"...Wemo will bring new Matter products to market when it can find a way to differentiate them." Translation: "...when it can find a way to separate more coins from consumers." Seems like Matter is like 3D TVs of yesteryear. No content, no uptake. No uptake, no content.

I think my PLM just took a dump

Serial PLM with RS232 to USB adapter, or USB PLM? Model? Have your tried to communicate with it using a console or command line tools? -
Issy994 queries to amazonaws.com every minute (Auto DR?)

What version of the Zwave module do you have? The series 300 ZW or 500 ZW+. If it’s the 300 ZW, the highest firmware version you can use is 5.0.16C -
Is it possible eisy is detecting your monitor resolution and refresh rates via the data display channel (DDC), then attempts to enter the highest resolution and rate, but you have a HDMI cable which cannot support that resolution and frame rate? Options? 1. Connect same monitor and cable to another system to confirm what maximum resolutions and rates it works at? 2. Replace with an HDMI cable that is rated for at least the maximum resolution and refresh rate that your monitor supports. 3. Look for a config file that allows you to force it to use a lower resolution and refresh rate.

Seems like the wrong device for what you are trying to do. 1. I assume you have to connect the line and neutral for the device itself to be powered and receive commands. 2. Seems like the device will switch the line voltage to either the up or down wire, which sounds like that is not what you want. I think you want a NO/NC relay module instead https://www.insteon.com/io-module

Just need to restart EVERYTHING - Polisy and PLM
elvisimprsntr replied to kegacide's topic in Polisy
@kegacide I think you need to isolate between the PLM and the various cables/adapters you have tried. Also, since Polisy will also eventually reach a sunset, you might consider migrating to the eISY 1. Perhaps connect the PLM to your ISY994i to confirm it's not the PLM. 2. If the PLM checks good, you might try to build your own DB9 or USB adapter to minimize the number of interconnects and failure points. -
Exactly. There are other signals on the PLM RJ45 pins that carry voltage and TTL level signals which may permanently damage the PLM if shorted out.

1. Purchase a COTS DB9 to RJ45 cable. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08V539JMQ 2. Cut off the existing RJ45 and split the molded jacket 3. Use a Multi-Meter to determine which color wires are connected to which DB9 pins 4. Cut back un-used wires and crimp on new RJ45 connector.

The MeLE unit had the riser and screw installed. The Crucial SSD also came with a screw.

Actually, it’s the 2280. I bought the Quieter3C (USB-C version of the 3Q), installed a SDD, and run Ubuntu on it. The MeLE unit comes with a thermally conductive pad for SSD passive cooling. Not sure if the UDI version includes one. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B25NTRGD

I asked them in January what their plans were to support Matter, and their response was, "We are aware of the Matter standard." Interpretation, "We have no idea and/or plans."

BACKGROUND I have been pleased with my ISY994i ZW IR PRO running 4.9.0. I managed to purchase a used ZW+ 500 module and upgraded my ISY to the latest 5.3.4 firmware. Hopefully, this will provide me a better future upgrade path to an eISY. SERIAL PLM TO USB ADAPTER I have not had any issues with my 2412S (knock on wood), but I thought I would try to connect to a USB to Serial adapter. I had a USB to Cisco Serial console cable I could repurpose. It contains the FTDI FT232 chip, supported by Linux/BSD/macOS/Windows, and from what I have read the same chip in the actual USB PLMs. I just cut off the existing RJ45, split the molded jacket, pulled out the three wires (RX, TX, GND), cut back the un-used wires, and crimped on a new RJ45. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B082VZTB57/ Since I don't have an eISY, I connected the cable to my Homebridge VM (via Proxmox USB passthrough), PLM, and used some CLI tools to control some of my existing Insteon devices. https://sourceforge.net/projects/plmtools/

Given Insteon communication and hardware reliability, or lack there of, I don’t use Insteon for perimeter access control. Especially, controlling something like a garage door that could cause harm or damage. https://www.shouselaw.com/ca/personal-injury/premises-liability/garage-door-accident-lawsuit/

1. Create a program that runs one a day/week and increments a state variable (+=1) 2. Create a second program that triggers when the variable exceeds a value (>n) and reset variable (=0)

Every 12 months I would fire up the coffee pot on a Saturday morning and say to myself, “Comcast, today we do battle!” I had more success with the online chat support in getting the new customer rate. My argument was: 1. Since I own my home, you do not need to roll a truck every 12 months to disconnect and reconnect service at the same address 2. I do my own tech support and inside wiring. 3. I never call for support 4. I pay on time every month 5. I am your lowest cost customer, thus I should get the new customer rate. 6. Any time they would try to upsell me a TV package, I would tell them it’s against my religion. That stopped them in their tracks. Two of the happiest days of my life were: 1. 13 years ago I turned in my cable box. I stood in line at the local office to get a receipt so they would stop billing me. The 50+ other people were there to get new equipment after a lightning strike knocked out their boxes. They all asked how I was getting TV service. I told them I installed a whole home OTA antenna in my attic which receives all the local channels. Most of them were elderly folks who only wanted local stations. I could have made a fortune selling ATSC boxes and antenna out of the back of a van parked on a public road in front of the Comcast office. 2. The day I terminated my Comcast HSI after ATT fiber was installed at my house. I tried to terminate my service on a Saturday, but they said I had to call back during the week. They asked if there was anything they could do. I told them give me a new customer rate. When they couldn’t, I told them I will never use Comcast again as long as I live. They called me a week later to say they just started a new promotion which I was eligible for a new customer rate. I told them, “you had your chance!” When I signed up for ATT fiber, I told them the shenanigans Comcast played and ATT better not play the same games or I will not hesitate to find another provider. They flagged my account and locked my rate at $30/mo for 50 mbps symmetric. It’s been upgraded to 100, then 300 mbps (actual sustained speeds 375 mbps) and never increased my rate.

It doesn’t Matter

Sadly, no concrete plans to support Matter. Insteon will likely be one of those technologies that will be left behind as the rest of the world embraces technologies like Matter and Thread.

How about 1. Add half the lights to one scene. 2. Add second half to a second scene. 3. Set up separate programs to change each scene for each color combination you want.

I have one Wemo HK plug. The QR code is laser etched on the back of the device. Although that prevents loosing a card or sticker falling off, it makes it impossible to scan the code since it needs to be plugged in to actually add the device.

Assign a static DHCP reservation in your router/firewall. If your router/firewall does not support it, buy or build one that does. For DNS/NTP add a firewall rule to redirect all outbound port 83/123 traffic to your own DNS/NTP server. Both are easily implemented in https://pfsense.org
