Teken Posted December 9, 2014 Share Posted December 9, 2014 There is a current KS project under way for a new two piece system that can monitor the flow of water, temperature, humidity, and also open / close the main water line.This device does NOT require any plumber or cutting of the water pipe. It is the closest thing to plug and play I have ever seen in the market. Many of us have tried very hard to integrate the water monitoring into our system. Keeping in mind this is literally a plug and play a fair. Every water system would have a transition from copper to PEX where the main line enters and to the actual meter. The reading sensor just straps to the side and reads the magnet flux of the internal magnet to determine the amount of revolution from that little spinner dial. I have already asked they have a direct access API from the cloud, make it 3rd party friendly, and also have a 5 volt pulse output so it can be used in other devices. Lots of them completed the funding, pledges, whether they sold more afterwards is unknown. Most are sold online in house it use online presence like Amazon. I stressed its great that the information is in the cloud but many of us want direct control over our data and have the ability to manage and push / pull it to other services / devices. While I can only use the watermeter portion, I would love to know my water usage, especially as sprinkler runtimes are tweaked. Then, have usage data sent to syslog on a regular basis. I hope to see more information about the API access. Remember, for those interested you can purchase just the sensor which reads the water consumption, temp, humidity, and records all the information which can send alerts etc. The actual shut off valve is just the second part which only make sense if there was a leak the system could turn on / off the valve remotely or based on threshold / schedule. That's great to hear and please do spread the word via Face Book, Twitter, or any other forums you're a member of. I am currently in talks with the Dev team and have a few personal phone calls waiting for confirmation. I provided a list of wants and requirements and expressed *OUR* views about the dependency of the cloud. They have been pretty receptive so far but stated some elements may increase costs which they are trying to avoid because the system was intended to be low price when compared to competing products out there. I really stressed having a open API for third party Dev's and integration to other devices / services. It was also indicated the importance of having surge protection to protect the final product. And having a direct port to the water pulse output as this would help guys like me who have a GEM which records water / gas pulses which can then be recorded for historic recall later. The final piece was stressing the importance of their privacy & security policy. I stressed my information should not be sold, leased, relayed, to anyone with out my consent. I have been very impressed with both KS vendors in letting me give my $0.02 cents thus far. If those see the benefit in this project please do sign up and show your support. As that area is not my strong suite so any specific questions write them out in plain English so I can pose them. I have asked the creator to chime in and provide the details of what was said and what the future may hold. From a consumer point of view I would like to relay my thoughts and impressions with those I spoke with. They are eager, open, and willing to listen to all views and consider others. I believe they have a winning product that is literally first of its kind where it is plug and play with out the hassle of cutting any pipe. My feelings are this product will render a viable solution for those wanting to know more about their water consumption. All the while providing extra capabilities of opening / closing the main water line. For now, I look forward to our next conference call and hope the ongoing feed back will bring a first rate product that I know has huge potential for all.
