andrew77 Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Hi guys I had this issue a few years ago and had bookmarked the posting that solved it. I can't find it with the new forum. Don't understand why. I had a power outage and now my programs don't work. I restored a KPL and the scenes work in that KPL. Do I have to restore every KPL and swl? For some reason I remember the solution and being easier than that. Drew
LeeG Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 It is more likely the PLM has lost its link database. Try File | Restore Modem (PLM).
andrew77 Posted September 29, 2014 Author Posted September 29, 2014 Hi Lee; This worked perfectly except for one KPL. I tried to airgap it and nothing. Right now it doesnt work the load its attached to. On the GUI I'm getting a "Cannot communicate" error Any thoughts before I buy another and replace it? Drew
LeeG Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 A device that will not operate the load connection is likely defective. Sometimes a device will come up with odd behavior after a power drop which requires a Factory Reset. I had a KPL come up with 4 buttons On, the buttons would not change when pressed, and the physical load would not turn On. It is an old device with an air gap switch with a broken tab. Was going to order a new KPL but before I did power went down for an hour. When power came back the KPL is functioning fine. I suspect a Factory Reset would have cleared the issue if the air gap tab was not broken. When a Factory Reset does not clear the problem I would replace the switch.
andrew77 Posted September 29, 2014 Author Posted September 29, 2014 Thanks again Lee. I had to do a factory reset. I shouldn't be surprised as its probably the oldest Insteon device in the house. Now to reprogramming it to the way it was. Drew
Xathros Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Now that you have factory reset the device, find it in the ISY tree, right click and select restore device. That should get it back to where it was. -Xathros
andrew77 Posted August 24, 2016 Author Posted August 24, 2016 I had this same issue again. I went to File | Restore PLM and it tells me Failed resetting The PLM -200000/-30 At first I thought it said something about my network Should I unplug the PLM or something? I'm assuming not as the issues happened after a few power outages. Drew
Michel Kohanim Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Hi Drew, If you cannot control anything, then unplug the PLM, wait 1 minute, plug it back in, go to Admin Console | Tools | Diagnostics | Show PLM Status/Info. If it says Disconnected, then the PLM is dead. With kind regards, Michel
andrew77 Posted August 28, 2016 Author Posted August 28, 2016 Hi Michel; I'm assuming the PLM is dead as it didn't connect after I tried what you suggested. Anything I should know before I order a new PLM? I've backed up my ISY. How does one go about replacing a PLM with a new one? Drew edit: I believe I need this unit? INSTEON Dual Band PLM Serial Interface as opposed to this? INSTEON PowerLinc Dual Band USB PLM Modem
stusviews Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Yes, you need the serial and not the USB modem. Here are the instruction to replace the PLM. Follow the instructions exactly.

andrew77 Posted September 5, 2016 Author Posted September 5, 2016 Hi guys; I followed the instructions to the letter (for replacing the PLM) and my programs and timers are still not working. Do i reboot or something? Drew
stusviews Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 Yes, rebooting often helps (Configuration, Reboot). Did you get all the device and scenes back? Do they all function correctly?
andrew77 Posted September 5, 2016 Author Posted September 5, 2016 The devices and scenes never left. My issue was I couldn't run programs or timers. I could trigger a scene with a KPL button but if I had a program run off a double tapped SWL or a KPL button it wouldn't run. I'm also noticing that some devices aren't being recognized by the ISY. (a SWL in particular) Where do i find Configuration, reboot?
stusviews Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 Left side, near the top. When you replaced the PLM and did a Restore Modem, did the ISY reboot on its own?
andrew77 Posted September 6, 2016 Author Posted September 6, 2016 I have to assume it rebooted. It took a while for it to get to 100% I'm rebooting it again to see if it works. Drew
andrew77 Posted September 6, 2016 Author Posted September 6, 2016 Same. I did notice a timer came on and I received an email notification that it did so. But programs aren't running yet. I'm also still getting a com failure with a SWL that's never given me an issue before. (Its a newer device as well) Should I start 'restoring devices' or something? (I hope replacing the PLM wasn't a waste of money)
stusviews Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 Select one program that uses a device as a trigger. Does the program run if you manually turn the device on? Does the ISY update the state of the device? Right click on the program name and select Run Then. Do the Then statements execute? (3 separate questions)
andrew77 Posted September 6, 2016 Author Posted September 6, 2016 The device itself doesn't run the program (the KPL LED flashes) The ISY doesn't update the status Right clicking on the program and running the 'Then' works and changes the status to true. hopeful...
stusviews Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 It seems that all devices links did not completely restore. Try Restore Devices. That will take a while. If you have an ISY Pro, then turn off automatic writing to battery powered devices. (Near the top left, rightmost image below Help)
andrew77 Posted September 6, 2016 Author Posted September 6, 2016 I let Restore devices run last night. Still no luck. Do I need to go through and reprogram everything again? Also, the ISY still doesn't see the SWL i mentioned earlier. Drew
andrew77 Posted September 7, 2016 Author Posted September 7, 2016 If I have to reprogram everything Let me know. I'm not opposed to it but it would be nice if there were a quicker fix
stusviews Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 Starting from scratch can be tedious. You might want to contact support.
