Re-Prompted to Login

Just started about 2 weeks ago... I connect to the admin console of my ISY994i/Pro, I enter my username and password. About 2-3 seconds later, the icon bar on the top goes grey and I get re-prompted to enter my username and password? Sometimes, I get prompted a 3rd time?

In addition, after the 2nd or 3rd prompt, sometimes the icon bar stays greyed out and I can't do anything. Restarting the browser will usually correct, but not sure why this started about 2 weeks ago?

Using: latest beta version

Browser: Chrome

I have tried to clear browser history and java cache, but that didn't help... any thoughts?

I suspect an issue with Firewall and/or Antivirus. Likely an update applied a few weeks ago changed something. Try temporarily disabling your AV/Firewall and see if the problem is resolved. If so, you will need to add an exception for the ISY to your software.

Disabled AV and Firewall. No change. I'm using Windows 7.

I have one computer that doesn't give that issue. I think the key is: No sync enabled on that one for chrome. I suspect the sych between computers/chrome stuff is the cause of the issue. Haven't tested yet....

I have a similar issue with running Windows 8.1/IE 11.

I've never seen the browser lock up like Clarkes71, but I *always* get 2 login prompts (I don't believe I've ever seen 3).

Currently running 4.1.2, but I believe I also saw it with 4.1.1. And I believe I'm on the latest Java (51? Not at home right now, will check later).

I have disabled the chrome sync, reset all settings and still get the same result.

to recap:

Windows 7

Java 51

isy 4.1.2

disabled anti-virus

disabled firewall

disabled chrome sync - reset settings - cleared all history data

cleared the isy cache (not sure what is stored there)

Running out of ideas?

I find the same multiple login if I run the java shortcut directly with the same versions as above. This started with 4.1.2 and the Java 51 update for me.

If I run this one "ISY admin.jnlp" the problem is very infrequent.

I also notice the admin panel hangs if I leave it minimized for more than a few minutes and there is no way out of it except to use and kill the process in the task manager.

Michel,

First - I tried to use https and still get the double login prompt.

Second - I tried to turn off the Windows firewall and still get the double prompt.

I have no anti-virus software install or third party firewall.

Not sure what changed or what is different about my configuration? Strange as it just started about 2-3 weeks ago.

Hi clarkes71,

Unfortunately you cannot really disable firewalls. Do you have any other firewall above and beyond regular Windows?

The problem is this: The Admin Console subscribes to ISY. Once subscribed, ISY sends a heartbeat to make sure the Admin Console is still listening. If there are any programs (such as firewall) which block ISY to publish events, ISY expires the subscription and that's why you see the double login.

Question: once you login the second time, does it continue having the same problem repeated over and over again?

With kind regards,

Michel

Just chiming in to say I get that often as well. I also need to re enter my login more than once. Usually it will work fine after the third time. I noticed it happens more when I log in to the admin console then directly go to the programs tab. I will most likely get at least a second prompt if I do that. It doesn't happen all the time but I got it on different computers.

I have seen quite a few references to this problem on the forum and every time, the answer provided highlight the potential cause being a firewall. I do not really believe this theory as it works fine after the second or third attempt. If it would be the firewall, it would re prompt for login all the time. But after I login twice, I can go as long as I want playing in the admin console and I will never get another prompt. So I think this problem should be looked at from another angle as the firewall theory, although it might be the cause in some cases, does not seem to apply to the particular case we are exposing here.

Hope my input will provide valuable info that can help address this issue.

Thank you.

Hi clarkes71, thank you. Can you please tell what URL you use the most to access ISY?

Hi kaphely, thanks so very much for the feedback and I do agree and we did spend quite a lot of time trying to find the root cause. The major problem is that for some reason the Admin Console is NOT responding to ISY and then ISY assumes that the Admin Console is no longer there.

The program tab hypothesis might be quite interesting since the UI might be too busy to respond to ISY.

In all cases, I do agree that we should pay a closer attention to this issue and find a satisfactory resolution.

With kind regards,

Michel

At one time, I believed it was related to opening the program tab also, but I did a bunch of testing yesterday ... and I don't believe that is true. I can open the console and not touch anything and it will still happen for me.

I use "http://isy/admin/jnlp" to open the console.

I'm okay with connecting to admin console using http://ipaddress/admin.

Not sure why it wouldn't work by dns name.

I have never seen Windows 7 block anything when the firewall has been disabled, no anti-virus, no ipsec, vpn or other third party firewall installed.

No worries, as long as there is a solution :D
