How to monitor water temp via ISY and catch more fish!

Yes! Just saw it yesterday on this thread! They look very cool. Are they reliable? -

I just want to get it outside the case to improve the response time. I'll probably just fasten it with silicone to the outside of one of the slots, leads going through the slot. But after logging it last night, I'm not really sure I need to do it. It's a fireplace application. I was only getting a 1 degree process deadband from on to off. I thought it was more than that. -

Yeah I don't have any regular sleeving, so I figure small heat shrink tubing on the leads and may be one larger overall. Just need to make sure I don't overheat the sensor with the heat gun. -

I just want to get the sensor outside of the case to improve the response time. Has anyone tried just using the internal sensor and soldering in a couple of inches of extension wire? Should work, right? -
Ok, so Echo has push notifications now on some skills. Does that mean possibly push notifications for ISY are possibly not too far behind?
-
Yeah my z-wave stuff actually works quite well. It's not as well supported in the ISY, however. I've tried to consolidate as many potential noise generators as possibly behind a number of filterlinc's but I know some are not. I'll probably start with those.

Yes, I agree. I was going to try and get the whole system back up this way, then go back to the original circuit to figure out the problem, but I would just be beating my head against the wall if that problem is affecting devices now. I already eliminated a couple of new things, just need to keep trying. . . .

So plugged the PLM into an extension to an outlet 30 feet away and also plugged in a dimmer module to see if I could configure it. It did configure and was controllable from the console. Now I'm trying a PLM restore and it appears that most of the devices are starting to come in ie, 1010 changing to 'writing' changing to normal icon. And the progress is MUCH slower with many more messages. So obviously something is working correctly. I don't know if is the different circuit or something else, when it is finished I'll move it back and see how everything works. If it doesn't, I guess I go looking. Update: It did not work in the original circuit. Update: No, next step was to go back to the remote circuit and make sure it still works there, which it does. Yay. Link count is now 204, but I don't know if it's done yet. It went to 100% then started over. Of the devices that did not recover, I'm wondering what to do. Another PLM restore? Device restore won't work if the didn't come back in the PLM restore, would it?

Yes, Michel answered right away. He suggested moving the PLM to a different circuit also. I'm going to do that today. This is not my original PLM, it is a replacement.
-
40 is approximately the number of physical devices I have installed.
-
Around 40, not including the Z-Wave of course.
-
Not there yet LOL. It is closer though

Tried new cat 5 cable, same thing. I'm going to move the PLM to a different circuit today and try again. One thing I don't think was addressed is why my radio devices are getting through to the ISY. All of them. O/C sensors, motion sensors, mini-remotes, leak detectors. That signal gets picked up by an access point and/or dual band device, but to show up in the ISY, doesn't it have to go through the PLM? Those signals are getting through to the ISY just fine.
-
Yes, did that on the first replacement, not this one. Going to put the PLM on a long extension to a different outlet as Michel and others have suggested. Unfortunately, my original PLM is on its way back to SmartHome, probably just as well since it was almost 2 years old, but now I HAVE to restore a new one, even if it is just noise.

Or, along the same lines, I have an Insteon Hub, I might plug into the same outlet as the PLM and see if I can set up/communicate with a couple of devices.
-
If someone could do me a favor and tell me exactly what is supposed to happen - what will I see on the console - when I click on Restore Modem. I've never done one before so I don't know. I unplug the PLM I unplug the ISY I plug in the PLM Wait 10 seconds I plug in the ISY Wait a couple of minutes Start the console Turn off the battery devices Click on Restore Modem Then what should I see???? Thanks!
-
Ugh. . . I may do that.
-
The reason I don't think it's massive noise is that mini-remotes that are in scenes control those lights fine. Massive line noise interference would degrade the RF performance, wouldn't it? I've never really been clear how RF and PL work together when one is not working properly.
-
A lot of my single band (radio) stuff is getting through for some reason. O/C, MS. It doesn't bypass the PLM does it? Doesn't the signal get picked up by a dual-band device or access point, then go to the ISY through the PLM?
-
So I've asked this before. . . . does anybody know what a platform error is? ZW008 is a Multi-Level Sensor 6. It happens to be the first item in my device list.
-
I don't see a whole lot of difference from my first replacement modem. During restore it tries to write to device, fails and displays red exclamation. So I guess I'm sitting here with thousands of dollars worth of Insteon junk that I can't get working again. What a waste.
-
Well that was good advice anyway, thanks. I didn't know about that checkbox. Retrying the modem restore now. . . . .
-
Ok, so before I continue. . . I plugged in the new PLM, waited 20 secs or so, plugged in the ISY, started the console. It is now going out to try and communicate with each device, which of course it can't (so it displays the error box), should I let it complete that process or interrupt it to do Restore PLM?
