Did anyone see this regarding Insteon and Logitech Harmony?
rlanza1054 replied to rlanza1054's topic in ISY994
Hi, Wow, your right, there doesn't seem to be a way to rename it using the App. It can be done for the screen buttons of the Touchscreen handheld remote. I would put in a feature request to Harmony asking for the ability to rename a code without needing to learn it again from scratch. You know I have some of the very old Harmony remotes which used the locate app not this new web based software. I remember in that you could rename codes. If you have that windows application for an older Harmony remote, add the ISY into that older remote, rename the codes, then you can actually import an activity and device using the new web based software. But it would require you to delete your Harmony Link completely, which would remove all settings, when you go to add it back in, the software asks you if you are upgrading from an old Harmony remote. Make sure your old software still works before even attempting this. Granted its work but if you really want this it is a way. Rob -

Hi, Once again, I hit something and lost my entire post to you. So this is the short version. I also have a Harmony Link but don't really use it anymore. I have two Ultimates the versions that come with the Touchscreen handheld remote. You are able to rename the ISY code when added it to onscreen button. So I suspect that when you added Universal Devices (manufacturer) and add the model (just type in ISY994, pick out the correct one from the pop-up). Then add it to your activity, example Watch TV. Don't do anything more to it in the activity. Then go to the Harmony app, which is the only way you can control the Harmony Link, since it's was never meant to be used with a handheld remote. When in the Harmony app, you can add the individual buttons to the Watch TV acitivity on the Harmony app, I think when doing that you can rename the an ISY code. I'll check if possible when using my Harmony app, I haven't done that yet anyway. I was more concerned with the handheld. But if you have a remote that can learn IR commands, use that remote to learn each of the ISY IR codes, then go back into the Harmony setup software and go into the ISY device and go to fix command, and re-learn the command from the remote you just learned the ISY and when you re-learn it you are given the option to rename it. However, I will say that is a lot of work. Let me see what can be done with Harmony app when adding a ISY code to an Activity, I believe you can rename it. As I said, I will try and post another message with results. Rob -
Hi, I understand that the PLM has to contain the links to a device. What I am not understanding, is why when I only have about 20 devices in total and only a few of these devices are linked to something, how could those 20 generate over 600 lines of links when doing the 'Show PLM Links'? Rob

Hi, So your saying that I will not see an option in the Help tab for Automatic Update, until there is an update? So when there is another official update, my current ISY which is running that latest current release of 4.2.30, will then show that option in the Help tab? Thanks! Rob

Hi, Would it be possible for ISY to take those options and separate the actual command so that we can at least try to send a command for example to Blink On Traffic to a device that doesn't have the options. It is either not going to be adapted by the device or it will be. Chances are that the command string is the same across all devices, so the Blink On Traffic setup command is the same variable set to the device whether its the On/Off Module, the Oulet, or even a Dimmer that is not listing it as an available option. Is this even possible? As I stated, I believe all the options that need to be programmed by software only, need to be available to the users of the ISY, otherwise they will indeed have to invest in a HUB or the HouseLinc software and its required PLM (which is not the same as the PLM used for the ISY). Rob

Hi, You think they had the options in an older version of the software? Why would they pull out the options. There are no options for even the Keypadlinc. I only see options for my Micro Switches and the Motion Sensors. And even with the Micro switches its missing 'Blink on Traffic', unless LED on TX is equal to Blink on Traffic. I am assuming that LED on TX is LED on Transmission, not Traffic. I did find one device that has a complete set of options and that was the On/Off Module (model: 2635-222) and I just discovered that the Wall Outlet also contains the full set of options, but nothing else. Here is what it looks like with the full set of options: Rob

Whoops! Sorry guys my dyslexia got in the way, the Insteon Wall Dimmer is 2477D not 2487D! Again sorry for confusing everyone trying to help! Rob UPDATE: In the past I did notice the led much dimmer, I forgot how I ended up getting it back to the default from factory. But it was about a month ago when that happened. I did get the status light to Blink On Traffic using the HIB. But I added it back into the ISY using the remove all existing links, and now the Hub has the device stored but can control it. I forgot to remove it from HUB before adding it to ISY. And I don't want to mess up anything by removing it from the HUB now because I'm not sure if it will clear out ISY link. Its not a big problem, I'll just start over again and this time remember to remove it from HUB first before adding into ISY. Thanks again. PS I do wish that at some point ISY will contain those missing options so we don't have to reply on other controllers for this. As I said, just use Houselinc 'devices.xml' file to get the option info. I'm attaching the current one that I have here if anyone wants to take a look at it to see if it can be read. Devices.xml

Hi all, Well, I managed to setup a single device on the Insteon Hub. I first had unplugged both the ISY and its PLM. I reset my Insteon Hub (model: 2245-222) to a brand new account, Thurssday I had Insteon support delete the existing account so all the devices would be removed if I happened to use the same account. ?I did not want the Hub to contain anything that could mess up the ISY (even though it was turned off) or any Insteon devices installed. I did the Insteon setup from scratch with a new differently named account. That went quickly. I added just one device. I said I would use a brand new unused device, but I needed an option set on an existing device that the ISY is not offering in the options ('Blink on Traffic). I was told to set that option manually from the switch itself but according to the documentation on the Insteon Wall Dimmer 2487D, its only possible to set the 'Blink On Traffic' using "software via a central controller". So some of these missing options will require a Insteon Hub or the HouseLinc (with its PLM), unless ISY updates the database of Insteon device with these options. It should be easy to find out what these older device options have, just download a copy of the 'device.xml' file for the HouseLinc software, all the settings options are in that file. Hopefully, its a readable file by the ISY team. I remember reading that they did not know how to get the option available for each of these older devices. Unless its illegal to read the device.xml file, that's the place to get the info and not have to rely on the users providing the information for each device they need support for those missing options. Anyway, I added the wall dimmer. I tested it to make the Hub was able to turn it on and off. It did, then I ran the Harmony setup software, which they require you to use the smartphone apps, it cannot at present be done with the PC. You can only use the PC software to add the Insteon in the Home Automation section, but after its added you need to use the smartphone's app to set it into an activity. Once your in the Harmony app on your smartphone (apple or android), you edit your activity to control the Insteon device. Since I had only one device, it only showed me that one device. The device was my Livingroom Sconces, you are then asked how you to control the device (light) when the activity is turned on. My activity I used was to 'watch tv'. So when I turn on that activity it will control the light. The options available for that light was to turn it on and at what dim level. And you can say only turn on the light ALWAYS or SUNSET or SUNRISE. The you are asked how to handle the light when you turn off the activity (the tv). I set it to turn off the light. There are no other options. Unfortunately, I did not have any scenes created so I can't comment on how it would handle a scene. Its kind of cool...but.. The bad: You are not able to add the light to a button or screen button. Its not listed as a device. So if you want to change the light in the middle of watching tv, it cannot be done with the activity. You can ONLY from the smartphone app, not the remote, adjust the light while an activity is running but you need to switch to devices in the app. Obviously, people are not going to like that they cannot add the light to a button on the handheld remote. I'm sure Harmony will add these features in the future, they are good about updating the software and adding and fixing the features. You should have seen the Harmony Ultimate with the first version. They have added most of what the users complained about. OK, is this an ISY killer, LOL!...Hahaha... NO way, right now nobody has to be alarmed by it. Is it cool, yes! Will it get better, yes... but it will be years. Rob PS I am glad I tried it. It settle my curiosity! So now what is my plan, to add the ISY stock IR commands to my Harmony, which will provide better abilities than the Insteon integration. I did purchase an ISY with the IRY option. -
Sorry, that is is for the Keypadlinc, not a regular Insteon Wall Dimmer 2487D! Its not available in options. Rob

Hi, I don't seem to find the 'Automatic Updates' that according to the documentation is supposed to be located from the Admin Console under the Help tab? Is it now just automatic and you don't have a choice and the menu option was removed? Thank you! Rob

HI, I've discussed this with someone once. I want a dimmer wall switch 2487D to be set for 'Blink On Traffic'. The dimmer is located accorss the room from where I usually sit to watch TV. I had it set when I was using the Insteon Hub and it was the way I realized I had issues somewhere in the house. When it got set back to factory when I switch to the ISY and added it,there is no way to turn that setting on for this model switch. I was told just to set it on manually from the switch. While that was an OK statement and I was fine with doing that, however the documentation for this dimmer switch states that the setting for 'Blink On Traffic' can ONLY be set via "software or central controller". So then since the ISY doesn't seem to be able to handle all of the 'optional' settings on some of the device, how do I get this setting turned on? Is there a way to push a command to it via the ISY without having it available in options? Can I use my old Insteon Hub (2245-222) to turm on the setting for me without messing up the ISY? Maybe I can remove it from ISY, add it to Insteon Hub, turn on 'Blink for Traffic, remove from Insteon and then add it back into ISY without performing the factory reset? Or maybe do the same procedure using the Houselinc and its PLM? I'm not sure which is the best of the two? I would prefer to use the ISY of course! Thanks Rob

Hi, I was generating a PLM Link Table using ISY diagnostics tool. It goes and does the report as it should. I have able 20 Insteon device in total (maybe a little bit more), I also have a total of about 10 Scenes. My question: Why would the PLM that is attached to ISY have over 600 lines of lnks in its table after the report is generated? Is the PLM storing ever action ever taken in that table? It can be the links to the devices, even if every device is registered 3 times, it still not come to over 600 line items? Thank you! Rob

Probably solved! It looks like from the documentation, that my problem could indeed be the Leviton Decor Switchs and or the way the Micro dimmer was setup in options. The Key Beep setting I thought was only to turn on the bee when touching the switchs on off maually. It actually, might also beep on traffic of any kind, even noise. Rob

Hi, I'm down to one problem that I'm having trouble solving. I've done everthing Steve recommended but still at a loss in how to fix. This issue has been ongoing, I thought I had solved it when I reset everything from scratch. I have a total of 4 micro devices, two micro dimmers (used in the bathrooms) and two micro on/off switch (one in bedroom and one in junkroom). The one in the junkroom had been in one of the bathrooms with that bathroom's motion sensor. I got the micro dimmers for the bathrooms and move the micro switches to the bedroom and junkroom. Everything had been factory reset multiple times after being moved. The first of the problems was that about 11pm almost every night, one particular micro switch (on/off not dimmer); the junkroom, turns on for no reason. I ran all the diagnostic link table reports and found no bad links registered to the junrkoom micro switch that it shouldn't have. Last night I did find one setting not configured correctly which might have fixed it turning on every night, it was set for 'dual' mode, when it was supposed to be in latching mode. But now it just makes a beeping noise almost all the time. But here is something interesting, the one in the bedroom, its led's do not flash, even when I set them to. I'm beginning to wonder if the ISY is actually able to write the changes in settings to these micro switches properly. Maybe its having trouble because they are on the other phase of the electric circuit? Or could the beeping be coming from random noise on the line? All my x-10controllers have been taken out, I think I have one x-10 light switch still installed, but its in a place that very difficult to get to, but it's not a controller, x-10 doesn't transmit only receives, except for the controllers. I do have a regular Levition 3-way switch hooked up to these two micro switches sensor wire, and these two switch have a lighted Décor paddle, when off it lights up, when on the paddle is no lit. Could these paddle lights (I'll assume they are some sort of LED behind the plastic paddle of the switch) be leaking enough juice to confuse the micro switch? I'll try disconnected the switches to see if it makes a difference. I also just before writing this post, removed these two micro switches completely for the ISY, I removed the crosslinks between it and the Keypadlinc that they were with first, them removed from ISY. Then I'm going to factory reset and see if the still beep without being controlled by anything. What else can I try. Thanks Rob PS Because of Smarthome's sale this Labor Day weekend (25% off everything) I am purchasing 2 plain Insteon Wall Switches 2247S and will remove micro switches altogether, if I can't solve the issue.

I should point out that I was always able to control lights with Harmony. I actually own two SmartenIt EZ-UIRT's. Which picked up Harmony Remote signals and passed on to Insteon modules via X-10 protocol. But some of the newer Insteon do not contain X-10 and when I looked at what Smarthome had, the ISY with IR won me over. Also, Smarthome steered me away from getting the IRlinc stuff (I forget the reason) and suggested I get the ISY. The other stuff (IRlinc or SmartenIt) was going to be harder to setup. Even with learning curve I'm involed in presently with the ISY. I did get the top-of-line ISY. I loaded it with everything. Its an ISY994i-ZW-IR Pro. I just haven't set the IR stuff up just yet. That's last one on the to do list. I wanted to get everything working as it should before introducing more headaches to solve. I am trying to do this 'slow' as someone suggested I do. Rob -

Hi, Thanks for the warning. I really just want to see what you can do with the Harmony and the Insteon Hub. I think people might be curious, I am. So here is what I planned on doing to test it out. First, I called Smarthome/Insteon support early today and had them delete my Insteon Hub account. I did that before plugging in the Insteon Hub. I got delayed trying to fix a firmware issue on one of my Harmony Hubs, took the whole day but there support is good. I am going to reset the Insteon Hub to factory defaults and when I do plug it in, I did not want my existing account to put back the devices I had setup before moving to the ISY. So after I do that the Hub should come up clean with nothing on it. I have a couple of modules that I have yet to install or plug in, so they have never been registered or linked to the Insteon Hub or the ISY. I will add only one of those modules to the Insteon Hub only. Then I will setup the Harmony to connect to the Insteon Hub. With the Insteon Hub only having that one module link should be enough to try some of the things that might be available using the Harmony. That should be enough to see how good they did and what is missing. Hopefully, what I'm suggesting won't interfere with the ISY. And to be extra safe, I will unplug both the ISY and the PLM, just to make sure nothing gets written to them, Does this plan sound a reasonable way of test the Harmony and Insteon out without messing anything else up for the ISY? If there is a better way to do this test please let me know. Worst case, I have to factory reset all the Insteon modules, I have made a current backup as well. Rob -

rlanza1054 replied to rlanza1054's topic in ISY994
I just called Logitech today to find out some information on what I needed to purchase. I wrote more in another thread. But here is the short of it: I don't have to purchase one single thing. It seems I already own it! I had pruchased two Harmony Ultimate's that I got about 3 years ago (I purchased it pre-release, a first time user), at the tine each one was $375. So I had spent $750 on a remote control for the TV. I had one in the Livingroom and one in the Bedroom. The actual remote in your hands is not the thing that sends out the IR signals, it comes from the HUB, unless the HUB is down or you set a particular device to use the handheld remote. Since then I added their cheap remote which do not contain a touchscreen and I also purchased the Keyboard, which is a regular keyboard for a PC or Android device (yes, Android has built-in keyboard and mouse support) and can handle Entertainment equipment as well (ex: TV). Anyway, here is what they said, I just need to upgrade the firmware on the Livingroom Harmony Hub, I had done the Bedroom one without realizing it. So I will be doing the firmware upgrade and dusting off the Insteon Hub (model 2245-222) and see how it works. What's great, I was going to spend the $99 just to see what it was about, but decided to call just to verify if I needed anything else. I saved all that money! I'm happy because today I woke up very depressed over how much work I put into the ISY and still have an issue to be solved (which I'll talk about in another thread). I had said, after I get this Harmony working, I will let everyone that cares, know what it really can do and what it can't do. Rob -
Hi, First I apologize if this is already posted or know. I just went to the Smarthome website because tomorrow they will be having the start of their Labor Day sale. The first thing I see is on the front page is an announcement that Insteon can now be controlled by the new Harmony Home Hub! http://www.smarthome.com/insteon-logitech.html Since I am a fan an owner of two Harmony Ultimate's, I mostly likely will invest in the new Harmony Hub, its suggested retail price is $99. Unless I misread, its supposed to work with the Insteon Hub. I'll assume any model for now. But will double check this point. I know the current Harmony, contains the 40 ISY IR codes, but this Harmony Home Hub is supposed to talk to Insteon directly or the Insteon Hub, not via ISY IR or older X-10 codes, since the current Insteon Hub do not contain any sort of IR ability. So the question is, will this new Harmony Hub work with the ISY994? I wonder what abilities it actually has and how you program it. Can it do 'if', 'else'? Interesting? Rob

What is the differene between 'Status' and 'Control' under Conditions?
rlanza1054 replied to rlanza1054's topic in ISY994
Ok, I thought it would be nice for all those that helped me to actually see it working. So I made a fast video for YouTube. Its really just to thank everyone. WARNING: I have a volume locker on my phone and the Camera app triggered it off, so there is a loud beep every few seconds. If requested I will take the video over again. I'm not sure if only watched once its worth it. I will make more videos later. Maybe showing what can be done and how it was done, to help others. What is the differene between 'Status' and 'Control' under Conditions?
rlanza1054 replied to rlanza1054's topic in ISY994
Ok, here are some updated screenshot of how I have those scenes set to right now. This is how everything is set now. It is working as everyone wanted me to have it working. And yes, it seems I've misunderstood the instructions and finally have it the way you wanted me to. I should take a few hours away from this, maybe go back and re-read about scenes and see if I missed how they work. And definately yes, much easier then working with the programs. And its much more responsive than using the programs, everything now is almost instanious compaed to the delay I was seeing using the programs. One thing I that doesn't make sense, was why it took removing the battery and re-inserting to get it to work in the first place? That was strange and should not have need to be done. But maybe something was stuck. Who knows, its working. I also realize that the way its setup now, I can't really use the actual Hallway sensor to perform this off command of the bathroom light. The Hallway light is not set for 'On Only'. I have it set to turn off the Hallway light after 30 seconds. But that's Ok, I don't mind using a separate sensor for the Off command. So here is what I'd like to do now and this should be easy from this point: I want this same sensor to turn off the small bathroom light as well. Chances are that no two people are going to be in both bathrooms at the same time. So the one Sensor should be able to trigger an off to each bathroom. If the other bathroom is off already it should not have any effect for it to receive an off. I can now test it out and see what happens, it will either work or it won't. Rob PS The only planned projects left are: I need to get one more motion sensor for using it with the Insteon door bell kit, I want a motion sensor to ring the door bell. But since I have another apartment door opposite mine (my neighbor's apartment), I am planning on placing a collar around the motion sensor and having the motion sensor pointing downwards from the ceiling. So I would mount it with Velcro (as I have done with all the other MS's) on the ceiling just outside my door. Hopefully it can communicate through the metal door to the two Insteon wall switches that are on walls near the inside of the door (only a foot or two away). That way if someone is standing right underneath the motion sensor which would mean they are standing right at my front door, the door bell would ring. And lastly the end of it all, would be to setup for my Harmony Remote to control some of my devices as I had it do when it was X-10 or programmed with X-10 codes. I noticed there is no way to set an x-10 code on an Insteon device like you could do with the Houselinc software. Doesn't matter, the reason that prompted me to get the ISY was to get back IR support. That was it. All this programming stuff was gravy to me. But now the IR is becoming less important to me. I have a Keypadlinc in front of me now. And if I could have done these scenes like this bathroom on and off thing with the Insteon Hub, there might not have been a need to get the ISY, but now that I have it I want to use it fully. To end this post, I really need to say thank you again for everyone's help, I know this hasn't been easy for any of you. It is much harder to do these kind of things when you can't really see what I am doing at my end, then composing the answer in a way that I understand what you wanted me t do. I really really do understand what I put everyone through. Hopefully, one day when I become good, I will be helping other newbies. Rob -

I am not going to jumo up and down just yet, but someything is working now. I pulled the battery out and plugged it in. Then all of a sudden everything started to work as it should. Here is a screen shot of the setting of the RED Motion Sensor within the scence labeled Off. I'll then ask, what is the difference from property settings when the a Scene is highlighted from when a device is selected from within the Scene. It s show On level adjustments in the Scene properties. And it shows On level adjustments went the device is selected within the scene. And then finally, why did I choose the Motion sensor to be at 0% and not the micro dimmer. Ok, god, really wish there was a video lesson on this stuff. I did not pick up any f this from the manual or the wiki? I really didn't see this stuff. Its good that I finally see what can be done but still done understand making these scene like you have all tried your hardest to make me see and get working. A simple video lesson would have made this all easier. Hopefully, after this someone can put together some of these as video lessons for others and me of course. Ok before I posted this I went back to make sure its still working. And it is, but I am finding if I walk in bathroom and then immediately walk out, the other motion sensor is not able to trigger the off. If I walk in an stay in for about 5 seconds then it works as it should. I am going to assume that there was still some traffic from e walking in, preventing the off to work. I'll set it all settle and see how its working for an hour or so. Rob -
