Cannot retrieve programs: Could no open config file to read

I have logged in to the ISY and can see the Main and Config tabs without error.

 

When I click on Programs, however, I get an Error dialog stating:

 

Error

Could no open config file to read

[/CONF/INSTENG.OPT]

 

Could not open file

[/CONF/PORTALS.PSF]

 

 

Please advise

*sigh*

 

Power supply in PLM seems to have died.  I guess my $100 has expired :)  Another one is on the way.  I will update this post if/when the PLM arrives with the results.

I have a brand new PLM and just got this message.

 

I have also had odd program behaviour since installing the new PLM.

 

Am I to understand I have a defective PLM?

Is there a way to test to see if I can restore it? 

 

Unplug both the PLM and ISY and power down, then plug in PLM then ISY?

 

Did you exactly follow the replace modem instructions?

 

 

Replace Modem (PLM)

This operation is most useful when you need to replace a defective PLM and the ISY is rebooted with a new PLM. When the communication links were established via the Link Management Menu, the PLM and INSTEON devices adds each device addresses it is linked to, in its own link table.

The ISY also reads and stores the PLM’s address at boot up. The ISY stores all the configurations settings of the lighting network. If you are replacing a PLM the ISY will have the old PLM address link stored in it.

Warning: Never replace your PLM while the ISY is running because it will assume it is still connected with the old PLM. The ISY will appear to work, but it will be writing the address of the old PLM into the device links, thus you will not see devices updates etc.

If this menu option is selected, the ISY goes through all INSTEON devices looking for old and new PLM address links. If an old PLM address link is found, it replaces them with the address of the new PLM and adds the corresponding device link to the new PLM.

To replace a PLM:

  • Unplug ISY from the power outlet
  • Unplug the PLM from ISY and power outlet
  • Connect ISY’s port A to the new PLM
  • Plug the new PLM into a power outlet
  • Plug ISY into a power outlet
  • Go to Admin Console and wait for system initialization to complete
    • If you have PRO Series, click on the Battery icon at the top. This will prevent ISY from trying to update programming on your RF devices which are probably in sleep mode
  • Click on the Restore Modem (PLM) menu option
    • In case ISY cannot communicate (or decides not to if an RF device/PRO Series) during the process, you will have a series of nodes with green 1011 icons in the device tree. For each one of those nodes:
      • If an RF device, ensure that the device is in Programming mode
      • Right mouse click | Write pending updates ...

If the above procedure fails on many of your devices, it's highly recommended that you follow the instructions for Restore Devices

I did. I also had no real good back up and had to redo everything (I own that)

I didn't mind as it let me clean up a lot of unused programs etc.

 

I noticed a few weeks ago that programs were acting odd (timers would turn a scene on but not shut it off)

ALL OFF scenes would leave a few lights on and I'd have to press the KPL button to trigger it a few more times to get it right.

 

I could add one Remotelinc 1 easily but a week later the second remotelinc wouldn't add whatsoever.

 

It occurred to me the new PLM was acting up but before I got a chance to check it I got the warning I posted above.

 

I have another PLM on the way (warranty replacement) and I will again follow the directions.

 

I have unplugged the PLM to detangle cables etc. If I unplug the PLM do I have to unplug the ISY and then Go through some series of 'plug this in first, then this' etc?

 

Or can i just plug in the new PLM and go from there?

I just tried to make a new program and it failed.

It spit out a long error message and then told me it was a Bad Request.

 

I hadn't heard that since I was Naughty Santa at the last Staff Christmas party.

If you unplug anything, the correct sequence is to power on the PLM, wait about 10 or more seconds and then power on the ISY.

So I'm getting the new PLM tomorrow. 

Although I have a back I don't trust it since it was with the faulty PLM.

 

I don't mind redoing everything again, I'm becoming a pro.

 

So to be clear, I'll unplug the PLM and the ISY from their power adaptors and network cables.

 

Then I'll plug in the ISY’s port A to the new PLM

  • Plug the new PLM into a power outlet
  •  
  • Plug ISY into a power outlet
  •  
  • Go to Admin Console and wait for system initialization to complete

Then start linking devices.

If you intend to start from scratch you may want to reset the ISY first.

The wiki is telling me not to reset but to reboot.

?

Is there a benefit to resetting?

(resetting being pushing in the pin button on the back?)

Yes, if you intend to start anew. No, if you want to save what you already have.

I think I'd like to start fresh.

I'll follow the directions for resetting the ISY

(Push the pin in)

 

So to clarify, unplug everything.

Plug in the PLM. plug in the ISY.

Plug the two together with network cables.

Reset the ISY

Begin to rediscover all devices and carry on

 

Have I missed something or messed something up?

Reset the ISY before you do anything else. Nope, read the ISY-994i Series User Guide first.

 

All Ethernet cables can be wired in advance. Plug in the PLM after verifying that the circuit is clean. Wait 10 or more seconds and power up in the ISY. The ISY can be plugged in virtually anywhere that is convenient. All signals are transmitted and received via the Ethernet cables. The power supply for the ISY further isolates it from the power line.

I just plugged my PLM in in the exact order that was marked out.

I reset the ISY but now am getting the same error messages.

 

PLM Info/Status 000.0V Not connected

 

I can't 'Start Linking" (nothing pops up)

 

Do I Restore Modem?

 

Please help.

This is the second brand new PLM this month.

It can't be dead.

 

There must be something else.

I just switch out the cable. Still the same result

 

I'm hoping I didn't buy another PLM when I didn't have to.

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated

As an aside I don't have the option to Automatically upgrade ISY under Help.

Cant seem to manually upgrade it either.

Not too common but we have seen DOA or very short in time use 2413S PLM failures reported.

So...

I got Amazon.ca to return the first PLM which was out of their return window but they were gracious 

enough to do so.

 

I'm going to return the second either today or monday.

 

Before I do, we're positive I'm being sent bad PLMs, correct?

Is the green led on the PLM lit when it's plugged in?
