ergodic Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 Having trouble getting SMTP to work on my ISY99. I have tried - variously: my ISPs mail server (smtp.west.cox.net) port 25, no auth and my cox email my company's mail server with auth on port 25 and 366 "Use default" A UDI gmail login I found on the forum The email address I have in there is my cox email (recipient and sender), and I did click "Save" so the recipient address is definitely in there (it's the only one). No matter what I set though after a few seconds I get "Request Failed". Every once in a while it doesn't give that error, but no test message ever comes through. I have Outlook running on PCs on the LAN with the same SMTP settings so I'm pretty sure they're right. And I've pretty much run dry on ideas. Is there any logging or other way to see what's going on? If I have to I can put a network sniffer on the segment but that's a really painful way to go.

Please do be kind enough to check your log (Tools | Log) and copy/paste all errors starting with -5000x . If you haven't yet, please try upgrading to 2.7.2. Are you sure the email address to which the notifications are sent is a valid address? ergodic Posted March 24, 2009 Author Posted March 24, 2009 I've installed 2.7.2 and it had no effect. The email address is valid - it is my 'cox.net' email which is the ISP serving the house the ISY is in. I have the same settings in an Outlook email account which is working. I tried a different SMTP configuration through my business mail server (using SMTP AUTH) and listing my business email address as both the FROM and TO. I tried the outbound SMTP server both by name and IP address, and on both port 25 and an alternate port (3666). I clicked SAVE on everything before testing. I did not see any attempts whatsoever to connect in the mail server logs at all each time I clicked TEST so something is getting hosed early on for sure. The error in the log for this configuration is -14 when I click on TEST. Also, I discovered with this config. if I highlight the (one) email address in the list before clicking TEST then I don't get the error, but there still are no connects in the smtp server's log nor any test email being sent. Is highlighting the email address necessary for clicking TEST? It doesn't help in the original config - I get the "Invalid Request" error anyway.

This particular account only supports IMAP, not POP, for mail retrieval but I assume that isn't an issue since the ISY is only sending mail?
