Triger scenes in ISY from ELK w/o modual

I have ISY994i ZW/IR Pro and an ELK M1. Is it possable to control scenes in the ISY from the ELK w/o the ELK module? All I want to do is triger lights when when a zone is not secure.  When I got the package (ISI and ELK) it was my understanding that I could.

Short answer, no. You can craft a network resource on ISY (if you have the network module) to control the Elk, but not the other way around. Even doing this is far from trivial.

The Elk cannot make REST calls. This would be a feature request for Elk.

 

 

The Elk module for ISY is what enables direct bi-directional communication between Elk and ISY.

 

UDI don't include it in the base package because most people don't need it. Instead they offer it as an optional module for those that want strong integration between ISY and Elk systems.

They seem to forget. Anything more than a basic ELK to ISY controller connection. Needs the optional ISY ELK Firmware module.

Honestly, I'd reach out to them. You would think the ISY would be supplied with the Elk module already enabled from the way the item is worded - if this is the kit the OP purchased.

Yes you can trigger ISY scenes from the Elk. You export the scenes from the ISY to an Elk compatible file which you can import directly into the Elk. I use scenes only instead of devices. That way I can change the devices in any particular scene without having to re-import the scenes.

On page 5 of the doc you linked (very old - by the way - dates from back before the Elk module for ISY was a separate module it seems):

 

 

 

After you installed all of the switches and scenes into the program you will need to click on the “Configuration” tab and then the M1XEP tab.

 

That M1EXP tab (now called 'Configuration / Elk / Export') is NOT available until you have activated the Elk module on ISY.

 

So yes - you can import via ElkRP - but you cannot create the export file on ISY unless you have the module.

My recollection pre dates the Elk module, but one can easily create a compatible XML file to import into the the Elk.

So, Elk can in fact control scenes and devices on ISY without the Elk module? (Assuming there is an M1XEP)? I guess it's been a while!

So after posting my questionI found my problem (typo in the access code).  Exported the configuration from the ISY and imported that into ELK.  Now I can turn lights on/off based on the status of zones on the ELK, Rules in the ELK send on/off  commands to ISY.  Now I need to figure a way to set variables in ISY and I can do what I need for now.  Agreed it would be cleaner if the ISY could "see" the status of the ELK zones.  It also looks like it is possible to restrict the ability to arm and more important disarm the ELK from the ISY.

The Elk module does let the ISY react to Elk zones. ISY tells me when every leaves home and nobody set the alarm. My phone pops an alert, asking me if I want to arm the alarm (ISY Network module, Android phone with Tasker and AutoRemote) On clicking yes, the alarm arms. ISY can read and set Elk outputs, and can set ISY variables in response to changing Elk zone violations. It's all made easy with the Elk module.

 

The integration is fantastic.
