Wireless switch compatibility

Hello world,

I'll be owning an ISY994i ZW very soon but my concern is the wireless switches I have. I have a few Insteon dimmers which will work but also have a lot of Sonoff smart switches which have an ESP8266 board. These wifi switches are connected to my home wifi and I can flash them with third party firmware to have them connected to other home automation solutions. But has anyone ever used one with ISY? I can controll then through IFTTT though, so maybe configure in ISY like an IFTTT device or something?

If the ISY won't be able to controll these cheap wifi switches then it's really gonna boil down to "using the insteon dimmers as dimmers and nothing else" or "controlling the wifi switches through their own app", the latter will require me to purchase the ISY anyway and the first I will be able to use a lot of different free home automation solutions (web-based)

Any help appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the UDI forums!

Are you able to send simple REST commands to control the Sonoff switches? If yes, then you can add the ISY Network Module to your. It transmits outbound network messages in different formats. It would take a little bit of experimenting, but if you know the format of the Sonoff network messages (eg something like REST) that should work.

Personally I would swap out the switches and go with something that would allow full integration with the ISY. While you can use ifttt or REST, not having feedback the way a fully supported device does handicap your system exponentially.

If you truly must use those switches I'd go with Paul and use REST commands. While you could use IFTTT, delays in it could make the experience less enjoyable. Heaven forbid the internet goes down for some reason. REST would be a better choice for that reason. However the time spent programming them and the effect once again makes for a less than pleasant experience.

Thanx for the feedback. It's not really a MUST to use the wifi switches with ISY but I do have a bunch of them installed already and they have a little mobile app where you can configure them (timers, scenes dusk/dawn ect) and it does show the current state of the device (switch). I don't mind keeping that AS-IS and go with the more professionally integrated devices, but it would be nice if ALL my switches could be  controllable by ISY too.

I'm not really familiar yet with REST commands (but I'll do my research) so I can't comment on that yet. I'm not at home at the moment so I can't really test that until wednesday when I get home (some time left for research then  :-) )

The nice thing about these switches is the ability to reprogram them. This means local control and feedback.

YES, hence my initial question if anyone ever configured one of these to work with ISY.....

I've read that with reprogrammed firmware it can be connected to other home automation solutions like Samsung Smarttings, homeassistant etc so I was hoping that someone might already have a firmware ready to be flashed onto these switches to be compatible with ISY

I've just started looking at these devices (another thread in "coffee shop").  Take a look at the Tasmota firmware ( That looks like the most interesting alternative firmware and works with MQTT which is a common HA comms protocol.  I haven't yet really looked at integration with ISY but it should certainly be possible via an MQTT broker.
