  1. Another former Microsoft executive sent in to "save" the business. Confirms Microsoft execs don't know how to run a hardware business.
  2. @Westlake Ventures Sounds like the previous owner hard coded the ISY IP address, or new router is on a different subnet and was assigned a different IP address. https://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=Resetting_Your_ISY
  3. SLabs could have done the decent thing and open sourced their IP, but that would require someone actually having integrity.
  4. SmartLabs Redesigned Devices. All were FCC approved in 2020. https://fccid.io/SBP All the FCC documentation photos look identical to the devices listed here https://nokia.smartlabsinc.com/collections/nokia if you look at the users manuals, it is stated backwards compatible with legacy Insteon devices, but with caveats You can clearly see an Insteon ID under the QR code The new bridge contains Insteon RF in addition to 2.4 GHz WiFi/BT. No power line built in. SLabs did redesign the PLM in 2019, but was it ever made available? (2234-222) I came across some dead links which reported to announce the existence of a new PLM https://forum.insteon.com/forum/main-category/new-insteon-device-wish-list/110059-new-advanced-plm-in-the-works If I had to speculate, I would say that the new Bridge/Devices are only compatible with Insteon RF, thus the reason for the compatibility disclaimer. The question is, will these devices ever come into existence?
  5. In a possible dystopian future, you will be glad you have manual windows and a carbureted engine.
  6. Thanks for all the replies. Insteon had a good run. Time to move on. Already replaced my fail[ed/ing] Insteon devices with dumb switches I had stashed away.
  7. Excellent and thorough post! I only have a hand full of Insteon switches/outlets/keypads/fanlincs in specific locations. Option 6 is what I am going with. Replace with dumb devices as they fail. For the handful of lamps I have on controls, leave connected to Insteon plug-in modules and replace with non-Insteon devices as they fail. No more hard wired smart devices! I'll keep the Elk M1, since it still functions without Insteon. As you said, Insteon had a good run.
  8. Thanks. 6. Dumb switches as devices fail. Unfortunately, I installed all my original dumb decor devices in my parents home before they sold it.
  9. Happy Holidays!Sad to see the state of Insteon and how SH seems to be running the company/technology into the ground. Too bad we all hitched our wagons to Insteon. Just wanted to get your thoughts on the future of Insteon and what platform we should be moving towards. I have a couple of devices that failed and need to be replaced, but I don't want to sink any more $ into Insteon if SH is going to abandon Insteon.Should we be moving to a more large scale technology that is more widely commercially available from Lutron or Leviton?1. Connects or integrates with the Elk M1?2. Anything that integrates with HomeKit?3. Powerline or RF (Zwave, Zigbee, WiFi, etc.)?4. Hub and Controllers that support both Insteon and replacement communication so we can migrate over time, or just dump Insteon and possibly get some $ from selling our existing kit. 5. A platform that will add better resale value to my home? (I don't think someone wants to buy a home with an obsolete and finicky technology.) 6. Or just dump smart controls altogether and install dumb switches?
  10. Performed a manual backup, manual upgrade, then went to manage modules which prompted me to remove the climate module. No observed issues.
  11. The 4.x.x firmware not 5.x.x. Been running Catalina since the first beta
  12. No issues here, but then I am still running the 4 branch ISY.
  13. I think the siren and flashing light are for people with disabilities, not to chase away animals.
  14. Seems like your setup is not UL or code compliant. You have been advised. https://www.cepro.com/article/potential_legal_liabilities_for_integrating_garage_doors_with_home_automati
  15. Non dimmable CFLs or LEDs on dimmer module can cause that. I’ve also seen when CFLs start to fail. Look for carbon buildup on at the base of tubes and base is hot. I’ve seen unreliable Insteon communication when CFL start to fail, which clears up once I replace the offending CFL. Now that LEDs have come down in price and reliability has improved, I’ve been slowly replacing CFL with LED. Also swapping out dimmer modules for relay modules. Only dimmers modules are on dimmable LED floods, which basically eliminate the heat load in a room vs a incandescent.
  16. I moved my GD control/status from an IOLinc to an Elk relay output and zone input. The IOLinc has a high failure rate and random all on events people have reported make the IOLinc not suitable to control something which could cause damage or personal injury.
  17. Then explain to me when I simply shout “Hey!” within range of the Echo that I see lots of new packet traffic from the Echo to Amazon. Perhaps it’s a failover strategy if the Echo can’t determine on its own if that was the trigger phrase. Apple poked at Amazon on stage at WWDC over this.
  18. Good decision. Has anyone else run Wireshark and watched the traffic from the Echo? The Echo, likely the Show as well, does all its voice recognition on Amazon servers, even the trigger phrase. That means all sound above a threshold is sent to Amazon. This eliminates the need for those three letter government organizations to perform a black bag operation on your home to install wiretapping devices. Not sure how Google Voice is implemented. Apple devices perform speech recognition locally on the device when they switched from Nuance to their own home grown speech recognition many years ago.
  19. The IOLinc has a high failure rate and exhibits unexpected behavior which can cause your garage door to randomly open or close. I use the Elk output 3 and a zone input for status.
  20. Mobilinc Connect and ISY Portal are mutually exclusive. Head to Mobilinc topic for news on google home support.
  21. Apple pays me to use their products, paid with profits from investing in Apple stock. Full disclosure, I also own Amazon and Alphabet.
  22. Google trying to undercut Apple's rumored smart speaker? We'll know more in about 1 hour.
  23. I replaced my chime with an electronic one which has a RF button I placed at my back door and has a different chime. I also use an ELK-930 doorbell detection module and wired to an Elk input. It's designed for use with solenoid chimes, so you will multiple threshold crossings while the chime melody is playing. You can make it work If you set a virtual output in and include in you Elk rules of statement to trigger an action only once for the duration of the melody. Before wiring the 930 directly to the Elk, I wired the 930 to an IOLinc input and wired the relay output to the RF button. I could remotely control my door bell without any trouble. I stopped using the IOLinc because of the high failure rate of the device and for other reasons I was able to free up an Elk zone input. For smoke/co detection, I went with a Kidde RemoteLync detector, which works with any smoke manufactured since the 70's. It has IFTTT support which I can use the maker channel to invoke any ISY action or program.
  24. I can already do the same thing with a repurposed iPad and Siri. And with Homebridge (aka HomeKit) Siri can already control my ISY, Elk, and view cameras. Even remotely and on my Apple Watch. I'll wait to read actual customer reviews and see if Apple launches a similar product at WWDC.
  25. Will there be a developer SDK for native apps or the same skills as existing Echo?
