PLM issues

Recommended Posts

Hello, brand new to using this setup. Was using Houselinc before.

I must be missing something super simple but having trouble getting started.

When I go into PLM info/ status I get 0.0.0 not connected.

I have a static IP but have made no changes in configuration except for checking UPnp. (made no difference).

Do I have a bad PLM or did I miss something? why are they not communicating?

Having a static IP do I need to manually change those settings?

Thanks, guys,  it's probably something really simple I overlooked.

Verify the part number on the back of your PLM.

If you can. Also post the information on the stickers on the back. Like hardware version and date code.

Sounds like you have the older 2412S model PLM.

It supplies power tho the ISY994i through the network style serial power.

Unless Smarthome has changed things. The 2413S never had power on the serial connector to run an ISY994i.

I suppose they could have installed the F1 fuse on the serial daughter board but with the power supply issues in a 2413S. I would not expect it to power anything more than the PLM.

So if you have the serial port connector on the PLM connected to the serial port jack on the ISY994i

You connect the PLM to the AC outlet first. So it can initialize. The ISY994i also powers up with out its own wall wart plugged in.

It sounds like it is getting power from the 2413S PLM.

That does not sound correct. My V2.3 4616 does not power up my ISY994i.

Yes the green LED on the side should be ON.

I suspect the PLM has issues as power should not be coming out the serial jack on the PLM.

As a test only. If you power up the PLM alone with no cable on it. Does the LED now light?

Also the latest 2413S PLM we have seen reported. Is a V2.4 from Amazon.

You are the second user reporting a V2.3 recently bought from Amazon.

To confirm yes the ISY powers up the second I plug the PLM into AC power or when I connect the cat5 cable from the PLM to the ISY.

The LED on the PLM never lights up. The only time it does is when I try to reset it and that is kind of funky as well.

If I hold the button down on the PLM and plug it into AC power, the LED glows bright white and does not turn off until I release the button. (I have tried this at least twenty times).

It's looking as if the PLM is bad, should I exchange it through Amazon or go through Insteon?

Just to be crystal clear there is no other power source connected to the ISY Series Controller?!?! Simple test unplug everything attached to the ISY Series Controller except that CAT5e cable which is directly attached to the 2413S PLM.

Obviously with the 2413S PLM not plugged in the controller will be dark and unpowered.

Now, if you plug in the 2413S PLM into a 120 VAC outlet *This powers up the ISY Series Controller* ?!?!

no the white one goes to my network. The blue one connects the plm and the ISY.

I would stop immediately and return this product via Amazon. Assuming you didn't get a great deal on the 2413S PLM please consider buying the 2413S PLM direct from Smarthome.

As this ensures you get the latest hardware which is revision 2.4

Thank you

No worries.

Moving forward for the benefit of others if and when you receive the new 2413S PLM would you please let us know the production date and hardware revision on the back of the sticker. Once its connected to the ISY Series Controller would you also indicate what the controller indicates is the firmware in use.

You have three choices to add the RL2 remote:

- Start Linking (2 whirling colored arrows) : Select the start linking button and follow the prompts by holding down the set button until the RL2 blinks green. Press finish to complete the enrollment process.

- New Insteon (Light Bulb Icon) : Enter the Insteon address ensuring you use a period / dot (.) between the alpha numeric values. Enter a friendly name to denote the RL2 remote in the second entry line. Leave the device type as *Auto Discovery* in the third line. Press and hold the RL2 until it blinks green and press OK in the Admin Console.

If that doesn't work use the drop down menu and select the RL2 of choice ensuring you place the RL2 in programming mode.

- Link Management: Link a Remote Linc -> Select the RL2 of choice ensuring the RL2 is in programming mode.

NOTE: In all cases bring the RL2 next to the 2413S PLM or any dual band hardwired device. If none of the above works follow the full users manual to hard reset the device to a factory state and try one of the four options listed up above.

I'm not sure why I thought this was a remote linc ~ ignore what I wrote above!
