When creating a new program I frequently run into the problem of the device/scene/program/etc.. selection menu being too small (50 characters) to read the entire string. This leads to some frustrating guessing as to which (for instance) KPL button I am selecting when trying to create a new program.

 

My ISY is hyper organized, so a typical KPL scene would read like: "Inside / Family Room / Fan / FRKP-Main / FRKP - Low". When I try to select it, since an icon is shown before the name I get cut off at "... / FRKP -"; meaning I have to guess which one is Low, High, etc... 

 

Therefore,   Feature request: Please make the selection menu in the programming tab a variable length or fixed at 100 character length field.

You will find MobiLinc and other remote apps will cut the names off at the last an actual name of devices. No folder will be shown so another technique is usually used.

 

I don't use any deeper than two folders and my devices include the folder name in their names

ie.

Utility Rm/MS.lowBatt.Util,

MBR/MBR Lamp, 

MBR/MBR Lamp.auto

 

This way when the remote apps sort them alphabetically similar functions can be found on one page. I seldom would want all devices in a room to be on the same page when mobile even though I file them on ISY by room for programming and development usage.

 

When I get a text message about a low battery, I want to see all 10 MS units n one page for investigation. Similarly when something moves in my house while away I want to see all the MS programs one page. This is based on experience with false MS triggers. If somebody was in my home more MS units would be triggered and I need quick access, not time consuming page changes.

I agree. I have many Keypads where I can't see the full device label, also due to a hierarchical structure, each 'room' has a folder and each folder has two sub-folders; devices and scenes.

 

Keypads are especially notorious as each button name include the name of the Main (6-button) or A (8-button) button. Also, the ISY adds a space on both sides of the delineator, so BR/Devices/BR TabTop.A Ceiling 50/B.Sconces becomes BR / Devices / BR TabTop.A Ceiling 50 / B.Sconces (6 characters longer). In fact, other than the A button, the other seven buttons appear identical.

 

For that reason, I too, would like to widen the device window as needed.

Definitely something on the roadmap. We just have to figure out whether or not we should spend more time on Admin Console.

Thanks Michel. One more: When exporting the log to Excel it tells me if a Program, Web Request, or the System triggered an event. It doesn't say WHICH program triggered it. Is there a way to add that to the output?

Most probably not since program names are static and not loaded into memory (due to memory constraints) and ISY does not know anything about them.

Yes, generally we do have the program IDs available in the firmware (we need them for a variety of reasons), but not sure if the particular ID is available at the time of logging.  Bug report opened to investigate (0000239)
