Can I get Networking Module back after Portal subscription expires?

Featured Replies

Posted

I bought the networking module less than 12 months ago and I use it extensively.  Could someone please confirm my understanding of the impact of subscribing to the Portal?  Per the Wiki, if I buy the Portal service I get the fully networking module functionality, but when the Portal subscription expires the networking module will not come back.  So I will have to buy the networking module all over again in 2 years if I stop using the Portal service, even though I already bought a permanent license?

Is there an option to keep my module rights (have the module re-installed) after my portal subscription expires?  I know that UDI is offering a 1 year extension of the portal service, but can I decline that extension and still keep my Networking Module permanent license?

If you already paid for the Network Module separately, then it's your to keep.

Follow this link and scroll down to Portal:

If you already have the Networking Module you can have your subscription to the portal extended. Length of time depends on when you purchased the module.

I believe if you have your subscription extended, then your network module becomes tied to your portal subscription. Stop subscribing, it goes away.

If you don't get your subscription extended, then the network module remains yours to keep regardless of keeping the portal subscription.

I may be wrong on the first point, but that's my belief.

This is what I am trying to confirm, but reading the Wiki, this seems to be the situation.

But my math tells me Networking Module = $50 when I need to buy it again.  1 year extension of Portal (I bought N/W module July 2015) is only $25 value.  So I would rather keep my N/W module.  But I need confirmation from UDI that I can do that.

I believe that is correct and it is mentioned in the link.

Hi blueman2,

If you have purchased the Network Module, then you get to keep it forever regardless of the Portal Module. On the other hand, if you ask us to extend your Portal Subscription, then when the portal subscription expires, your Network Module goes away.

With regards to your math: you have already used Network Module for one year and thus the reduction in extension.

With kind regards,

Michel

Thanks, Michel.  That is good news for me.  I wanted to keep the N/W module and so I can!
