ISY 94i vs PLM

Yesterday I replaced my Verizon modem with a new one. I went into the ISY to update the remote connection information and all seems good. Later in the day, I logged in remotely and I could see the devices but  it did not report the status correctly and I could not operate them. So I logged in to the Admin Console and got error messages about it could not communicate with the devices and it was probably the PLM. Also, my programs did not show. I unplugged the PLM and rebooted the ISY and it all worked again. Today I logged in remotely and problems. It reports the status ok but it does not operate the devices. Again with the Admin Console, the error messages and no programs.

So I'm not sure if it is the PLM or the ISY causing the problems. How can I verify operation of the ISY? Assuming it is the PLM, why wouldn't the programs show up in the console?  And, are these problems just a coincidence with the modem replacement?

Thanks for the help?

Did you look in the Tools Tab, Diagnostics, PLM Info/Status choice and see if the PLM is detected?

If not I believe the ISY99i goes into Safe Mode and Admin Console may not show everything.

Did you power on the PLM and let it settle for a few seconds. The power up the ISY99i?

If you still are using the 2412S PLM then both power up at the same time as the PLM powers the ISY99i.

2413S PLM have earned a reputation as failing shortly after the two year warranty and there are even a few  threads here on them failing and repairing them.

Thanks for the reply. I unplugged the PLM and the ISY for about a minute. I plugged the PLM back in and waited a minute, then plugged in the ISY. I logged in the console and it said it could not communicate with two of my devices. It went through a system busy thing with a message "may not support i2 reverting to i1".  My programs came back but not the two devices.

Is this a PLM problem?

There is a 22% off sale starting tomorrow. Including Insteon Modules. With some exclusions on some Insteon Modules.

The 2413S should be OK for the 22%  off sale as it was not on the list.

Ok, I replaced the modem at a discount price ( thanks Ravedog). I can control everything from the console and remotely but now my programs don't work. Does anyone have a fix?

The PLM fix listed in another thread on here seems to work.  If you like that sort of thing, you can order the parts and fix up the old one as a spare.  Because your new one is probably going to die 26 months from now.

The PLM is still a baby. No need to scare the poor guy already LOL!

You followed the replace PLM via the wiki?

Yes, I did.

It does not communicate with my Remote Lino 2440 or my MorningLinc door lock. Should I delete and reinstall these two devices?

When I go to programs, select a program and click on "run then" nothing happens. I look at the device in the console and it says it should be on as requested but it is not on. Do I need to redo all of the programs? I created a new program and it ran on schedule. I'd rather not have to redo all of the programs though.

Are you sure those two devices got updated when the new PLM was replaced? Any green pending write icons or red exclamation?

You could also do a quick delete of one device and add it back in and also add it back to the program(s).

Did you reboot the ISY a few times just in case?

Up to you to delete and add the remote back in and see. That lock is a real [censored] to deal with so I would wait till one of the others who have one chimes in.

Put the remote in linking mode then right click the remote in the console and select write updates.  When that completes, take the remote out of linking mode and test.

What is the lock?

No time like the present to get your backup working.  It really sucks when your PLM is down and you have no backup and have to wait for a new one to get shipped out.

My old one is back up and running for almost a week now after replacing the caps.  I guess I can probably take it offline and put it away waiting for the inevitable failure of the brand new one 2 years from now.  Or maybe I'll put the old one with new caps into service and put the new one away as a backup.  My suspicion is that the new caps, being of higher quality and better specs, will last perhaps as long as the ISY and my Insteon setup in general.

I believe that is really the only true way to test the device. If you're up to it deploy the refurbished PLM and report back how it behaves over the long run.

I know a few people have done this cap replacement but none of them thus far have placed it in rotation and use it as the primary PLM for the Insteon network.

Long term use and trial means a lot to the whole group!

I know, but it is kind of a big deal to go through the extensive re-write of all the links.  I have it running my old isy99 at present, but both the isy and the plm are fresh factory reseted and not actually tasked with any insteon traffic or links.  None the less, the plm/isy are linked.

Oh I know its not a small ask!

Maybe the next guy will be the guinea pig!

Somehow, I got most of working again. The MorningLinc for my door lock didn't get restored so I deleted it to start fresh.  I plug in the address and select MorningLinc under device type but I get an error message saying it can't be added because it cannot determine the Insteon engine.  I even put the Morning Linc in the set position to link it but no luck. Now what?
