JP Posted May 7, 2016 Posted May 7, 2016 For those who like to use Alexa from their smartphones, a new application was released to Apple App Store this week that allows you to do just that. The app is called Lexi and costs $5 (rounded up). You can see a demo on their website at heylexi.com. It has a couple of limitations such as not supporting Amazon Music or books but I wouldn't use them on my iPhone anyway (too large of an investment in iTunes). The application is a tap-to-use type of app that requires you to tap and hold the screen while you talk to Alexa (just like Zello and other 2-way radio type apps). This also prevents any interference with Siri and eliminates the need for a wake up word. I do not have an Amazon Echo (yet) so I have not connected anything to my ISY. I am in the process of signing up for the ISY Portal so I start using Alexa with my home automation. This allows for a cheap intro for using Alexa (again with the above stated limitations) without buying the hardware up front. JP Quote
JP Posted May 7, 2016 Author Posted May 7, 2016 Roger looks like a 2-way radio application like Zello, I don't see an Alexa connection. Am I missing something? Quote
jerlands Posted May 7, 2016 Posted May 7, 2016 Yes I haven't played with all of the features but currently only use it for Alexa control Jon... Quote
JP Posted May 7, 2016 Author Posted May 7, 2016 Do you just set up Alexa as a radio connection? Quote
jerlands Posted May 7, 2016 Posted May 7, 2016 Do you just set up Alexa as a radio connection? It's not connected to Echo but communicates directly with Alexa (cellular or wifi.) Try it.. its FREE! Jon... Quote
JP Posted May 7, 2016 Author Posted May 7, 2016 Just to make sure we are talking about the same app, I'm looking at rogertalk.com......... Quote

Yes, just download and install the app then follow the directions you see in the browser to input phone number and you'll be routed to connecting with your amazon account. Jon... Quote

tmorse305 Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 I had trouble with Roger. Frequently when giving HA commands Alexa would get stuck on OK, OK, OK, OK... until I finally killed the app. Now I use the FIRE TV app which works well for HA. The only issue is no audio feedback if you're away from the TV, but for what I usually use it for, seeing the result (the light turns on) is good enough. Quote

cyberk Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 You beat me to the post! App seems to work as described, so far, I'm able to control and/or do anything from the app that I can do from my Echo or Dot. I haven't tried playing music but I can only imagine it will play on my echo? When Amazon first announced they were open I got up Alexa and letting 3rd parties build Alexa powered devices, I was like OMG! I almost expected the iOS Alexa app to include this functionality, but it hasn't. That being said, there has to be a reason we haven't seen 3rd party devices yet, or why someone else or even Amazon, hasn't released this functionality on iOS or Android. I HOPE that neither Apple or Amazon find a way to get rid of this app. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
