Text Messages Not Being Sent

Wondering if anyone has experienced their text messages not being sent.  I recently replaced my PLM and i still have the same number of links today that I had a month ago.  We have Verizon cell phone service.

Everything was working correctly until yesterday.  My wife and I get text messages when either of us come home and the garage door is opened.  But these messages are not coming through to either of our phones.  I have an Iphone and she has an android phone.  The ISY also sends an email duplicating the text message.  For the most part I have been receiving those emails although I did notice that a few were missed today.

When I perform a test of the cell phone text  in the ISY to both of our cell phones, the test system messages come through fine.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.  Note the PLM that I installed a month ago was updated with new capacitors.  i have it control lights, and I have not seen any issues with lights not turning on or off.

As I said, these text messages have been working fine for the last three years.  No changes have been made to any of the programs.  I am running the latest version of 4.7.3 with both Firmware and UI the same version.  I have a 994i Pro system.  I installed new batteries in the open/close sensors last month and I get heart beat notification from each of the sensors every morning.

Thanks.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Sometimes Insteon devices need updating after a PLM replacement.

Assuming your garage door is monitored by an iolinc, I would

  • right click on it in the admin console
  • select "Restore device"
  • Let if finish, test again.

I’m was having issues where my 10pm “garage door open/close” text wasn’t showing up for hours. It always at 10pm, but for the past 2-3 weeks maybe 10, maybe 2am, etc.

I put on a noon “hey, it’s noon” text and everything has been working fine since.

I’m sure there’s zero relation, but maybe the process sending texts was having issues.

Thanks to everyone who provided suggestions for my issue.  I looked in the error log and found the following errors recorded at the time I should have received text messages.  Unfortunately, I don't understand what they mean.  But after looking at other times in the error log, this was the only time where I could find where I was not receiving text message and getting any errors.  So I concluded that these errors are not related to my issue of not receiving text messages.

I am using open and close battery sensors pasted on the garage doors and not using iolinc, so I could not try Paul's suggestion.

So I took a look at how I configured the system to where I was sending email and text messages.  I am using google to do that.  I was thinking maybe it was centurylink and the issue was with them.

What I did not mention in my original post was I also get text messages if someone comes onto the deck or porch when we are gone.  Those were not working either.  Those sensors are both x10 motion detectors and an insteon motion detector.

Finally, I took a look at my programs and not finding anything wrong, I just forced a save of the file.  Now everything appears to be working fine.  I am probably like Kissfan in that I also don't have an explanation why things started working again.  Things have been working fine since Monday, so I hope whatever this issue was, it is fixed.

Again, thanks to all.

If you replaced your PLM, then you do need to put each sensor (and any other wireless device) in linking mode during the PLM upgrade. Do the sensors have the little 01010 icons next to them in the admin console?

Even if you did put these in linking mode after replacing the PLM, sometimes is has to be done again.

The original symptoms you described still can be explained with this as the root cause.

Thanks Paul.  Although I don't have any of the 01010 icons next to them, I will put them back into linking mode again.  I will feel better since I have never had this happen after three PLM replacements.  We have become dependent on the Text messages and not being sure they are working gives me some stress.

Thanks for your help.

I am having the same problem as Big Moose except that I have not replaced my PLM. Test notifications work as programmed 100% of the time but an actual line of code that turns a switch on under a specified condition (verified that the action completes) followed by a line of code that should send a notification fails. It used to send with no errors.

Wished I could tell you how I fixed the issue i had.  My text messages just started working again.  Thinking it may have been a cell phone vendor issue.

I don't even have a PLM as I'm all z-wave, and my Verizon messages (emails from ISY to my Verizon number) weren't sending for a few days (basically Th-Sun of this past week). I thought it was my ISP as they were having issues, but looks like it may have been on the receiving end. Good to know. Thanks.

Hello everyone,

The reason is that outlook/msn/hotmail had banned us. The reason: the pattern seems to indicate a spammer. It took us one week to explain to them that, of course, the pattern is different. They are coming from 10s of thousands of different ISYs, with different triggers. It was a nightmare. Alas, it seems that they had forgotten to include this scenario in their spam protection algorithms. This happens every few months. So, if you are still using the default, I strongly suggest making a dummy gmail account and use that instead.

With kind regards,
Michel
