gduprey
Howdy, Can someone elaborate on what the difference is between a Normal and Full ZWave backup and what you gain or lose by doing one over the other? In particular, if I lost my ZWave dongle and had to replace it and then restore, would I be able to get completely back to where I am normally with a "Normal" backup or would I need to have a "Full" backup? Michel Kohanim
Hi Gerry, Please use Full as it will simply copy all the contents of the EEPROM. Normal does not and will only copy device information. With kind regards, Michel
gduprey
Thanks! I'll use full (though that seems to take longer). What is the reasoning behind providing a "Normal" and a "Full" option? Also, just as matter of "principal of least surprise", I'd think the option labelled "Normal" should be the one people use when trying to make sure they have a restorable/usable backup. Maybe rename "Full" to "Normal" and "Normal" to ???? (Light, or whatever the contents of the Normal backup are meant for). Gerry
Michel Kohanim
Hi Gerry, Good point. We shall update the Wiki and make it more clear. With kind regards, Michel
gduprey
Just an opinion - I'd change the text in the admin console too. There are two points: 1) The menu. "Normal" would be what I'm looking to use normally -- for backing up the ISY ZWave. 2) Dialog. When using the Full option, it says that it backs up stuff that doesn't need to be backed up and the whole feel of the dialog is that "unless you klnow better, you probably don't need this", but in fact, if you want to be able to restore, from has been said here, you do. In short, it would be awful for someone to do a ZWave Normal backup and then find, upon a system failure and restore, their ZWave network was lost.
