  1. I never actually timed 'push', I know that it is immediate when making changes from the admin console. I went to the stat and changed the setpoint there while watching on my phone, I have to say less than a second when it showed up. I have to say the only caution would be that there have been quite a few reports of the Honeywell stat losing z-wave communication (open it up and reset the z-wave board to fix) and possibly some quality control problems. I saw these after I ordered mine but decided to go ahead anyway. Both of mine have been flawless for several months and I'm very happy with them. You can look on Amazon if you want to look at those. Second screenshot is of functions available. If AC is in 'compressor protection' delay, 'State' will say 'Pending' (stat says 'wait').
  2. One of the smartest things the Insteon engineers did was to put a terminal strip in that sensor so you can use just the contact without the magnet. I use it like that all the time.
  3. I built an air flow switch from a sail switch from Amazon, cut out piece of a styrofoam plate to increase the sail size and an insteon open/close sensor. It sits next to the return register and when the blower turns on the sail get sucked onto the grill surface. activating the switch. I guess I could calibrate the sail to give dirty filter, but that would be a pain. So it just gives me flow/no flow. Ain't pretty, but it works.
  4. Seems like you could just put a relay in parallel with the reversing valve coil and use a dry contact to indicate defrost mode. An interactive thermostat would be great, but it will probably never happen. They try and keep it simple for the typical consumer, not geeks like us!
  5. Good move, I may actually look into that. The program just looks for the return register flow while the system is running. If not it sends a text and can shut the system down. Right now I don't have it set up to shut down. You really have quite a bit of time. The only time I got the alarm is when the flow sensor signal (open/close sensor) didn't get to the ISY. Imagine that I'm having some intermittent noise problems, bought a few more FilterLincs to add to the collection.
  6. Actually, the damage I was referring to is to the coil. Without air flow it will probably eventually freeze up and, according to my AC guy, can crack the coil. I had a capacitor go out recently in my upstairs blower. It's hard on the compressor, too, but they are pretty robust.
  7. I didn't read every word of every post, but in scanning I didn't see any mention of 'compressor protection'. If you turn A/C off and then on again right away, the high pressures can damage the compressor. That's why thermostats have a built in delay. If one were to use the ISY for control and did not program that in, there could be trouble. I installed 2 Honeywell Z-Wave thermostats and so far have been very happy with them. Setup took a couple of seconds literally for each one. I do all scheduling in the ISY, along with modes (set by state variable) for 'vacation' (out of town, set to 85 and leave it there), 'suspend' (turn off all scheduling), etc etc. Also, the setup in Alexa was a breeze. I also added air flow switches to my return vents, so if the system is running and there is no air flow, I can take action to prevent damage. Haven't done the winter programming yet, but it will be similar, except for the fact that we rarely use the furnace in the winter.
  8. It worked pretty well with regular smoke detectors, but not this gas detector I have. Bummer. The beep is a little different than the smoke detectors and I think the software is not tuned for it. Seems like it would not be that big a deal to record the sound you want it to respond to and use that for the alert. That would be a great feature.
  9. Wow, I didn't realize that, thanks! We have 3 dots, the area I'm concerned about the most is the garage, we will never hear the beeping, even when home, and I want notification when away. Yeah, dots are cheap to add one in the garage and they do have CPI Security skill which may integrate. I'll have to look into it. Thanks!
  10. Update: This guy did not work. It included in the network with 3 nodes: battery level (fine), tamper switch (fine, it worked) and TEMPERATURE? Huh? It registered as a multi-level sensor. It didn't work with my gas detector either, the status LED never changed. The gas detector may not have been the right frequency.to be detected. The sound detector is tuned for fire and CO detectors. Oh well. . . .
  11. I bought two of the Honeywell Z-Wave thermostats. They are not very sexy, and some folks have had problems with them, but so far they have been flawless for me. Integrating them into the system was a snap and the response is immediate. So far so good, I really like them.
  12. Well I agree about hardwired for safety. I designed industrial control systems for many years where it is standard practice to hardwire estops and other safety circuits with relays.
  13. Thanks. I wouldn't use IOLinc. Have not had good experience with them. Open/close is more reliable in my experience. I did find this z-wave sound sensor. Ordered one to try out. https://www.amazon.com/Ecolink-Wireless-Detector-existing-FF-ZWAVE5-ECO/dp/B071Z8NM8N/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=ECOLINK+Z-WAVE+PLUS+FIREFIGHTER&qid=1562363081&s=gateway&sr=8-3#customerReviews
  14. Ok, this house explosion that happened a few miles from me in Charlotte has me even more paranoid than I was before about natural gas. I have seen a couple of threads from a couple years ago about z-wave detectors, has anyone come up with anything else? Or.. . . . is there a device that can send a signal or close a contact when placed near the detector and it listens for the piercing 85 db alarm? I want to be able to get a warning, text, etc. if there is gas before we get home, open the garage door and blow up the house.
  15. Yeah, I think the problem is that the IOLinc is not dual-band.
  16. I have one for my over-cabinet kitches lighting that has had no problem at all. I've tried 2 in garage for the opener and both were unreliable. I guess it's time to buy another case of FilterLincs.
  17. I think I have more Filterlincs than control modules LOL. I have one in front of my garage door opener. I gave up on the IO Linc for garage door control. I just use a standard open/close (using the big contact) and an on/off module with a dry contact relay. The IO Linc was very unreliable, the new setup is extremely reliable.
  18. I'm sure it was in the log at least once, that's how I knew it was at 3 am. I must have cleared the log since the last time it happened, it's not in there now. It doesn't happen very often.
  19. I don't know what it is with that 3 am query, but I have a receptacle that has turned on a number of times. It is powering a heater. I have an automatic 90 minute timeout on the heater for safety, but I don't like it just turning on randomly.
  20. Yuk, probably not a good move. Thanks!
  21. Anybody tried one of these? Compatible with ISY? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Insteon-Motion-Sensor-SkyLink-2420M-New-In-Box/143294600214?epid=10011375721&hash=item215d061416:g:A9wAAOSwZUhc0sFI
  22. Well the Wiki instructions didn't exactly match the Gmail setup (they probably changed something since that was written), but I figured it out and it tested just fine. So I restarted the test program and we'll see how it does! But the sending email address is no longer 'alerts@universal-devices.com' which I had set up in my contacts, it's now my name which is on my Google account. i wonder if I can switch it to the 'alerts' email. . . . Thanks for the tip!
  23. Great, thanks. I looked at the Wiki. Looks pretty straightforward.
  24. Awesome, thanks. So you're saying I should be able to use vtext.com reliably as long as Gmail server is my primary server.
  25. Ok, I'd like to use text, but when I select Verizon text from the dropdown, it just gives me the same thing I'm doing now: mynumber@vtext.com. Is there more to configure?
