Debugging how a program is getting started...

I have a towel heater program that is basically the following:

    -Between these times (3 hours), turn on the towel heater and disable the program "Towel heater Alexa"; otherwise enable the program "Towel heater Alexa".

The "Towel heater Alexa" is basically the following:

   If nothing

  then

   set towel heater on, wait an hour, set towel heater off

   else

   set towel heater off

The problem is that the towel heater is coming on at random times.  It was on at 3:00 am this morning, for instance.

I have an ISY 994i using 5.0.14.

I looked through the log, and the log does not have an entry for this morning, except to indicate the towel heater turned on at the normal time. I then took a look through the log and the towel heater came on at Sunday evening and then went off, for an on time of 4 hours, which is not in any of my programs. And there's this one, at a random time at night:

Is there a way to determine why the towel heater is coming on?  Say, for the ISY to keep a debugging set of info?  For instance, the entry above does not say why the towel heater was turned on.

If you don't see Program in the column before last, then this device is being turned on/off AT THE DEVICE. i.e. System = response from the device, Program = ISY Program, Web = web client. I see neither program nor web. So, it's not ISY turning it on/off. Perhaps  a ghost?

Thanks, Michel.  The way this is situated, we're using a box-type Insteon on/off module that plugs into a GFCI outlet and is behind the towels and the towel heater.  It's possible to reach the on/off buttons on the on/off module, but it's difficult.  And to do this at 12:37 am (in the middle of the night) is an anomaly (you wouldn't touch the towel heater, let alone get to the module).  (And then to turn it off less than an hour later...how is that possible?)

I'll put something over the box-type module to prevent the buttons from being hit to see what happens. 

I've been wanting to replace the GFCI outlet with an Insteon outlet, but then I have to change the breaker for this circuit to be GFCI, and I haven't had time to do this.

Hi Michel,

I don't think what you said is true in my case.  Here's one for instance:

This HAD to be started by Alexa, as I have it programmed so that if you say "Alexa, turn on towel heater", the towel heater runs for one hour.  This is the same time my daughter normally takes a shower on Sundays.  If this were accidentally hit, there's no way you turn it on and then turn it off exactly one hour later.  That's not possible. 

There also is not a single instance of "web" anywhere. There are also no instances of "program" anywhere.  All there is is "System". 

Is there something wrong with my system, in that the log does not say "web" or "program"? To get this, I went to tools, then log, then excel.

I'm not sure how this is relevant, but here they are:

The Towel Heater at 16291 is started by Alexa, and the Towel Heater at 16314 is stopped by my program, even though they both say "System".  Again, I cannot find "web" or "program" anywhere in this file, which has 70,566 entries.

Hi Michel,

Sorry for my delay in responding.  I have multiple things I'm trying to do at once. This is becoming problematic, though, as I found the towel warmer on the other day, looked at the log, determined when the towel warmer came on, and my wife said no one was home at that time.  I also got up early this morning (to take my mother for a surgery), and my daughter's fish tank light was on when it shouldn't be, and she's at sleep-away camp.  Both of these are plug in modules (on/off), so maybe that's it?

I'll get the latest log and send it.

I would disable the errant devices in the ISY for now, factory reset them and leave them alone for a few days. This will allow you to determine if your signals are coming from the isy or something else. 

Once you're satisfied that it's not something else, you can restore them back to the ISY. If it happens again after they are part of the ISY, then you can either remove move it completely and rebuild your programs with it or go through your programs 1 by one (even the ones you don't think it's part of)
