Brultech Meters

Hello All,

This forum is dedicated to discussion on Brultech Meters and integration with ISY.

This is the latest news from Brultech vis-a-vis Ethernet enabled meters:

We should have some EtherBee adaptors ready in a couple of days, however, our shipment of wall transformers to power these will not be in until mid Jan. These are standard 5V power supplies which we can purchase locally ...

With kind regards,

Michel

Michel:

I have a deep interest interfacing between the Brultech Meters and the ISY.

I have read and re-read the Brultech web site and would like to better understand what information the ISY will be able to process and what type impact it will have in the program decision IF / THEN decision trees.

Also, what would be the ultimate package to order from Brultech to maximize my integration with the ISY. In a perfect world, I would like to be able to monitor the energy consumption of EVERY light and appliance in my house.

Hi Joe,

What is currently supported is:

1. Total utilization (since last resetting the Brultech)

2. Current utilization

3. Current voltage

4. Current current

You can use all the above in your programs.

Being able to measure each of your devices will be very expensive using Brultech. For that, I believe, you should wait for the SEP (Smart Energy Profile) version of many devices. I am not sure if INSTEON/SmartLabs is doing anything with SEP (actually, I doubt it).

With kind regards,

Michel

So in the interest of clarity can I please get the exact list of components required from BrulTech to get energy monitorng to work with ISY. This is a great feature and I would really like to make it work. In addition, where can I find an overview over the functionality the module provides in ISY.

Thanks!

Bernhard

Hi Bernhard,

Apologies for the delay.

You need the either one of the following products:

http://www.brultech.com/HomeEnergy/Status.html

The EtherBee model allows you to have the meter away from a router or ISY. The EhterPort model requires you to have the meter close to a router.

Functionality:

- See total utilization

- See current utilization

- See current voltage

- See current current

And, use any of the above, in your programs.

With kind regards,

Michel

This is currently an unsupported option, but the ECMServer software that's available on the BrulTech site, will allow an ECM-1220's or RS232 only ECM-1240's data to be visible on the network.

The ISY energy module can connect to ECMServer and receive the same data stream it would get from an EtherPort.

Of course, this requires a computer to be running 24x7 connected to the energy monitor.

Does the EP1 convert other ethernet to zigbee, or just for the Brultech. I did not purchase the 994iZ, I went with the plain unit thinking of putting the optional module in it if I wanted Zigbee (since found out most items do not interoperate with it)

Therefore I will probably put a z-wave controller in it someday.

I want to know how much power my hot water heater uses. I made a calculated gas vs. electricity payoff a few years back. Since, the utility has raised the rates substantially (love Enron), and I never planned on my daughters hour long showers!

Michel:

If you were going to buy any of the energy monitors for use with the ISY, which has the best support for you and the most likely to get the most support in the isy?

Not sure what I will do with it besides figure out some leakage and how much the clothes dryer and the hot water heater cost me at this time.

But I imagined being able to turn on a light or flash a light when the dyer gets done, things like that. or maybe put a heat and humidity sensing 1-wire into the vent and tell more accurately when the dryer is done and maybe turn it off with a 240 insteon device.

We currently have to over dry because the "normal cycle" humidity sensor thinks they are dry when they are still quite damp.

Hi arw01,

That's a very hard question since I do not use one personally. My recommendation is to decide which is more important to you: door locks or energy monitors. If door locks, then you will have to go a with our ZWave solution and thus you choice are limited to ZWave energy monitors (Aeon labs has some). If energy monitoring is more important, then you should go with Brultech.

With kind regards,

Michel

Great topic since I want to get a meter.

I find bits of info to my questions in other posts but no complete answer.

Question 1. I have an ISY994i is there an upgrade to Zigbee? If so what is the P/n and where do I buy.

Once I buy the upgrade what model ISY am I now equivalent to ISY994iZ?

Question 2. Some links above do not work.. So what Brultech models work? On the site it refers to wifi and Ethernet and also refers to zigbee (but not an option) which I assume is not one of the 2. Here is the link http://www.brultech.com/home/store/prod ... roduct=108

Hi, all.

Just popping in here to start getting up to speed on all things Brultech and ISY. I have a 994 going in soon (after being a long time user of the 99i) and one enhancement I look forward to making is the installation of a GEM. It may be a couple of months or so before actual install given competing priorities, but this is an area of great interest for me.

Too bad!

Is it possible to have more than one ISY in a unified system which operates as a single system; or if using two ISYs, would they act like two separate networks?

Alternatively is there another ISY compatible energy monitoring system that does not require Zigbee?

I want to monitor energy with ISY integration, but also need Zwave for locks, etc.

Thanks

Hi

Sorry to quote myself, but...

I created a detailed post about integrating energy monitoring/reporting with ISY, including Zwave module options/limitations and curcuit vs. plug monitoring in the Green section of the forum. It also goes into detail on interaction with a a couple of excellent monitoring/reporting sites, specifically compatible with the GEM. Below is the link, in hopes it is of interest to you.
