Venstar - T7900 what do I get on the ISY?

I have installed v5.0.7 on the ISY and the NodeLink on my Raspberry pi 3.

I am considering buying the Venstar Colortouch T7900 thermostat which is one of the NodeLink supported devices. However, I am trying to understand the concept of the virtual device within the ISY... (the sticky states "NodeLink is a Node Server which creates nodes (virtual devices) within the ISY.").

What would I ultimately see when I go to the Admin Console of the ISY? Will it look like an Insteon thermostat included on the Main tab with my other devices?

Will I be able to include commands for the T7900 Virtual device into programs?

Will Mobilinc present the thermostat like it does for Insteon thermostats?

(perhaps this should be in the V5.0 Forum section... but it's related to using NodeLink)

It will look just any other Insteon device.

You will get almost every parameter that is on the T7900, except no schedule stuff and no calibration or usually installation setting.

You will be able to control everything you see.

When you run the NodeLink setup webpage there is a button to click to install the ISY device but you have to have the NodeLink server hooked into ISY first.

Thanks. That is what I had hoped I would get. That is very helpful and convinces me that I should get the thermostat.

I'm guessing that you don't use MobiLinc...

I use MobiLinc Pro for Android.

I control my stats online via Skyport, Venstar's cloud service.

Paul and I each have a bunch of programs to do stat tweaking on these. I compensate for extreme weather by jumping the temp up 0.5C and run two programs to do

Intelligent Recovery as well as Intelligent Setback timing, something I have never seen on a thermostat anywhere. It all takes V5 to manipulate the readings arithmetically and store them back into the stat.

Ok... I use the MobiLinc Pro for IOS, which I use extensively for controlling my ISY. I'm hoping to avoid using another app (Skyport).

Larry is right. The Venstar NodeLink provided thermostat devices do not show on mobilinc or any other mobile app. I know io_guy worked to present the venstar to the ISY as a thermostat device, but did not get it recognized as one.

If I look at HAD, which would be the ~ equivalent of a mobile app, I see 2 on off devices for each thermostat... one for the thermostat node and one for the runtimes node. Neither does anything. Like Larry, automation in the background via ISY, the stats' built in humidity controls plus monitoring have been more important to me than remote control.

Things that do work outside of skyport:

  • Tie Home/Away to a keypad key via a program, and that would present fine. I also have a wireless remotelinc that my wife can use for up/down and fan. She prefers the skyport mobile app.

  • Geofencing is accomplished by IFTTT Maker calls to the ISY to control Home/Away

  • The Alexa integration is as far along as other mfgs and was the first thing I added to my Dot. You can verbally turn the stat "up" or "down", or set to a particular temp.... which is what the API currently supports

Nodelink also provides a runtime node for each thermostat with stage 1 & 2 daily runtimes and fan number of running days.

I have the Skyport app but do not use it. It lacks similarity and functions from the website.

I use the website pages on my android phone and I like it better, matching my home usage of it on the larger screens. I just need a URL link and login.

Yep great point. The venstar.skyportcloud.com site provides access to a lot (but not all) of the management capabilities of the stat. The app does not, its basic remote control features.
