mvgossman Posted November 23, 2019 Posted November 23, 2019 I've been using my Venstar T1800 Thermostat with my ISY994 for years and with the MobiLinc Pro app on the iPhone, worked fine previously. It suddenly stopped working, I could see the temperature only, could control things only intermittently from the Administrator Console or App intermittently, and not at all eventually. I tried everything including disconnected the Venstar from the network via the Administrator Console and re-installing it, and wouldn't work. I thought I might have a bad thermostat so I purchased a new Insteon 2441TH and installed it today. I got it to discover the device on the network initially but with the exclamation points by the thermostat, and multiple efforts failed. Now I can't even get it to recognize it. I'm running firmware 4.5.1 and UI 4.7.3, not sure if this is pertinent. I also get the SSL Certificate error, not sure if this is pertinent to this issue either but I'd like to get rid of that anyway. I reset the ISY994 and reset the entire house's power, no improvement I certainly have RF capable devices in the vicinity, not sure what to do next! Help! Mitch _ouldnt_be.added .xclamation _ew_Insteon.Device SSL Certificate
Bumbershoot Posted November 23, 2019 Posted November 23, 2019 First thing, make sure you firmware and UI versions are the same. Using the ISY Launcher solves this issue, and using the correct version may solve your issue.
mvgossman Posted November 23, 2019 Author Posted November 23, 2019 Thanks, I am always reluctant to rock the boat with software updates lest a bug crop up. It always worked until recently and I didn’t change a thing so it’s strange.
lilyoyo1 Posted November 23, 2019 Posted November 23, 2019 It's not strange. Your UI and firmware are different. That can cause issues like the one you're experiencing. Clear your Java cache. Either upgrade to 4.7.3 (preferred method) or use the correct launcher for your firmware
mvgossman Posted November 23, 2019 Author Posted November 23, 2019 I FOUND THE PROBLEM - I think... If you read all this to the end I'll be impressed and grateful. There's one persistent issue noted at the bottom. First, I tried the following: 1. I updated the ISY to 4.7.3 2. I had four #2443 Access Points, I disconnected them and reinstalled them confirming on opposite phases. I have two others, but I discovered that they were dead, so I left them unplugged. 3. I unplugged and plugged in the #2412 PowerLinc Modem 4. I tried installing the thermostat but selecting the specific device type (2441TH) rather than Auto Discover. These efforts did nothing. I attempted to install the thermostat again and repeatedly get errors, see attached. After multiple attempts I can get the thermostat to appear, but first it says "writing" next to the three devices and then remaining with the green indicators which I believe mean that there are updates pending to be written? I was able to intermittently control the thermostat with the Console but not with the MobilLinc app on the iPhone. I could change the temp on the thermostat and it changes on the Console. I could change it on the Console and it immediately changes on the thermostat. But only very intermittently, with the explanation points coming on and an error saying. Later on, I could all of a sudden alter the temp on the Mobilinc and all was well. I had the sense that this was a communication problem with the thermostat. I was trying the computer and app in the physical vicinity of the thermostat so I could watch its response, and it seemed that t would work most of the time when I stood there, and it would work not at all when standing elsewhere! I felt this was a sign that it must be an RF communication problem, so I disconnected the access points, started over, put one in the vicinity of the thermostat. The second access point placement on the main floor only found outlets on the same phase so I went upstairs, right above the other one downstairs, plugged it in and it was dead, would not light up when it had worked before. I realized that it was plugged into an outlet where the lower plug is switched and the upper one is always hot. One of my kids had unplugged the access point to charge something I suppose, plugged it into the switched outlet. It works perfectly now. Evidently I removed a perfectly good Venstar T1800. I'll be making that an unstitched dual outlet since we don't switch lights with it at all. HOWEVER... I still have those green arrows with the "1011" inside them, and selecting "Write Updates to Device" doesn't make them go away. What do I do about them? I could uninstall the thermostat and start over, but I'm afraid to because it works. Mitch Cannot communicate exclamation points Finally installed but doesn't work and still need to write updates Initializing System New Device Errors Writing thermostat finally
mvgossman Posted November 23, 2019 Author Posted November 23, 2019 And I just trie one more "write updates to device" and it looks normal now. I wonder why they didn't work before? Seems the RF communication can be a fickle thing. No known interference sources, nothing new anyway. Update completed for thermostat
lilyoyo1 Posted November 23, 2019 Posted November 23, 2019 Did you clear your Java cache after updating?

lilyoyo1 Posted November 23, 2019 Posted November 23, 2019 Put the thermostat into linking mode and choose restore device
Chuckster Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 Kids these days! This thread raises a related question for me. Hope it's OK to ask in the context of this conversation. You mention "access points." I have been researching the idea of upgrading to an ISY and getting rid of Insteon hubs. It occurred to me that my three 2441TH tstats do not connect the PL, but to 24VAC. And I read elsewhere they are RF only. I was wondering, how does the ISY talk to RF-only Insteon devices? I think you answered my question? 902/924 Mhz access points that plug into the PL? Nice.

Dual band devices retransmit rf as both styles.Sent using Tapatalk
