Insteon Device vampire power consumption?

I have about 80+ insteon devices currently installed and often wonder how much vampire power is constantly being drawn by the devices?   I would think it would add up to be a surprising amount.

Older Insteon hardware consumed 0.9 ~ 1.5 watts depending hardware. Newer switches consume 0.4 ~ 0.64 watts at idle depending upon hardware version. So, back in the day if you were rocking the single band Insteon hardware it would be approx 75 ~ 83 watts at idle.

Added up (for larger installs) its probably alot. However, the energy used by them is more than worth the energy saved by lights being turned off in empty rooms instead of being left on.

Is there any ways to decrease this leak out? Just curious.?

No. The devices are always powered so they will draw energy.

The way I see it, if I left my kitchen can lights on (8 bulbs) all day, that's 72 watts an HR. It's cheaper to use less than a watt an HR all day than leaving those bulbs in longer than they have to be.

In a sense, I'm spending a little money to save much more than I would otherwise

Nobody tries to turn off WiFi devices, like mobile phones, or iPads at night when we are sleeping.

That little energy is the cost of doing business, and it results in double usage to heat your home, in the winter climates.

Hi all,

Does anyone have data on z-wave devices and vampire power consumption? We switched to z-wave for a vacation property and are thinking of putting in solar with battery, so vampire loads matter in those calcs. Thanks.

That's going to be determined by the individual mfg. that you are using.
