Do refurbished devices have a warranty?

Dear UD,

I searched the forum but did not see an answer to my questions, if they have already been addressed I appologize for reposting. I am considering a ISY99i/IR and though I typically prefer new items, I was drawn to the $100 price difference between new and refurbished. Before I do anything however I would like to know what I'm getting if I order a refurbished one.

Do they have any kind of warranty, if so what is it?

What are some of the typical problems seen with devices that you are able to resell as refurbished?

How often do you have refurbished devices returned (i.e. it broke again)?

If you can answer these questions for me it would greatly help in my decision making process.

Thanks,

This is a great question, and one I was actually come here to ask tonight. I'm helping my mom set up a home lighting network (my mom is the biggest electronics geek I know), and I've recommended an ISY for her system. She, too, is attracted by the $100 price difference. I know UD is basically unparalled in its support, but the warranty question is still valid. Even $199 plus the cost of a new PLM is serious for my mother, who was recently widowed and is watching her $$. Thanks, guys!

Refurbished units carry the same 1 year parts and labor warranty and 30 day return policy that new units do.

I can't say on the type of failure units experience or the frequency that refurbished units fail compared to new - perhaps Michel can answer that.

Thanks

Some refurbished units may have been returned during the 30 day trial. Some have cosmetic defects. Sometimes it's due to a bad PLM and the retailer exchanges the package, so the ISY may be perfect, but it cannot be sold as new again.

I haven't heard of any more refurbs being defective than new units, but as Mike says, Michel would know better.
