io_guy Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 https://shop.homeseer.com/products/homeseer-hs-wd200-z-wave-plus-scene-capable-rgb-wall-dimmer Coming in Jan, 200 series switch and dimmers. Programmable status LEDs and multi-tap up to 5. Also a 200 series 4 speed fan controller coming in April.
lilyoyo1 Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 I like the color changing LEDs. That's one thing I wish/hope insteon does in the near future
asbril Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 I like the color changing LEDs. That's one thing I wish/hour insteon does in the near future The color changing led's, indicating the status of another device, seems very interesting, but will it work on ISY ???
lilyoyo1 Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 The color changing led's, indicating the status of another device, seems very interesting, but will it work on ISY ??? Very true. If its simply changing parameters I don't see why not. Maybe via programs. I'd want it only for basic changes such as an emergency flashing the lights red.
stusviews Posted January 1, 2018 Posted January 1, 2018 Looks nice, but "Supports instant status when controlled locally," is problematic for programming based on the status of the dimmer.
mwester Posted January 1, 2018 Posted January 1, 2018 Looks nice, but "Supports instant status when controlled locally," is problematic for programming based on the status of the dimmer. How so? That's basically exactly how the Insteon switches and dimmers work -- they only send a status report when locally controlled as well. (I'm sorta bummed that they STILL don't have this in light almond color... perhaps I need to break out the plastic spray paint...)
MWareman Posted January 1, 2018 Posted January 1, 2018 Maybe there will finally be an alternative for the Fanlinc....

If the status of an Insteon device is changed remotely, then a program can detect it.
G W Posted January 1, 2018 Posted January 1, 2018 Not so. If the status of an Insteon device is changed remotely, then a program can detect it.Tell me exactly how that can happen outside of the ISY.
lilyoyo1 Posted January 1, 2018 Posted January 1, 2018 I see Stusviews point as I have a few programs that are based off the status of certain switches. The problem with local only is that should your software turn it on (such as with an app) there will not be any update to any programs that are ran based off it's status
mwester Posted January 1, 2018 Posted January 1, 2018 I'm confused now. Let's try a few use-cases: 1a) User turns ON an Insteon switchlinc by pressing its paddle. 1b) User turns ON a HomeSeer Z-Wave switch by pressing its paddle. Courtesy of "Instant Status", I think we can all agree that the effect is the same for both of the above, right? The ISY will be instantly alerted that the paddle was depressed, and will take the appropriate action (run a program, execute a 5.x scene, etc.) Does anyone disagree with my assessment of the behavior here? 2a) User turns ON an Insteon switchlinc by running a program on the ISY that directly turns the device ON. 2b) User turns ON a HomeSeer Z-Wave switch by running a program on the ISY that directly turns the device ON. In this case, if a program running on the ISY causes the device to turn on, I would expect that the result would be the same -- the ISY should know that the device is now in an ON state. Neither Insteon nor Z-Wave will send a "I just turned ON" message (i.e. "Instant Status") because by definition that is not how it works (we've discussed why this is the case frequently for new users who wonder why ISY programs won't trigger on "Control" when a scene is turned on). Does anyone have evidence that Z-Wave and Insteon behave differently in this use-case? Does this involve "Instant Status" at all? 3a) User turns ON an Insteon switchlinc by running a program on the ISY that turns a scene containing said switch ON. 3b) User turns ON a HomeSeer Z-Wave switch by running a program on the ISY that turns a scene containing said switch ON. I maintain that this situation is exactly the same as 2a and 2b, above. Perhaps the ISY does not do this with 5.0.11B -- but if so, I'd argue that it's a bug. Does anyone have evidence that 5.0.11B doesn't work this way? Anyone believe differently in terms of the expected outcome for this use case? 4a) User turns ON an Insteon switchlinc by sending an ON message from some other source than the ISY (a hub perhaps). 4b) User turns ON a HomeSeer Z-Wave switch by sending an ON message from some other source than the ISY (perhaps another z-wave controller). This gets interesting. In the case of Insteon, I know what happens -- the ISY is blissfully unaware of that change in state of the switchlinc (been there, done that, fixed it!). In the case of Z-Wave, I do not expect that the device will proactively send an "Instant Status" message to the ISY -- but I may be wrong. I also expect that the only way the device will respond to the other source for Z-Wave is if that other source is a secondary controller -- in which case, perhaps there's something in the protocol where the primary controller (the ISY) will "listen in" or will be notified. So I anticipate that in the Z-Wave case (4b), the ISY will respond exactly as it does in the Insteon case (4a) -- specifically it won't respond in any way because it's completely unaware of the fact that something changed on the device. However, I admit to uncertainty regarding the Z-Wave secondary controller - perhaps the ISY actually *will* detect this one. My conclusions -- with Instant Status, there is no situation where the ISY's idea of that device status at any point in time is different between Z-Wave and Insteon. And if there is a difference (which is remotely possible), it would be that the ISY's idea of device status for Z-Wave would be more accurate in the case of another controller on the network. So, perhaps Stusviews and those agreeing with him can clarify the points? I think this is important -- and I'm concerned that I'm missing something in the argument and discussion. What is it?
larryllix Posted January 1, 2018 Posted January 1, 2018 In a light switch/dimmer.... Status detects the state of the dimmer electronics no matter what changed it. Look in your ISY logs for status updates. Switched detects the state of the paddle. ISY logs do not record this as it is not a status change. Look in the events. It is two separate devices logically.

You haven't addressed the use cases above -- I'm aware of the status vs events thing, now what I need is for someone to explain how that's different with the HomeSeer device and how it affects the 4 use-cases I've outlined (and if there are other use cases that I'm not thinking of, that'd be useful as well). I'm well into installing z-wave devices, and if there's something important I've overlooked, I need to to know it!

stusviews Posted January 1, 2018 Posted January 1, 2018 mwester, Your post indicates that you are using v.5+. I'm still at v4, so I can't comment on how Z-Wave devices work with v.5+. In particular, with v.4+, which most users have installed, Z-Wave devices don't work as scene controllers nor can can Status be used as a program trigger for most Z-Wave device. Control can be a program trigger.

stusviews Posted January 2, 2018 Posted January 2, 2018 Comfort is not my criterion. I have too many programs that matter a lot. And a wife the lets me know when something doesn't behave as expected or even desired (that's good, it's something I need to know). I jump in and often have tested both Alpha and Beta computer software and hardware and, especially Insteon hardware, some of which never made it to market. Don't ask, I signed a privacy agreement.
Bumbershoot Posted January 27, 2018 Posted January 27, 2018 I got a notice this afternoon that this dimmer is now available. I've got one on order, so we'll see how the ISY handles it. Bumbershoot Posted January 27, 2018 Posted January 27, 2018 If only they had that in light almond... I'm hoping my Insteon switchlincs stay working until they get a light almond version. I'm going to put this one in my office where it won't be visible. The almond is a kit, not a switch production run (or so it seems), so no reason there won't be a light almond one. Specifications Compatible with US Z-Wave networks (908 MHz) 120 VAC, 60Hz 600 watt incandescent 150 watt LED / CFL Supports Z-Wave Plus features Supports Z-Wave S2 security cUL, FCC, Z-Wave Plus certified Color: White. Bumbershoot Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 I got my new HS-WD200+ in the mail yesterday, and I installed it this morning. It reports three nodes in the AC (see screenshots). Below is "Show All" output into the Event Viewer. I don't see support in the ISY for the status reporting in the "Controller Indicator Color" feature. Beyond that, it works as an on-off, but setting it to a brightness level < 100 causes significant flickering of the load on what appears to be Insteon traffic, and there's no discernable dimming of the load. I don't understand it, but I'll fiddle with it more. Bumbershoot Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 What firmware version are you running? When it comes to flickering, I would isolate the switch and bulb (hook it up to a pigtail and see how it dims that particular bulb to ensure its insteon traffic and not something else I'm on 5.0.11C. The bulbs are same Feit LEDs from Costco that I have all over the house. I've never seen this problem with them, though this is the only Z-Wave dimmer I've installed. I'll fiddle with it more next week, if I can get out of jury duty.
