asbril Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 Interesting article in today's New York Times. https://nyti.ms/2A3ROIt
Scottmichaelj Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 While I understand his point of view, I don’t want more government control and especially by old people who have no understanding how things work. Look at the Facebook hearing! ??♂️ I don’t want lobbyists pushing their own agendas and look at the circus with net neutrality.

We must find a compromise between government control and no privacy controls. That is not easy but we can afford neither Big Brother or the Wild West.

Then again what is middle? Depends on the persons views I guess. #DeepThoughts #TryingToStayOnTopic #NoPoliticsOnTheUDIForum #WeHaveAllBeenWarnedBefore
Michel Kohanim Posted October 11, 2018 Posted October 11, 2018 @Scottmichaelj, You are very close to #3strikes ! With kind regards, Michel
apostolakisl Posted October 11, 2018 Posted October 11, 2018 I love, the "ice machine, find me a dog sitter, oh, and make me some ice". But seriously, we need rules of engagement. In other words, there needs to be standards of disclosure regarding how private your relationship is with the company that is getting info on you. It seems that there are rules in place already since they all seem to have a disclosure, but it could probably be better standardized into a readable document, right now it is a bunch of fine print buried in the website. I like how your cell phone makes you click through individual permissions. I do find it a little disturbing how the "kids" these days seem to not give a rats a$$ about privacy, at least a lot of them. Though my own teenage kids don't seem to have any desire what so ever to publish anything about themselves to the internet, so that is good.

Good luck with that! #Lawyers Rule of thumb, free = your paying with your info. Also lets be honest, Grandma and Grandpa have know idea what they are clicking. Nor do kids. larryllix Posted February 28, 2019 Posted February 28, 2019 Thanks. I read about this a few years back and I can see WiFi is doomed.

I don't know about its impact on HA, but (after a few years) we will have internet practically everywhere and at great speeds. It may be as much change as moving from roof top TV antenna to Cable....

Yes. That is why posted think that WiFi will be replaced by 5G in homes. We should see 5G routers happening some time now that 5G is being approved. The speeds are incredible.. Maybe I was too brief.

paulbates Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 5G is coming, but has its problems. Outside of regulatory and tariff issues with manufacturing chips, the range and penetration of those frequencies is not far. Just installing 5g equipment in existing cell towers and distributed antenna systems won't be enough to reach everybody. Its an urban solution. If you're in a city, you'll probably be good, but I don't see how this technology helps already hard to cover rural areas. https://www.lightreading.com/mobile/5g/high-band-5g-lets-address-the-range-question-shall-we/a/d-id/731293
Michel Kohanim Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 @asbril, Very nice article … I agree with all of his points especially integration and security. With kind regards, Michel

MWareman Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 Paul, you are right but I assume that for a long while 4G will remain operational until 5G coverage is universal. True. It’s also the case that LTE coverage sucked in the early stages of deployment....And 3G is still around as well (if you are patient).
