  1. I didn’t see Thread or Matter listed as supported. Is Hubitat first party only apps/integration? I think I saw some forum posts indicating it’s not likely Insteon will ever be supported directly, which means we will still need a bridge of some sort. I noticed there is an Alexa Homebridge skill, but I have not tested it. Regardless, I’m not planning to invest in any new HA hardware/platforms anytime soon. There are just too many existing players scrambling to stay relevant and new players entering the space who will undoubtedly have some missteps along the way. Matter 1.0 spec was just released with support for a subset of devices. It will be years before next revision of Matter and even longer to see which companies actually survive. Even then, unless it’s a high end home with a high end system, any DIY or cobbled together solution will not add value to a home. In fact, it will likely deter a large segment of buyers who are not technically savvy, or just do not want to inherit someone else’s finicky system.
  2. These are the plug-ins I am using. Unfortunately ISY-NJS does not expose all the features of the Elk, but will not run with Elk disabled. ELKM1 does not support “stay instant” mode, so I run into conflicts between my existing Elk/ISY automations and homebridge, but that may be a limitation of HK only supporting 4 states.
  3. Glad someone else is blazing the trail. Myself, I spun up a Homebridge instance while on vacation and had it up and running in a few hours. I can control everything using my computer, phone, watch, and TV while on my local LAN and remotely from the pub. I only had to set it up once and it was immediately on all devices. Also shared my home with another HA DIYer. It is all done without any port forwarding, VPN, credential sharing, or recurring extortion fee. It just worked! Of course I stood on the shoulders of the Homebridge community to get there, but it is encouraging to see how it all comes together and works. HomeKit seems to be much further along in device type support than Matter and will likely be for a very long time if you look at the Matter spec road map. From what I understand HomeKit is the foundation for Matter after Apple open sourced it in 2019. Some vendors will likely hang on to some more advanced “proprietary” features in order to separate consumers from their coins.
  4. 5.3.4 (Update) for ISY994 (July 30, 2021) https://forum.universal-devices.com/topic/33287-534-update-for-isy994-july-30-2021/
  5. @GeddyThanks for the responses. My current kit is in the the Ron Popeil "Set it, and forget it" state. There is no compelling reason to upgrade, and only adds high likelihood of breaking compatibility with eKeypad Pro, Mobilinc HD, and the Elk M1. At this point in my life, I don't have the time or energy to dedicate to learning and managing another project. I am also faced with the high likelihood that I will have to rip out all my existing kit prior to selling my home after I retire, since no one will have the skills or patience to deal with it. The ISY Elk Module.
  6. I have the same question. I have a 994 running 4.x firmware and the original zwave 400 (?) module. I have been procrastinating moving to 5.x which I think requires the 500 series zwave module. I have have the Elk M1 and ISY module. I use eKeyPad Pro and MobiLinc HD as my primary apps for local and remote access. I think I read the 500 series zwave module are no long offered or available, so I may have missed the boat. For the new Polisy and eISY I think I read there is only a path from the 5.x firmware and I don’t want to loose eKeypad and MobiLinc HD support. What are my options? 1. Stick with what I have and wait for Matter and what ever products to mature before abandoning my current kit? 2. Find someone willing to sell their 500 series zwave module and upgrade to 5.x to prolong my current kit death and provide a eventual upgrade path for what ever comes next?
  7. He’s dead Jim
  8. I despise recurring extortion fees and cloud control. Although I have a Chamberlain GD, it pre-dates MyQ. I have an Elk relay output soldered to the wall unit pushbutton and the magnetic GD sensor wired to an Elk zone input. I use eKeypad Pro and Mobilinc HD for remote access. IMHO, the Insteon GD kit is not reliable or secure enough for premier access control.
  9. I don't have a Polisy, but eKeypad Pro uses a direction connection and does not use the ISY portal that I am away of. Although there are some posts indicating some have been able to gt third party apps to work with the portal. I use the local static (or static lease) IP address or port forwarding WAN IP (thus need a DDNS service since I don't have a static WAN IP from your ISP). 1. Have you tired using the Polisy local credentials and not the ISY portal credentials? 2. What port are you using? Looks like Polisy uses 8443 https://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=Polisy:User_Guide#Polisy_OS_Versions_Below_13 Adding @jaysonc in case he knows of something.
  10. I'll pass on installing anything mmW inside my home. The only exception is if it can be connected to an autonomous paintball sentry to track intruders. Makes police lineup identification much easier.
  11. Might be worth looking up the GDO remote specs for what frequency the transmitters are on I've had problems with GDO remotes and car key fobs during peak solar flare events.
  12. I’ve had issues with cheap LED bulbs affecting my garage openers and causing 60Hz interference patterns in video cameras. In particular, Feit bulbs from HD and Costco. Stick with incandescent bulbs in those situations.
  13. I thought I saw the bridge had WiFi and BT support.
  14. The Nokia products where never made available. Since the Nokia devices support Insteon RF, WiFi/BT it could theoretically support thread and matter, but I believe those require proprietary silicon which would need to be added to the design. That will require more non recurring investment. Matter also requires expensive certification, so it’s not much different than Apple HomeKit and MiFi certification. What ever the new Insteon team does they will need to eventually embrace matter if they want to succeed. The problem is finding the funding when you have no income coming in. They will need more VC investment, who will be looking for a quick return on investment.
  15. Backwards compatible with Insteon RF https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink/topic?share_fid=23986&share_tid=34472&share_pid=324881&url=/index.php?/topic/34472-Insteon-Replacement%3F/page__view__findpost__p__324881&share_type=t&link_source=app
  16. At this point, I'm so disgusted with all the competing standards/technologies and all the competing companies agendas, that I am going to rip out all of my kit and set it on fire. The amount of effort just to do that is what is holding me back.
  17. I'm trying to find a technical comparison between Matter and HomeKit. Seems Apple and others have already been doing a lot to implement all the of the things that Matter claims it will eventually be. Still requires certification ($$$) and licensing ($$$) for manufacturers, which makes it not much different than HomeKit. So is it truly an open source platform? So instead of having one solidified standard, we simply have another standard. Apple was conveniently absent, which makes me think it's a complete waste of time for them. "We have our [redacted] together. Let us know when you do. Just don't steal any of our IP."
  18. Anyone else on the Matter Zoom call? I asked the following question. Have not received a reply yet.
  19. I haven't read any of the detailed Matter specifications, but seems to be very similar to HK. Apple seems to have an advantage in that support for Matter is already baked into iOS 15 as a developer preview. Not sure where Android and OEMs are in their Matter development and support. The official Matter spec has been delayed again until at least fall '22 https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2021/10298/
  20. Some comparisons of Matter vs HK https://www.homekithelper.net/tips/matter https://www.imore.com/matter-faq
  21. Worked for me in Safari PIBKAC or try a different browser https://www.silabs.com/about-us/events/what-does-the-matter-protocol-mean
  22. @asbril I don't use them.
  23. I have 9 residential smokes in my home. NFPA code requires residential smokes to be replaced every 10 years. I can either spend $900+ on overpriced smokes (Nest, Z-Wave, etc.) or $90 on wired residential smokes every 10 years. $810 buys a lot of beer. Just sayin!
  24. I haven’t got one. Are all customers getting them or just licensed installers/ resellers?
  25. @Geddy Avoid like the plague: Any consumer firewall, router, or appliance. Avoid WiFi repeaters. MESH systems will cut your bandwidth in half unless they have a dedicated backhaul channel, not to mention being extremely over priced. I prefer kit that prioritizes function over aesthetics. Firewall: Open source, enterprise class firewall SW from https://www.pfSense.org on an appliance from https://www.netgate.com or https://protectli.com. Access points: Engenius EWS377APv3 or EWS357APv3 enterprise class APs without the enterprise price and recurring extortion fees. Both are rated for up to 1000 simultaneous clients. Both use latest version of Qualcomm's AX chipset. Best bang for the $ IMHO. I have two EWS377APv3 to provide coverage in my three story home with a wired backhaul. Both APs and bands use the same SSID. Clients seemlessly switch between bands and APs without disruption. Rock solid devices. There are many OEMs (Netgear, Pepwave, etc.) that sell the exact same rebranded hardware, but with crippled capability and at higher prices. https://www.amazon.com/EnGenius-EWS377AP-802-11ax-Wireless-Features/dp/B09J9BJCR6?th=1 https://www.amazon.com/EnGenius-EWS377AP-802-11ax-Wireless-Features/dp/B09JB53S9X?th=1 AX DISCLAIMER: Some older clients (printers, IoT devices, etc.) may not connect to 802.11ax APs, even with AX turned off on the 2.4GHz band. I have over 40 (cameras, IoT devices, laptops, tablets, phones, etc.) WiFi clients any only one would not connect to AX, a 20 year old HP Envy printer, which was well beyond it's useful life.
