Apparently, Notifyre touts its self as an alternative. I tried to register, but apparently you need an employer EIN. I think it is geared more towards enterprise. Pushover seems to be the best and most cost effective alternative. 30-day free trial and $4.99 one time license per platform. Already updated my ISY and Elk to use Pushover.

Thanks ATT. This is how I send notifications on certain events (alarm, doorbell, left garage door open at night, etc.) effectively acting like push notifications.

For the record page 386 (PDF sheet 399) has the schematic and pin-out. https://cache.insteon.com/developer/developer-guide-022009-en.pdf
-
Use an ohm meter to compare the pinout of the two sets of DE9 to RJ45 cables. I suspect the new cables are a standard Cisco serial console cable, which is not compatible with the serial PLM, and our mutual friends at the new Insteon don't know or assumed users would know. In which case, you can continue to use the old cables or cut off the RJ45 and re-terminate with the correct pin-out.

@Rapidway Excellent job. Just be careful what you use to control a GD. In my experience, the IO Linc reliability was not sufficient to connect to a GD controller, especially with a wall transformer right next to the IO Linc

Have you confirmed you previously configured the ISY to use a static IP? If so, your ISY has a static IP on a completely different subnet from your new ISP gear. You need to use one of the methods above to change the ISY to use DHCP, or set a static IP, subnet mask, gateway, and DNS aligned with your new ISP gear. If not, have you performed a network scan or logged into your new ISP gear to see what IP address was assigned? Or you may need to clear your Java cache to force the ISY launcher to stop looking for the old IP address.

Or connect up the serial console cable. https://wiki.universal-devices.com/ISY-99i/ISY-26_INSTEON:Quick_Start_Guide Then you can check/change the IP configuration. Personally, I prefer DHCP and use static reservations in my pfSense firewall. Another option would be to connect the ISY99 LAN connection directly to a computer, then assign the computer a fixed IP address on the same subnet. Then you can log into the admin console and make a backup and change IP settings.

Spammers were using bulk email to sms/mms. My guess is ATT is trying hard to detect and block this sort of abuse, which may have the unintended consequence of blocking legitimate use of the feature. We can all thank ATT for releasing all our sensitive information. https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/att-now-says-data-breach-impacted-51-million-customers/

I spun up my own instance of Homebridge and connected it to my ISY, Elk, and cameras. Works automatically! Theoretically is should work with the eISY.

Glad I have a dumb Chamberlain garage door opener. I bought/installed mine in 2009 before MyQ was even a thing. I wired a magnetic door sensor on the door header to an Elk M1 input zone and a relay output soldered to the back of the Chamberlain wall mount controller push button contacts. IMHO, the Insteon garage door kit with the relay module is just too unreliable for anything safety and security related, not to mention the documented Insteon vulnerabilities. I configured the Elk relay output as a momentary output and programmed an Elk keypad function key to toggle the relay and blink the illuminated function key when the door is open. Both driveway and interior garage cameras allow me to confirm there are no humans/pets or obstructions in harms ways before remotely closing the door, e.g. after letting a contractor in. I also use a MobiLinc HD geofence to open the door (if not already open) when I arrive 200m from my house and turn on the exterior lights. You can set ML to not update an ISY variable if the phone is locked to prevent someone who steals your phone from gaining access to the garage. I never perform autonomous automatic closing of the garage door based on time of day or when leaving. Closing is always a manually initiated action performed by a human. Although not stated in Chamberlain’s official statement, it would not surprise me to find out Chamberlain’s lawyers advised them to shutdown unauthorized access to their APIs because of potential liability when someone does something stupid which results in injury or death.

@SSS Since there is no official package for FreeBSD, I suspect it will be awhile. I suggest you spin up a bare metal Linux distro, VM, or Docker container. https://homebridge.io/how-to-install-homebridge

eKepad Pro - migrating ISY994 to eISY - any special considerations?
elvisimprsntr replied to cwagner2401's topic in eisy
I got this reply from Jayson -
In South Florida, momentary (<2 seconds) power interruptions are a common occurrence (weekly), even on clear sunny days. Since FPL installed smart meters, brown outs are extremely rare. When I had the ISY-99(4)i on UPS power, 90% of the time it would lock up. In fact, I actually prefer to see the lights flash off, then back on when the ISY reboots. Let's me know all systems are go. Choose what works best for you.

Detect loss of internet (programming question)
elvisimprsntr replied to oskrypuch's topic in IoX Support
You should consider stepping up an enterprise level open source firewall, which can monitor a WAN connection and failover to a cellular backup if you are having so much trouble with your current provider, and/or switch providers. https://pfsense.org runs on almost any x86_64 hardware, including virtualized. Orders of magnitude more capable and flexible than cheap consumer [redacted] -
I don't have a single program set to run at startup and have all the other checkboxes enabled. Upon reboot, any time of day event driven lights will momentarily turn off, then turn back on.

I have a MeLE 3C running Ubuntu 24/7/375 Keep in mind the finned top is actually plastic, not aluminum. During a momentary power outage, the ISY loses communication with the PLM and frequently locks up. I’ve always found that it is better to not put the ISY on UPS power and just let it reboot.

Looking for 500 series z-wave card for ISY994

Yes, it's a strip of thermally conductive pad for a 2280 M.2 SSD. The OEM MeLE includes it in the box.

So to extend both the USB PLM and USB ZMatter dongle, you add a pair of OREI USB-EX165-K devices, one of which needs to be plugged into an AC outlet, requiring an additional UPS. Seems like it adds complexity and multiple points of failure. Maybe the first step is to "fix" the reason you have to power cycle the Polisy rather than adding a Rube Goldberg (Heath Robinson, for those in the UK) contraption. For example, my ISY994 is powered off a serial PLM. If there is a power interruption, the ISY994 automagically reboots itself, eliminating the need to manually reboot if it were on a UPS and locks up when it looses comm with the PLM.

If you are using the Elk M1, have you considered using Areas? For example: Area 1: First Floor Area 2: Second Floor Area 3: Third Floor Area 4: Garage Then program the Elk to only Arm Area 1 and Area 4 in Stay Modes. Arm All Areas in Away Modes. Prevents tripping the alarm when someone opens a Window when armed in Stay mode.

Unless you have a high end home with a Crestron or similar system, your home brew home automation will not add value to your home. It will actually deter potential buyers who do not want to inherit someone else’s hobby and finicky system. The certification and recertification costs are in the $100,000’s, and recurring license fees on top of that. UDI would never be able to recoup those costs. The “new” Insteon will likely be in the same boat.
-
UDI has already stated the $ to get HomeKit certification is too expensive. The same will likely apply to Matter, which is just another bureaucratic $tandard$ organization. HomeKit support is already achievable via Homebridge or Home Assistant, and does not require UDI to spend any $ to obtain certification. Personally, I run Homebridge on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS on a MeLE Quieter3C. Initially, I ran HB on a Ubuntu VM. Took me a couple of hours over the Xmas holiday. My advice is to roll up your sleeves and dive it.

Assuming you bought the Serial PLM Kit https://www.universal-devices.com/product/serial-plm-kit/ eISY USB-A Port <-> USB to RS-232 Converter <-> D-Sub to RJ45 Adapter <-> Ethernet Cable <-> Serial PLM RJ45
