you will need to set it up and configure it. This may involve installing sensors, cameras, and other devices, as well as creating automation rules. Once your system is up and running, you will be able to control your home's devices and appliances remotely from your smartphone or tablet. Home automation can provide a number of benefits, including: Increased convenience: You can automate tasks such as turning on lights, locking doors, and adjusting the thermostat, all from the comfort of your home. Improved security: Home automation systems can be used to monitor your home for intruders and send alerts to your smartphone if there is a problem. Energy savings: Home automation can help you save money on your energy bills by automating tasks such as turning off lights when you leave a room and adjusting the thermostat when you are away. Increased comfort: Home automation can make your home more comfortable by automating tasks such as adjusting the temperature and humidity, and playing music. If you are considering home automation, it is important to do your research and choose a system that meets your specific needs. With the right system in place, you can enjoy the many benefits of home automation.

My eisy does not crash frequently, but occasionally it does. My solution has been to put the eisy on a Kasa switch and then in Home Assistant, or directly in the Kasa App on my phone, I power cycle eisy. It makes it easier and especially useful when traveling.
