We have an very large property that spans 3 building on 2 transformers and generator.

Things work great for the main house and 2nd house but not for the 3rd house, it is not stable since it is on a diffrent transformer. could I register a 5 button device to 2 different isy controllers. Would it even work.

I have very close rf devices where it should make the hope between the 2 buildings but it does not always work.

Hi Elburn,

Unfortunately you cannot register the same device into two different ISYs. On the other hand, you can use the Network Module to have one ISY sent network commands to the other ISY. This said:

a. Both ISYs should be on the same network

b. The scenario you are trying to implement should work outside of INSTEON

With kind regards,

Most curious on this, I was thinking that the ISY could not listen to other "networks".

But maybe Michel means using the rest interface in the network module to send the rest command to the other ISY, that would work if the ISY can set it's own rest commands.

Sorry a lot over my head

Buy a 2nd ISY 99pro with PLM

Plug it into the house wifi and wireing I am having problems in.

Where do i configur the 2 isys looking at each other.

Hi Elburn,

That's why the first requirement was:

a. Both ISYs should be on the same network

You have two choices:

1. You can run RJ45 wire from your router in 1 to a switch in 2

2. You can use WiFi access points in bridge mode. This means that your access point in 2 MUST BE able to see your router in 1

With kind regards,

Michel

And I would run the wire myself. Wifi is just not reliable, certainly WAY less reliable than the ISY itself.

You might get away with IP or 120v bridges to bring the network to the other building, but with the building have a different transformer, probably not.

Can not do wire as we have fiber optic building to building due to lightning.

Main house has the router.

Then we convert to fiber then go to the other houses another fiber to network converter, then a cisco switch. Would this work

as long as they are on the same subnet and can communicate with each other it won't matter the physical or wifi connection between them.

If they are not on the same subnet, then perhaps a static route in the routers would solve the issue of the two talking to each other.

Wifi may work great for you, but in my house, it's a constant battle to get strong signal and keep it 100% of the time.

Slowly deploying Ubiqity nodes around my house and outbuildings to bring a whole mesh network up so I can have wifi over the whole property (it's not that big, but steel siding and alum siding do a great job of blocking wifi strength)

Sorry to be so confused.

I buy another isy 99ipro with the PLM

I plug it in the building and network switch that I am having probs with.

I Remove all my devices from the ISY that are sort of working with the ISY in the main house and register them to the new ISY in the guest house.

I looked over the white papers on REST programming and it is way over my head. Is the next step to configure the 2 ISYs to talk to each other fairly simply.

Thanks for your help

Two ISY devices are not configured to talk to each other in the sense you are thinking about. Each ISY could have the Network Module used in conjunction with ISY Programs to send IP messages between the ISYs that contain REST commands to tell the opposite ISY whatever information you want to communicate.

You will need to understand how to use the Network Module and how to use REST commands. Keep in mind one ISY knows nothing about the other ISY beyond the fact that it is sending IP messages to some other device on the Network. Those IP messages could just as easily be controlling an IP camera as sending information to another ISY. This is much more complex than just installing two ISYs.
