A partially frozen RemoteLinc

Hi,

In my network, I have a RemoteLinc configured for managing 5 scenes and a serie of programs. The A-button is re-used by programs which, depending of the actual status of 2 different scenes, will do different things. All other buttons are standard controllers for a specific scene.

The C and D button stopped working properly while all the others were fine. I did a restore on the D and it came back to normal. The problem is the C that is "frozen" at 3% and does not control anything and can not be restored.

After many tries, I successfully removed it as a controller for its scene. It took me even more tries before putting it back as a controller. Now, no matter if I use the C-On ; C-Off ; All-On ; All-Off ; Dim or Bright, the status for the C in the ISY is always 3% and no lights in that C-scene react to any of the commands.

A, B, E and F never failed and keep working, just as D does now that it has been restored from the ISY.

Any idea what can I do to un-freeze that C-button ?

Thanks for your help,

Hi Jacques,

The time it takes to put a button into a scene depends on the number of controllers/responders in the scene.

This said, however, I have had at least 8 cases with same type of symptoms (one of the buttons do not work on RL) and there were two issues:

1. Access Points

2. The RemoteLinc itself

Have you tried factory resetting your RL and do a restore?

With kind regards,

Michel

Hi,

thanks for the suggestion. The button is not frozen any more, but is just more chaotic now...

When I hold the On or Off, one of my light, not associated with the previous scene, now dim or bright with the Remote-C control. If this light answers the DIM and Bright, it does not answer neither the On nor Off from that same button.

I did a restore on the device, without success. So, here is more details :

The old scene has 2 responder, one dimmer and the main load of a 6 button Kpl.

It has another controller, which is the B-button of an 8-button Kpl.

After the reset, the main load of the 8-button Kpl dims and brights with the Remote-C, but does not turn On of Off with it.

The All-On or All-Of does activate the main load of the 8-button Kpl because it is part of 2 other scenes controlled by the E and F function on the RemoteLinc.

I did a reset of the C-Button on the RemoteLinc, a restore of the main load of the 8-Button Kpl as well as a restore of its button B, the controller of the old scene. The result remains the same : the RemoteC does not control what it should and what is affected by it does not react as expected.

Any other idea ?

Hi Jacques,

At the moment I have no choice but to think it's the RL itself.

Would you be kind enough to do me a favor? Please try the Compare feature (Show Device Link Table) on your RL as well as the device that responds to RL but it's should not and let me know what you find. It's very important to make sure that ISY is in synch with your devices. If this test returns missing/extra records (and since restore has failed), then I would strongly suspect the RL itself.

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, this non-working C-Button on my RemoteLinc is not my worst problem anymore...

That very same KPL just turned even more weird : it answers properly all requests sent by the ISY or any Insteon control and turns its load On and Off. But should the Insteon command be from another button of that very same KPL, the A-Button turns On, but the load does not!!!

It stopped to dim or bright with the RemoteLinc.

I did a factory reset of that KPL and a restore of its A, B, E and F buttons. The E and F are those trying to activate a scene containing the local load. The scene properly turns On, the A-Button turns On, but not the load. For now, I made a quick fix with the ISY : should the E or F button be used, the ISY turns On that load.

I wonder what can have mess up that much with my setup... A plan to factory reset everything and re-program from scratch!

Hi Jacques,

Wow, very strange. May I humbly ask whether or not you have set the on level for those sub-buttons for the load? The newer KPLs allow you to control the load on level via any of the buttons. To test, you might want to move the on level slider (within the scene) for the sub-buttons just a little to the left or a little to the right.

And, please do not start from scratch. Most problems can be solved without this drastic measure and, in most cases, starting from scratch does not help much (especially if the problems are isolated to one or two devices).

With kind regards,

Michel

Hi,

Yes, I did check the On Level. I already searched for hours a few time because of an On Level reset to 0 for no reason. This time, I checked it after just few minutes and it is at 100%.

Or should I say, some of them was at 100% !!!!!

They are so many On Level settings, I just found one this morning that WAS at 0 : the one associated with the controller inside the scene. The On Level of the device and of the scene were right at 100%, but not the one at the controller.

Thanks for reminding me about that On Level bug.

I will be working back on the RemoteLinc later this week and give you the result after that.

Jacques
