Michel Kohanim Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Hi Drew, Can you query any of your devices? With kind regards, Michel
andrew77 Posted November 5, 2013 Author Posted November 5, 2013 I'll try when I get home. I don't think so. When I query a device with a red exclamation mark it doesn't refresh and the red exclamation mark stays there. Drew
Michel Kohanim Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Hi Drew, Then, most probably it's either the PLM or one of those SWL v35s (if you have any). With kind regards, Michel
andrew77 Posted November 6, 2013 Author Posted November 6, 2013 Hi Michel; None of my programs are functioning. If I remember correctly I had this exact issue before but for the life of me I cant remember What we did to fix it. Any last thoughts before I order another PLM? (The last time my 99i stopped working and I got the 994i) I believe the 994i is still working properly. Is there a ping or scan that I can do to ensure its the PLM and not anything else? Looking at my ISY GUI either the devices have red exclamation marks beside them or they constantly have "writing updates to devices" green arrows besides them (and I cant make them write the updates) Still dead PLM? if so, is this the one I want? It's different than the one I have now. I'm assuming its just improved? http://www.smarthome.com/2413U/PowerLin ... and/p.aspx PowerLinc Modem - INSTEON USB Interface (Dual-Band) Item# 2413U Drew
Michel Kohanim Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Hi Drew, You need 2413S (not 2413U). Before ordering, please query on a device while you have Event Viewer on (level 3). Do you get an INST-ACK for each INST-TX? With kind regards, Michel
andrew77 Posted November 7, 2013 Author Posted November 7, 2013 i queried a SWL that had a red exclamation mark beside it (one of the cant communicate errors) Here's the result. Let me know how I should proceed. Michel Kohanim Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Hi Drew, it looks like the PLM is dead. With kind regards, Michel
andrew77 Posted November 7, 2013 Author Posted November 7, 2013 I will order a 2413S tonight. Thanks for the help everybody. Sorry if it turned out to be a bit of a runaround over a blown PLM. Drew
Brian H Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 If the PLM is less than two years old. You should be able to get a warranty replacement. We have lately seen reports of PLMs failing in sometime less than a year.
andrew77 Posted November 7, 2013 Author Posted November 7, 2013 This is the first PLM that has failed for me. I don't even think I could hazard a guess. I'll keep that in mind though, thank you. Drew
andrew77 Posted November 7, 2013 Author Posted November 7, 2013 I have a 2413S on the way. Is it possible to restore the PLM? If I do and it doesnt work, would I lose any functionality I have now? Drew
Michel Kohanim Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Hi Drew, 1. Make sure you have a good backup 2. Make sure you follow these instructions to the dot: http://wiki.universal-devices.com/index ... _.28PLM.29 3. If you have newer devices, then Restore Devices might be better than Restore Modem. But start with Restore Modem With kind regards, Michel
andrew77 Posted November 8, 2013 Author Posted November 8, 2013 I tried a restore PLM. Nothing. Everything has red exclamation marks beside it. Scenes still work but programs and timers and alerts don't. I should have my new PLM next week. It cant get here soon enough. Drew
andrew77 Posted November 19, 2013 Author Posted November 19, 2013 Replaced PLM. So happy I'm not seeing a million 'can't communicate' errors. I did have trouble communicating with a KPL but I airgapped it and it seems fine now. I noticed the new PLM doesn't have the three prong plug anymore? And it doesn't power my ISY. Good thing I could find the ISY adaptor it came with. (Is there a different PLM I should have bought or is this the way it is now?) Just asking Drew
Xathros Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Thats how it is now. When Smarthome moved to a dualband PLM, we lost the passthrough outlet and the power supply is now used to power the internal radio rather than passed out to the serial interface. -Xathros
andrew77 Posted November 19, 2013 Author Posted November 19, 2013 A small power bar will fix the situation. Its a better PLM as far as I can tell. I know I was using a failing one but this one seems faster as far as adding devices to scenes etc… in the ISY GUI Drew
Xathros Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 I suspect its not that this one is faster as Insteon comm speed are dictated by the 60Hz timing of the AC sine wave. More likely, this one is sending stronger signals or is better at receiving weaker signals which is in turn requiring fewer or no retries than you failing PLM. -Xathros
