paulw Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 You all have my attention!!! Ordered a bunch from SH before the price went up, they have to be out of their minds now! I am finding a NEJE 5 pro, and a NEJE 6 pro, both seem to have the same specs, any suggestions based on experience?

mwester Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 I do love those buttons - very, very nice. I'm going to hold off on an engraver, though. The fundamental problem that I see, at least for me, is not the engraver -- it's that the person using it needs to have some skill and artistic ability to create a nice, clear, clean, meaningful icon for the button face in the first place! And since style is not my strong point (heck, I consider it a good day when I successfully match my socks!), I'll have to wait until we get some sort of "button graphic library" created. Again, nice job on the buttons, Marcin!

Again, nice job on the buttons, Marcin! Agreed, and in the big picture I know this is something that will be purchased. But at the moment I'm going to sit this one out while I figure out how much I want to invest in this HA business. My time and finances are currently dedicated toward a full one Davis Vantage Pro 2 Plus . . . Once the above gets more hammered out and some best practices are noted I am sure this will move up the list of nice to haves.

Again, nice job on the buttons, Marcin! Maybe we can share a site like dropbox and dump in all our buttons to share with each other? I suggested this a bit ago too. If someone can help me add a way to upload them to my biz site we could use that. Im not a good html coder. I have basic skillz bit not with an upload dumping page.
stusviews Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 An internet net bot to collect and sort buttons by category--a buttbot
Scottmichaelj Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 (edited) Or do a Vector Home Automation Button search in google https://goo.gl/BNhLVX Edit: Or this: https://icon54.com/view-icons/ Edited April 9, 2016 by Scottmichaelj
elitetheatres Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 Nice links. Mine just shipped today from GearBest and arrives in 3-7 days. Can't wait. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
MWareman Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 (edited) Or do a Vector Home Automation Button search in google https://goo.gl/BNhLVX Edit: Or this: https://icon54.com/view-icons/ Bear in mind, many (most?) of these are copyright and require payment (or other terms) to use - even personally in some cases. It's certainly bad for anyone else to use an icon with copyright attached when printing buttons for others. This is one of the main difficulties with a shared repository - how do we make sure all are either free to use and redistribute, or a friendly license (like creative Commons) that requires attribution.... It took me quite a while researching icons to find an icon for my app that had a verified license allowing its reuse without any restraints. Edited April 9, 2016 by MWareman

Michael- You bring up legitimate points but for app sales it is different than this. BTW what is your app? Who here is talking about selling buttons anyway? At least I'm not. I would be happy to share my icons I like and buy personally and print them for free for anyone who also likes them as well. I would ask they send me the buttons and cover the shipping back, if I get good at it. Whats the royalty police gonna bust down your door cuz you printed a few buttons for a friend? Plus how is anyone going to know what icons were used between you and the other party? Lastly as long as your not mass producing them and selling them for profit your fine. For the repository I don't know the legal aspect here but thats normally a cease and desist letter along with asking to remove it and if you do just do it. Or put them on an anonymous account somewhere if your that paranoid. Also my second link for the icon pack specifically shows: Royalty-free, or RF, refers to the right to use copyrighted material or intellectual property without the need to pay royalties or license fees for each use or per volume sold, or some time period of use or sales. The google link is just an example of whats out there, for your personal use. No reason to get all stuffy and legal over such a small thing. I doubt Smarthome makes millions on etched button sales let alone a small forum like this. Hell this forum is smaller than the Smarthome forum! Go have a adult beverage and relax. Loosen your tie a bit. Edited April 9, 2016 by Scottmichaelj
stusviews Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 It's more economical for the etcher to buy the buttons then it is for the buyer to pay to get the buttons, pay to send the buttons to the etcher and then pay to send them back to the buyer.

By what a couple bucks? Then the "etcher" lays out the money and then etches the button, collects cash, then its a business transaction. Thats when trouble starts in Michaels scenario.
stusviews Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 Any transaction that involves the exchange of money is a business transaction, even a couple of bucks. Fair trades are excepted. There is a gray line that involves profit. And, yes, I'd like to save a couple of bucks.

My point is the savings is only a couple bucks. So with that being said does my post makes more sense now? Edited April 9, 2016 by Scottmichaelj
